Ok, I have a question..With still being new in my christianity, I read alot of the post and questions about not everyone going to heaven and I still get confused because of so many different opinions and answers.
My question is this, since I am saved and I am a christian, what will happen to me if I do
not witness to others or talk to others about becoming christians. Will I go to hell if I do not
ever witness to anyone? I know it is not your works but faith that will get you to heaven or
that is what I constantly hear and read.. I mean I do talk about the Lord to people, and I
talk alot with my parents (who are christians), and of course I talk about God at church, BUT
does that count? If the people I speak with are already christians, is that still witnessing??
I want to be able to do something wonderful for someone before I leave this earth, not because I want to be rewarded, but because I care, I love to help people, I have been through so much,
and I want to be able to help someone who is hurting, or who may need my help. I do things from the heart..
Will God still accept me into heaven?????

Any advice would be great...thank you!

God will lead people to you to witness to. You..have to recognise when someone is to be witnessed too...and you must understand there are more forms of a witness than talking about Jesus to someone who does not know Him.

Your walk, how you live your life, is the greatest witness...in many ways. Never deny Christ before men and walk like Christ did and you will have a powerful witness.

Understand who Jesus is, what your relationship with Jesus is, and you will be better suited to talk about Jesus to others.

As a new christian, you will come to know that we grow into our walks and for most, I think, we learn more and more all the time. Time, will also help you in your witnes...time to know more about Jesus to tell people more about Him.

The Bible says, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." Jesus said that. He is the only way to get to heaven. if you have asked Him into your heart, you are going to heaven.

But when you have Jesus in your life, you should REALLY spread his word. I know it's scary, I know you think, "What would people think of me?". But God told us that what he tells us in the dark, for us to yell it on the rooftops. So if Jesus told you He loves you, what should you do? Tell others!

I know it's so hard. I mean, I've been ashamed so many times because I was a Christian. But Jesus ALSO told us that the world will hate US, just like the world hated Him. So we're going to be persecuted.

But please, I'm telling you. We were created so we could be here for a purpose. God wants you to minister to others. You don't have to PREACH it to people. But show them God's love. If you see someone hurting, go to them and ask what they need. If you see someone hungry, go out and buy something for them. Do actions that Jesus would want you to do. Reach out to people. And maybe ask if they know Jesus.

But I urge you, go and preach His word. It's our duties as Christians. But are you going to hell if you don't? Def not. But you wouldn't be a living sacrifice. God wants that. When you die, he wants for you to have lived your life for Him. When you haven't really done anything, you would be offering up your body as nothing. God wants you to be a living sacrifice. If you have a myspace, you can add me! If you ever need to talk, I'll be there :)

If I can be so bold- the more important question here is 'what will happen to THEM' if you don't share? They will die into a Christless eternity.

Though I have never heard 'not witnessing' as a reason for someone not getting into heaven, you could easily become lazy in your faith (the less you talk about something, the less it stays at the forefront of your mind, and it can get dropped down the priority list), and you will miss the VERY COOL blessing of seeing someone come into His kingdom. Those are the immediate effects I can think of...

You'ld be surprised at how much talking about your faith can help another believer- it can encourage them, challenge them, or make them think- all important in keeping faith strong... it's not 'witnessing' per se, but certainly NOT a waste of time!

I underlined the part I think is the coolest in your post

Nothing will happen to you if you don't witness or talk to anybody about Jesus Christ. You won't go to Hell or lose your salvation. You were seated in the heavenlies the moment you accepted Christ as your Savior! There is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). You will only have missed out on an opportunity for God to use you to share the Gospel with others. But, that missed opportunity doesn't mean that you are accountable for the individual you failed to witness to. Whether or not that person comes to faith in Christ is between them and God. They are not going to be able to use your encounter as an excuse should they not accept Christ by faith.

However, as a new Christian, I would encourage you to first get familiar with who you are as a Christian. In other words, you should do a study on your identity in Christ. Once you realize all that you have received through faith in Jesus Christ you will begin to want to share that with others. The result will be that you will recognize when the Holy Spirit is leading you to share what you know with those you encounter as you go through life. If you would like some suggestions on study material, PM me and I will point you in the right direction.

Grace and Peace

Thank you so much for your prayers and responses. It definitely helps me. I can't tell you how much I have changed over these last few months, weeks, down to days..I really have. Every little thing that happens in my life now, really makes me think and focus on the Lord.
I want to talk about God to anyone, anywhere, I personally do not care who doesn't like me because I am a christian. At least I know I will be in heaven with the most awesome God! Most people who don't like christians, must be jealous of those who have such joy in their hearts, (just my opinion)
Nobody can get me to heaven, noone can do it for me, it is my faith, my trust and my love for the lord and if they don't like me because I am a christian, that shows me they are missing out on everything in life including the wonderful feelings I have for the Lord. I will do my part and talk to others about the Lord, I will talk to all about the Lord.....

Thank you friends for the prayers and the advice too....I can always count on you all!!

Nothing. Maybe next time you'll be more prepared to witness. And God will lead someone else to witness to that person; his salvation does not depend on *you*.

I know it is not your works but faith that will get you to heaven or

You are not under bondage of any kind, including the bondage to witness to people.

quote:

I want to be able to do something wonderful for someone before I leave this earth, not because I want to be rewarded, but because I care, I love to help people, I have been through so much, and I want to be able to help someone who is hurting, or who may need my help. I do things from the heart..

Don't worry about it. When it is right for you to speak, you will.

quote:

Will God still accept me into heaven?????

Of course. Your name is written in the Lamb's Book of Life. That's your ticket. Jesus already did all the work.

"Witnessing" can be just another good deed, and Scripture says our righteous deeds are as filthy garments. There is none righteous, no, not one. I think you might need to get over yourself :-) Just love the Lord, study His Word, and be prepared to give an answer to any who asks you.

