...Lawrence Welk with a parent or grandparent? I was running up and down the channels this evening, and stumbled across a re-run of an old, OLD (black and white) Lawrence Welk, and memories flooded back of me and my grandma. Great times, for sure!!!

Anyone else watch it growing up - whether you wanted to or not?

In our house Lawrence Welk meant one thing, a dreaded visit from my mother's Aunt Lida. Who made us eat our peas!!

I remember watching Lawrence Welk with my grandmother.
She would have her feet up on the foot rest of the recliner, toes just a dancin' to the music.
Wonderful memories.

I watched it when I was a kid because I liked it. I couldn't wait to see Bobby and Cissy dance.

But then I remember Bobby from the reruns of the Mickey Mouse Club in the early 60s too.

Not only had to watch the TV show but my Dad would play his LP records on the weekends -- Lawrence Welk and Ray Conniff singers all weekend long.

Used to? What's with this used to phrasing? Of course we still watch Lawrence Welk! Our kids love it, so we watch it every once in a while.

Plus, our son has a record player from the 30's and he plays very very old records on it. Son and husband have a radio station and they play only music from the 20's and 30's. So funny!

I remember watching Lawrence Welk with my parents.

Funny story about my husband's grandmother--when Lawrence Welk died, she quit watching the show. "He's dead," she'd say.

My husband's parents were on the show once as dancers on the dance floor.

"Awonderful, awonderful!!!"

Oh that's so cool, Cranky!

I used to watch it a lot when I was younger . . . and I loved it!

CS (my late husband) and I also watched it faithfully every Saturday night.
I don't watch it any longer, though.

Did she make you stay at the table til all your peas were eaten? And sit there with you to make sure you didn't sneak them into the garbage?

I wasn't real crazy about it when I was little, but as I got older I appreciated it. I enjoy watching reruns when I get a chance. When my son was a baby, I used to sing the closing song to him. He loved it! kd

I grew up watching Lawrence Welk. I wanted to be Janet and was in love with Bobbie.
Fortunately my area still shows reruns.

My grandparents used to watch but don't anymore, even though our local PBS stations shows them (like that B&W classic previously mentioned) on Saturday at 7. I watch some of it but honestly I have trouble not finding something different to watch / do about a half hour into it.

Old TV shows interest me: I enjoy those variety shows, it helps me get to know what my grandparents enjoyed and its a historical treasure.

And he seemed to be such a grand man. I haven't heard a bad word about him. Maybe he was a little tough on the performers but that's why the show was so good.

The Lawrence Welk Show was the only proof I ever had that an accordion could actually be played well.

I agree! Myron and occasionally the maestro himself sure could make the ol' squeeze box sound good!

I wonder what they'd say if they decided to air original Welk Reunion events from Jon Fredricks' Welk Resorts Branson once in a while to see what has happened.

Fredricks is the grandson who is in charge of the Welk Resorts that Lawrence started in the 1960's, and I think the Welks have made successful investments. I wonder why Lawrence Welk Jr (who heads the Welk Group) doesn't decide to work it out so viewers can see the stars of today at the family theatre in Branson.

I used to have to watch that with my parents. It was like being stuck in elevator hell. I knew God was real when they cancelled that. Used to have to watch hee-haw too. It took a lot of years and the love of Christ to put my life back together

PBS does air Welk specials (usually during pledge week) feturing former stars from the show in current performances, relatively speaking. I think they're called "Precious Memories" but don't quote me on that. Not sure how close that is to what you're speaking of.

Hee Hee Hee. I have a renewed appreciation for "Welkian" music but I can still relate.

Hee Haw is simply garbage.

I'm kidding, I'm kidding.

I really was kidding about Hee Haw. I barely even remember it to be honest. Sha Na Na (or is it Shanana) was another show of that ilk, I only remember Bowser and those low notes.
