Hi, this weekend it was suggested the fall was caused when Adam and Eve stopped trusting what God told them, not at the time they partook of the forbidden fruit. Is this another slant on what caused the fall or something new to play down the importance of one's behavior as a member of The Family? (Drussell52)

I would say that partaking in the fruit was a sign that they didn't have the same level of trust in God, but I would not say that it was the real cause for the fall. Their initial sin was disobedience.

Yes indeed it was disobedience before anything else and taking part in the fruit was just an outcome of his disobedience for the Bible tells us that "sin entered by one man" and that one man was ADAM and not the so called Devil or Satan. "We" are accountable for our own actions and there is no one or entity to blame. The biggest obstacle in our life is "ourselves" and when we look in the mirror in the morning you will see your biggest enemy and obstacle.

dduuggyy, While Icertainly agree that we as individuals are responsible for our actions, are you suggesting that Satan is not a real entity?

Many theologians consider self pride to be the root of all sin. Certainly a loss of trust in their Creator would have been a major factor in A&E developing a prideful attitude toward God's one simple prohibition. What do you think, drussell?

I agree that pride is the cause of many sins. John put it this way: For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. -1 John 2:16

Certainly pride was involved. The serpent tempted Eve with the prospect of "being like God" if I remember correctly.
