Hi guys,

I am single and 36 and female. The past few months I have had stubborn acne on my lower jaw that is unresponsive to almost everything. I have tried water filters for my shower, liver flushes, enemas, juicing, natural stuff on my face, all with very mild results.

Perhaps it's hormones. I went to the doctor several months ago and my blood tests were normal, no menopause or thyroid problems.

Do any of you have recipes that you have found to be effective.

I am not making much income right now. My acne isn't severe. I would say mild to moderate, oh, and it seems to leave little pink marks after they go away.

What's your general diet like? How much processed food do you eat? Sugar? Caffeine? What stress are you under?

Was this why you saw your doctor or was it for some other reason?

Are you taking B vitamins? Those cause me to have acne.

I am very surprised to hear that, as Vitamin B is often used to fight acne, and also as it only stays in the system for 24 hours, our bodies can't store it.

I suggest you see your doctor. My doctor gave me some antibiotics which cleared mine up within about a month, after having had problems with it for a couple of years.

Hi Agepetos,

I went on a website and found a dermatologist who gave some online tips. I am experimenting with totally removing dairy. She says that the hormones in dairy (the natural ones from the cow, not the ones we add) can cause us to overproduce oil, causing a "traffic jam" in our system when combines with our hormones, blocking our pores. I tried raw milk and that has caused breakouts for me in the past.

This is day 2 with no dairy. Hoepfully this will be the answer

Well I don't buy that, many doctors don't believe acne is caused by diet. I am sure you got that information from a "natural" foods website which are the same ones that are promoting the flushes and enemas you have purchased. Save your money and see a dermatologist or try an acne wash first..

Medical websites state now that diet isn't a factor in acne. Its usually hormonal. Cutting out whole food groups will lead to other issues down the road. If you cut out dairy you'll need to supplement your calcium.

Diet. That's the first thing you should look at. In addition to losing 30 pounds at once, my face came smoother and clearer.

Diet is really the source of all physical attributes. If you have a hard time eating eating healthy, at least drink more water.

I agree that you should carefully examine your diet.

Tomatoes can sometimes cause acne.

You can google B12 and acne and come up with the literature if you wish. B vitamins gave me horrendous acne and then I read about the studies that told of others with the same experience. Anyway, it is not everyone but was certainly my experience. And I just thought it might be a helpful hint re: the OP.

I've read about Vitamin B12 shots causing a certain type of acne in some people, but not B vitamins as a whole. Do you have any links for that?

I agree.

My question wasn't regarding particular groups of food but diet in general. Splost, how much refined food are you eating? How much unrefined food? What about fruit and vegetables? If your diet consists mainly of refined foods with little fruit and veg, you may need to look to change that for the answer to your problem, rather than blame dairy foods.

I googled and didn't find anything. As Manda said, links would be useful.

It should be pointed out though that it's much better to get vitamins and minerals from our food than via supplements and that too high doses of certain supplements can be fatal so do check with a pharmacist if you're thinking of taking more than the recommended daily dose. Some people with some health problems may well benefit from supplements, but eating a balanced diet should reduce the need for them.

They can be attributed to a number of reasons: PMS, hormonal imbalance, stress, lack of sleep & anxiety.

The Pill has always been prescribed for acne. I would check with your physician, though...just to be on the safe side.

Neutrogena has good range for these blemishes.

Your age and the location of the acne (along your jawline) = hormones, and there's not much you can do about it.

Removing dairy and sugars from your diet will most certainly help your skin, period, but to combat the hormonal acne you'll need to talk to your doctor about medication that will help (most likely birth control, like Yaz).

Also to help, you'll want to examine your skin care routine. The simpler, the better. I can't recommend anything, not knowing your skin type (and other factors) but avoid soaps and chemical-laden cleansers.

On a side note, I have read A LOT about acne, and never once anything about B causing it.

Being vegetarian/raw, and not drinking alcohol, gave me the most amazing skin I've had in my life (except for the brief period when Accutane was working).

To reiterate, it sounds like (given the location, along your jawline) it is hormonal and you'll need to approach treatment from that angle.

Hi guys,

I have gone nearly three days with barey any dairy. Barely meaning I only cheated with a brownie bite and a small cookie. My skin seems to be calming down.

I read that since 90 percent of our milk comes from pregnant cows, the hormones in the milk (not the ones we inject, the natural ones from the cow) can cause a hormone traffic jam in some individuals. This sounds interesting as I have noticed a connecting between drinking milk (even raw all natural) and breakouts.

Perhaps nonfat would make a difference. Anyhow, I was allergic to milk as a baby and was put on a soy formula. Milk doesn't make me feel sick, but it is worth it to me to stay away from it if my skin continues to calm down.

I'm amazed then that you didn't think of this first!!

Do you have any other health issues - eg migraines, digestive disturbances..... ?

I don't remember what I filled in for the subject line on google but probably just Vitamin B12 and acne. I remember a German study in particular that I read.

I've had to take megadoses of B12 and have done both oral and injection and I got acne (what I'd describe as bad acne) from both.

Wow, a thread about acne, I was hoping to find one. I don't think I can blame dairy for mine as I don't use a big amount of dairy. I know I eat too many refined foods and not enough fruits and vegetables so I really do want to improve my diet. Does anyone have good remedies for blackheads? I've really been having problems with those lately.

Splost, I know you said you didn't want to spend alot of $, but the rx that I use is cleocin T solution. It worked for me when nothing else would.

Well, I have been some problems with acne too. I'm currently seeing a dermatologist (but in my case, work is paying for it). He's given me a solution and a cream and told me it would take about 2 weeks before I see any results. I haven't had any outbreaks on my neck since using it, but still having issues on the face (especially the cheeks). Got a check-up next week (which happens to be the day after I'm getting a mole removed), so will see what he says. I just bought a book "You are what you eat" mainly to help me eat healthier and lose a little weight. Skimming through the book, it also talks about what influence certain foods have on your health and it discusses acne too. There's some tips on how to get a healthy skin and says one should reduce foods that clog, like red meat, dairy, refined foods, fried foods and foods that contain hydrogenated oils or fats (guess I'll have to google that )

I've been using St. Ives scrubs for months and I do like them but it seems like they're not doing the job. I know my diet leaves much to be desired lately so I really think that may have something to do with my breakouts. I guess there's only one way to remedy that!

I wonder if the scrubs are causing the problem in that they're too harsh for your skin?
