As believers, we often do a lot of introspection, and that is great -- it is absolutely necessary. But in doing so, we find ourselves to be so faulty -- and understanding our faultiness, too, is good! That is called honesty. But this thread is not about that. You may not be perfect (I know I certainly am not!), but I want to read about the good things you taught your children -- the things that stuck, the things you see them doing. Let's not get into genes -- not stuff like great big brown eyes or being tall! -- but: * Let's write about what you taught them that they now demonstrate. * If you can reason it out, tell us what caused that wonderful trait to stick. * You can add what your spouse did that also influenced your child(ren) Let's bless G-d for His goodness in establishhing your teaching in your child(ren).

I see that my oldest child (almost 20) prizes truth. My husband and I have always prized the truth no matter if it was pleasant or not. My daughter seems to have a resilience about facing the truth of a matter. She is also not afraid to discuss hard issues and hang in to get an answer to them.

What brought this on. I guess it is mainly that really, I am so proud of my adult children. They are both believers who married believers and are rearing their children to be believers. That is what G-d did, completely, because the fact is that I reared them in a cult. Praise G-d, He got us all out of that, and they are serving Him in freedom! But when my son called this morning to tell me a story about what happened yesterday when he gave blood, I wondered at that. I actively gave blood until I became ill. Gallons and gallons. And my son would not do it. He had type 0+, so I really wanted him to do it and would have signed for him to do so when he was 16 (legal age for that here, with a parent's signature). But he wouldn't. I rarely brought it up but just kept giving. Now, he goes in and gives every time he can. I am so proud of him! And my daughter -- before she learned that she had cancer, she worked to get a bunch of people in her office to grow their hair out, to give to those who make wigs for cancer victims. I am so proud of her! Okay, now it's time for you to toot your horn!

My son is a marine. I have no idea where that came from...complete shock when he told us that is what he wanted to do. Mostly, I am pretty passive and like to read and was somewhat smart in school and my son is like that. I don't know why he did the marine thing. I will also say, I stayed home for three years and like to cook and clean and my son...well, they had award ceremonies at his middle school and each student that had the best grade for each subject was awarded...and what subject did my nerd son do best in? Home ec.

Home ec. My dad's dearest friend of almost 50 years was a stay-at-home dad, and he was a pretty cool guy. I couldn't imagine my dad doing something like that, but he respected his friend, and understood that was his choice and never demeaned that choice. I respected him too. BTW, this man started doing this in the early 50s, and his daughter left home in the late 60s.

Your son probably did that because quote:
ORIGINAL: SonInMe1 I ... like to read and was somewhat smart in school and my son is like that.

In my opinion, honesty is the best quality one can pass on to a child. It sure smooths out a lot of otherwise rough roads, even before one comes to them.

Obviously, this applies to both a daughter and mother as well.
