Do you guys ever feel like you get treated like your opinion didn't count on other places on CW, just cause you weren't married and/or didn't have kids? USUALLY it doesn't happen to me, but it has happened a couple of times

Every time I express an opinion about something concerning marriage or children around my family, I get responses like, "How would you know?" or something similar. I just keep my mouth shut now.

Actually, I found as a preschool teacher, I was usually quite respected by the parents, guess they thought I was the expert or something. I was mainly referring to here on Crosswalk.

Try going into some areas and say that you don't want to have children and see how you get attacked! It's horrible. So yeah, I've seen in and felt it.

You know, I don't concern myself much with whether or not my opinon matters. If I feel like expressing it, I will. I know I'm not brainless because I'm childless. I have other issues relative to being brainless... ...whether anyone believes it or not.

Try going into some areas and say that you don't want to have children That is so dumb. If someone knows they don't want kids, then it makes sense for them not to have them, rather than have them and not enjoy them. Sheesh, I thought it was a free country. And I don't think anyone can slam you with the Be fruitful and multiply command.. the earth is quite well multiplied at this point. Actually the earth is still several tens of millions short of where we should be at this stage. (The entire population of the world would easily fit in TX with each person having about 2500 sq ft. We've got tons of space left here.) But that doesn't mean that everyone is commanded to have kids. We can be fruitful and multiply in other ways. Most people eventually come around to wanting kids. Some people never want kids and that's OK. Some people worship best as Baptists while others worship best as Pentecostals. God has a place and a task for each of us. It would be awfully silly for me to try to be a basketball player when I have no desire (or talent) for it. It's just as silly to expect someone to have kids if they have no desire for it.

Why do people always want to interpret that verse to mean having children? That's certainly not the only way of 'being fruitful'!!

Yeah, I know what you mean. People tend to treat you like you haven't reached full maturity until you're married with kids. It's quite sad.

I was married with kids and still haven't reached full maturity. Truth be told, I never intend to reach it. But I will keep moving that way. Get older (and wiser) without growing old.

I have never been left out or mistreated for being single. However, I have been knocked around A TON because I don't want biological children. Mostly, I think at least for meself that the feeling of not belonging or being left out is because of the large number of threads in other areas that don't apply to me and that I could care less about. For example, Women Only Personal has no appeal to me since I couldn't give a rip about pregnancy or childbirth.

I don't get that here mostly because when the topic of children comes up I just don't have anything to contribute to the conversation. I feel it much more in society at large (eg. work, family, etc) Many times I feel like a real weirdo just because I have no spouse or family of my own.

I've had to deal with issues like this before. Having been through seminary (though not ordained at this time), I've made observations to people concerning marriage and/or raising kids. Sometimes people will take what I've said seriously. Other times, they will, at the least, look at me as if I have some sort of obscene object growing out of my forehead. Since I've been married and divorced, most people take my comments concerning marriage a little more seriously. Though, probably half of the people that I current work with are quite content to just 'have a friend with benefits' for as long as is 'pleasant' for them. Although I haven't had much opportunity to talk with others concerning child rearing as of late, I do once in a while. In spite of my background in youth ministry, studying psychology, and helping others (both friends and family) take care of their kids, I'm sometimes looked at as if I must be redicously crazy (and not about Star Wars, which would be true!).
