I would (if I were married and had a baby girl), but I know a lot of people wouldn't. Why or why not? Personally, I think it is cute, but some people feel it should be the child's decision.

I wouldn't. I just don't see the point in doing it when they're a baby. When Akeelah is old enough and she wants to do it then I will take her.

No... for the same reason Lexie gave. Also, I personally don't like the look of earrings on a baby. ETA: To me, it just seems wrong somehow to shoot holes in an infant's ears for the purpose of physical adornment when they aren't old enough to give their consent.

No for the reasons already given. I waited until mine were old enough to ask and understand what would happen. I have three daughters and two of them had to take their earrings out because they constantly got infected. My middle daughter had them repierced at a later date and she still had trouble with them. So only one daughter has her ears pierced.

I didn't pierce my Dd's ears. I had my done when I was almost 9 and I really wasn't responsible to take care of my ears or earrings. I felt that 12 would be a better age for that. So my Dd will be 12 this summer and if she truly wants to (which right now, she does), she'll have her ears pierced

We had our dd's ears pierced when she was 6 months old. Why? We figured that it would be far less traumatic to get them done at such a young age than when she was older and requested them (I still remember the trauma of getting it done when I was 6 and really REALLY wanted it ... I actually ended up passing out afterwards from the shock) Might be faulty reasoning, but those were our thoughts back in 2001 ....

Yep...totally! We had all of our dd's ears pierced when they were a month old. I had mine done at that age also. My grandma pierced our ears...except for my youngest...I did hers. Just like Karaboo said, it is less tramatic when they are younger and easier to take care of when they are babies. It's no biggie really.

Yes. In fact, I did. One dd hardly ever wears earrings now; the other does. *That's* where the choice comes in.

Mine were pierced when I was two years old. Don't remember a thing about it, and I'm happy it's that way In my mind, it's like I was born with pierced ears since they have always been that way for as far back as I can remember. My younger sister's were done at an even younger age since mine went so well. I think she was like 1.5 years maybe. I don't think I would pierce a young baby's ears, but I wouldn't have a problem with a toddler. A baby wouldn't be able to understand the reason for the pain, and I would feel terrible about that. A toddler would have some kind of semblance of understanding about what is going to happen and why. I would love to get my dd's ears pierced as a toddler, but I don't think DH will go for it. He grew up in a no earrings family, and wants to wait until dd is "older". To him it's a thing for women because that's how he grew up. For me it's not, because I grew up thinking pierced ears were the norm.

Yup, we had DD's done when she was 2 months old, about the same age I was when mine were done.

would and did for both of our daughters, though the second we had to let grow in when she was bout 9mo because of an infection. She is now 3yo and I want to get them done again before she is old enough to remember the pain. If we have another girl we will get it done ASAP.....our first and second were done about 10 days old...right after they went to the dr and had a vit k shot

I had mine done when I was very young (under 1 year old). It is sort of nice because my holes have never closed up- my ears just grew that way. I've gone without earrings for years at a time and could still get them in when I wanted to. I should start wearing them again, except I'm too afraid of getting them yanked out.

We are expecting a girl in June and are NOT going make that choice for her. I had mine done when I asked around 6 or 7. I wanted them, I sat and had them done. End of story. Now as an adult I don't wear earrings, I guess I grew out of it? I haven't in years and thats going to zero from a total of 8 among the two ears. I'm glad my mom let me choose if I wanted it or not. I think with ours we will wait until she's older than I was and she understands the care needed and if she truly wants it done vs friends having it done. I just cannot, at this point, think of making that decision for her.

Absolutely not...why would I cause my child pain for my pleasure...and I don't think that I have the right to make a piercing decision for my child. Many years ago (when my adult son was in elementary school) we were at the mall and a toddler was getting her ears pierced. They put the little dots on her ears and she was happy...then they shot the earing in and the screams were heartbreaking. My ds stopped and tried to go back to confront the people for hurting the baby. It took a lot of explaining to calm him down...he couldn't understand why anyone would do that to a baby. He was heartbroken.

I didn't for two reasons. 1) I kept it as a sort of "right of passage" celebration thing for when she started menstruating. 2) I wanted her to have some self-expression options when she hit the teenage years. I was hoping that if she waited to get the first hole in her ears. It would be a year or two before she wanted the second hole and, ultimately, she'd be 18 and more mature before she thought about piercing her nose, tongue and belly-button and getting tatoos.

When we finally had a girl after two boys, I had a lot of friends who asked if I was going to pierce her ears. I said "no" and I'm glad I did. I figured there was enough to keep clean than to add worrying about her ears. I'm really glad I didn't get them pierced as a baby because I finally convinced her to get them done when she was 8 years old. We had a terrible time with them and finally had to let them close up because her left ear kept getting infected. She's 10 years old now and says she never wants her ears pierced.
