I asked this question a few months back. You here of the age of accountability and no one knew why exactly they believed it. We found one passage of scripture that supported that children go to heaven and that is 2 Samuel 12:21 Then his servants said to him, “What is this that you have done? You fasted and wept for the child while he was alive, but when the child died, you arose and ate food.” 22 And he said, “While the child was alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who can tell whether the LORD will be gracious to me, that the child may live?’ 23 But now he is dead; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.” Well the other day I was doing my daily reading and came upon this verse that to might support that children go to heaven. Deuteronomy 1:39 ‘Moreover your little ones and your children, who you say will be victims, who today have no knowledge of good and evil, they shall go in there; to them I will give it, and they shall possess it. A little background for people who aren't familiar with what is going on at this time. The Israelites were promised a land flowing with milk and honey. Well to sum it up they kept complaining and sinning against God. So God told those that were living at that time would not live to see this land except for Joshua, Caleb and the Children. Their descendants would see, but not them. Well we see here that God did not hold the children accountable for this. If you look back at the tree that Adam and Eve ate from was called the tree of "knowledge of good and evil". So when Adam and Eve gained knowledge of good and evil it separated them from God. Well if the Children do not have the knowledge of good and evil are they separated from God? This might not be right, but this is something that I found and I was wondering everyones thoughts on it. I might be completely off the mark here.

Actually, I believe babies go to heaven because of John 16: 8,9: And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me A baby hasn't had a chance to believe or reject Christ. This is a pretty weak argument, I acknowledge, but I haven't seen anything else to counter it.

A baby hasn't had a chance to believe or reject Christ. That's the same reason I believe babies DON'T automatically go to heaven. I don't think there is any age loophole. But I do believe that all babies and all those who have never had a chance to accept Christ will one day be resurrected and given that chance.

I believe that children as well as babies go to Heaven. Jesus stated that one must become as a child in order to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. I think that's at least one of the significances of the Biblical "born again". Children have no problem with belief. They automatically flocked (accepted) Jesus. Only a few adults accepted Jesus at that time. The rest viewed him as merely a carpenter, etc.

The passages in Deut and 2 Sam are speaking about children under the covenant of Moses which is only with those who are Israelites by birth and covers someone from birth. As gentile believers, we have a covenant that is an "opt in," IOW we have to CHOOSE to be a part of it. According to Rom 11 we are grafted into the cultivated tree (salvation) which means we are born on the wild tree (which is lost) and have to be removed and grafted. As to the infant children of gentile believers, there is nothing in scripture to define their status.

From a predestination stand point then you already have the answer. God chooses whom He chooses. I believe the age of accountability comes from jewish traditions...but I am not sure about that.

Matthew 18:6 as well as some other versus in chapter 18 seem to indicate a unique relationship with children, perhaps in general. 18:6 warns of causing a child who believes in Him to sin.

Psalm 51:5 "I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me." Proverbs 20:11 "Even a Child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right." Psalms 58:3-5 "The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies. Their poison is like the poison of a serpent: they are like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear; Which will not hearken to the voice of charmers, charming never so wisely." 1st Corinthians 7:14 "For the Unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the Husband: else were your children unclean, but now are they Holy."
