I was thinking about this at work last night, and it came up in another thread today (job title). Simple question really- what do you do for a living? It is possible to answer that in a word or two, but REALLY what do you do? Do you have a single task you do all day, or is it varied? I am a housekeeper. Yes, I clean. But I also buff and wax floors (for the GT folks, last night I added pusher to my list of night jobs), take care of resident requests, watch for/deal with hazards, fire watch, translate for non english speaking residents, serve meals for special functions, do laundry, etc. My 'title' doesn't actually describe my job... does yours?

My job title has not changed in twenty years and I do not expect it to change. My Job title is Servant of the Most High God.

Im currently on leave from my job as RN in a NICU where i get the best task in the world IMO. I get to love, care for, snuggle, feed, comfort, sometimes cause pain , monitor health, babies who should be snuggled under their mothers heart for another 16 weeks or less. On the other side I consider it a great honour and awe aspiring that I get to see what many do not have the privelege of seeing - that most wonderful creation of unborn babies and how they develop. But today my job is taking care of my 4 year old adopted son - a much harder task than my 'paid' job Joyce

I am the "media coordinator" for a small denomination's world missions department. My team creates the resources (print, Web, video, etc) needed to promote missions (eg, raise funds, recruit teams & missionaries, spread prayer needs, etc) within the denomination. To that end, I wear many hats, as I'm the lead graphic designer, author\editor, and video producer for the department. It is fun and rewarding, but stressful. But for someone who always wanted to serve in a support capacity alongside missionaries, it's a dream come true.

I'm currently a poor, unemployed, grad student . First time ever being unemployed since I started working as a teenager about 20 years ago. This is definitely not fun, but I've got a roof over my head and I'm not starving - God is blessing me financially in many unexpected ways - so He is keeping me during this time. Before this stint, I was a technical writer for about 10 years. Then I was a multimedia designer/web designer/web developer and also created training and marketing materials (I liked this a lot better than tech writing) for software products for a few more years. Now, I'm retooling to strengthen the more creative sides of my work - so that my job description will be: creates and edits written and multimedia material that is informative, entertaining, and inspirational. Right now, I'm also trying to add some skills to make myself more marketable as a writer - like copywriting, grant writing, while beefing up my editing skills. I also want to develop a lot more video expertise (I really love editing a lot and want to add some cinematography skills and sharpen up script writing) over the next 12 months. HOWEVER ... I've recently done something I've always wanted to do, which is audition to be a professional, paid performer (singing, dancing, and acting). Thus far, I've made it through the initial audition, the callback, and the HR interview. I will find out in a couple weeks if I've been selected (I pray that I will be). If so, then I'll still write of course - as it is my calling, but I'll be able to add performer to the job description.

I spend taxpayer's money. Not on me, of course. That's the simpliest way to describe what I do.

My official title right now is a messenger, however I also copy, enter things into the computer using a program called Printer's Plan. I also punch, bind things, take phone calls, do ordering, inventorying, sometimes cleaning, etc. I am also going to be doing some research for new contacts for my boss in the near future as well. That is my day job anyway.

Isn't this interesting? I like seeing what everyone does. We have a lot of variety here on CW! Me? I save the world through Modern Algebra...one inmate at a time. I am a GED instructor in a state prison. The job itself is equal parts teacher, life coach, drill instructor, cop, beaurocrat and zookeeper.

Yep, but I'm hoping more for the 6th graders. I'll take any though. I've been gifted with being able to take the difficult and make it simple (have had many people say that over the years), and the same goes with math too. I wish my middle school math teachers had that gift. They could make the difficult.....impossible to understand.

I once wrote about the SLOSH model that is used to determine the evacuation routes throughout the US in relation to hurricanes. It's a very technical model and they integrate GIS into it for creating the maps, etc. Anyway, I wrote on the model and how it impacted my community. This was for my comp 2 class in college, here in FL. My teacher passed it out to the class because it was so informative, and commented on how I was able to take the obviously complicated and make it simple. Mom said the same thing. I've taught calculus to people - showing the beauty in its simplicity. But yeah, Craig, I know what you mean - I've had a few of them too!