One final thing: Satan is the accuser of the brethren. It is he who makes you feel all guilty because you're not "witnessing." However, greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. There is no condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus. Let that guilt go.

Wow--AWESOME! I am so glad that you have found God. Don't ever put him up as a bad guy. Many Christians make him seem tooo scary and they don't even focus on His love. God loves you SO much! This is the scripture that I was talking about. "What I say to you in the dark, tell in the light; and what you hear whispered in the ear, proclaim upond the housetops!"
Matthew 10:27 [The Message]

"I've loved you the way My Father has loved Me. Make yourselves at home in My love."

-John 15:9 (The Message)

Not all of us are evangelists. But if we know Jesus and His life is being lived in us and through us, we will make Him known to those we come into contact with. We don't have to choose to do this. It will happen.

I like the story of the child who was told that when he gave his life to Jesus, that Jesus would come live inside of him. The child exclaimed, "But won't He be sticking out all over?!?"

Absolutely. If He's in you, He is sticking out all over. Bless ya!

What happens to me if I don't witness to someone?

Many people think that they have to evangelize or people will go to hell. Others think that if they fail to be witnessing all the time, they will be penalized. Many of these types of views are spread by religious leaders who are attempting to build up membership in their churches by using tactics of guilt and manipulation. Others mean well, but do not understand Biblical principals.

The "great commision" was given to the eleven disciples prior to Pentecost. Jesus came to offer the kingdom to Israel. His disciples were to rule the nation of Israel and the nation was to evangelize the earth. Even the signs and wonders of Pentecost did not convince the nation of Israel to turn to Jesus. Paul writes that gentiles were given salvation to provoke the Jews to jealousy and thus turn to Jesus, but this did not happen either.

Some Christians are given a gift of evangelism. Timothy had this gift and Paul instructs him not to ignore it. However, in the new testament Christians are rebuked and exhorted for a number of things, but no one is rebuked for not being "out there wining souls". Paul does ask for prayer that his evangelism would be effective and that his message would be clear. Peter instructs those who are about to go through suffering to be ready to give a reason to others who ask how they are able to endure.

Too many Christians approach evangelism by the power of the flesh with all the desperation and frustration of a Jehovahs Witness trying to earn a spot in heaven. If The Lord brings an opportunity across your path, you should be walking close enough to the Lord to be able to recognize it and He will give you the ability to respond.

If God calls you to work in evangelism you should recognize it as well. If you want to understand what happens when a person adamantly refuses to heed God's call, read the book of Jonah. Jonah was willing to kill himself so that the Assyrians would not be saved. After three days in the fish, Jonah figured out that God was not going to let him die, so he reluctantly agreed to do God's will.

I guess that would depend on God's definition of works; Jesus said this;

(Luk 6:46) And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

So if we want to ligitimately call Him Lord and claim salvation we should be about doing what He said to do.

Thanks

1st of all, HI & welcome to the spiritual family of Christ.

-
Luke 23:1-43 (NIV)
1 Then the whole assembly rose and led him off to Pilate. 2 And they began to accuse him, saying, "We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Christ, a king." 3 So Pilate asked Jesus, "Are you the king of the Jews?" "Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied. 4 Then Pilate announced to the chief priests and the crowd, "I find no basis for a charge against this man." 5 But they insisted, "He stirs up the people all over Judea by his teaching. He started in Galilee and has come all the way here." 6 On hearing this, Pilate asked if the man was a Galilean. 7 When he learned that Jesus was under Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time. 8 When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased, because for a long time he had been wanting to see him. From what he had heard about him, he hoped to see him perform some miracle. 9 He plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer. 10 The chief priests and the teachers of the law were standing there, vehemently accusing him. 11 Then Herod and his soldiers ridiculed and mocked him. Dressing him in an elegant robe, they sent him back to Pilate. 12 That day Herod and Pilate became friends--before this they had been enemies.

13 Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers and the people, 14 and said to them, "You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges against him. 15 Neither has Herod, for he sent him back to us; as you can see, he has done nothing to deserve death. 16 Therefore, I will punish him and then release him." 18 With one voice they cried out, "Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!" 19 (Barabbas had been thrown into prison for an insurrection in the city, and for murder.) 20 Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate appealed to them again. 21 But they kept shouting, "Crucify him! Crucify him!" 22 For the third time he spoke to them: "Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him punished and then release him." 23 But with loud shouts they insistently demanded that he be crucified, and their shouts prevailed. 24 So Pilate decided to grant their demand. 25 He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for, and surrendered Jesus to their will.

26 As they led him away, they seized Simon from Cyrene, who was on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus. 27 A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed for him. 28 Jesus turned and said to them, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children. 29 For the time will come when you will say, 'Blessed are the barren women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!' 30 Then "'they will say to the mountains, "Fall on us!" and to the hills, "Cover us!'" 31 For if men do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?"

32 Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed. 33 When they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucified him, along with the criminals--one on his right, the other on his left. 34 Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." And they divided up his clothes by casting lots. 35 The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, "He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, the Chosen One." 36 The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar 37 and said, "If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself." 38 There was a written notice above him, which read: ~this is the king of the jews. 39 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: "Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself and us!" 40 But the other criminal rebuked him. "Don't you fear God," he said, "since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong." 42 Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." 43 Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."

I once read:
Witness, speak if you have to.
Actions speak louder than words.

I remember when I became a Christian which is not that long ago. I had a friend who would wear a Jesus button on his coat. I asked him why he wore it and he said that it was a way of inducing fellowship with other Christians. I started to wear one as well. When it comes to conversating about Christ I try to be honest and I use life experiences to make my point.
