Thought I'd share w/ ya'll a story out of Alabama. There's a gas station owner that's tired of drive offs. So, he's come up w/ a way to stop it. He put signs on the pumps that say if you don't pay, you will be shot at. The signs have been up about six months & he hasn't had a single drive off since. Seems to be real effective! kd

What part of AL is the station in? I'm guessing Briarfield. :)

wow at my store the parking lot is where you have to worry about your car.people actually cut the tank to steal the gas. what a shame...

Why doesn't he lock the pumps so that the customer has to pay first? Seems to make more sense and be less trouble.
We've had a marked increase in people stealing gas from other people's cars including cutting off or puncturing the gas tank. Wal-mart parking lots tend to be a favorite place for all sorts of criminal activity, including gas theft. After having this happen to her twice, my cousin decided to fix someone stealing gas and put a gas can filled with old kerosene in the back of her truck. Trying to run a car on kerosene will result in totally ruining the engine. Her next trip she put a gas can with water and corn syrup in it and went and stood over by a shade tree some distance but in sight of her truck. Sure enough, some guys pulled in next to her, saw the gas can, emptied it into their own gas tank, and went into the store. She waited until they came out, started their car, and tried to drive off. The car stalled out at the light. I pointed out that this was basically entrapment and her response was "I didn't make them reach in the back of my truck and put that **** in their tank. Thieves get what they deserve."
I just don't think I'd go that far...

Does it depend on the type of pumps? Do very old gas stations have the capability of doing that? Not that I know this is the case here, but there is the possibility he doesn't have that option.

How on earth was that entrapment? I mean seriously, the guys didn't have to steal the gas can out of her truck. I wouldn't have, I'm sure you wouldn't have. So it is their fault, and quite frankly I think it was a wonderful idea on her part. It makes me smile to know those guys did get what they deserve!

If it's entrapment, then I guess they won't go to jail. Still doesn't get them a new engine, though.
And I would absolutely go that far.

Well... I hope he is absolutely sure before he starts shooting.
We had a woman at our local station who was always accusing people of stealing gas. Once she asked my dh (who just filled our tank) "Are you going to pay for that gas you got yesterday?"
He hadn't even been there the day before! If he had, why did he need to fill up again?
She doesn't work there any more, so I think she was just a little... uh... off.

I'm assuming that the gas station is in rural Macon County & a lot of the stations there still have old pumps. kd
