A Good Announcement:

My brother, Douglas, has joined the United States Army!

He leaves for training on August 6th.

I think this will be a really good thing for him, and I hope he succeeds and does well.

Catherine! That is terrific. At least I pray it will be terrific. I really do think it will help to give him a more secure stable, disciplined, daily life for the most part. Will get a little more scary if he has to go to Iraq but we'll just keep praying him through. ((((((Douglas)))))))

I'm doing well. Pretty much recovered from my surgery 7 weeks ago and working on building up some energy. Kind of reeling from the brutal murder on the Greyhound near here a couple of nights ago.

Maggie, Josh just mentioned this a few hours ago. I had not heard about it yet and, he was shocked. Josh is usually so calm about telling things, but I could tell this really was... well, he kept saying bizarre and weird and...
I think I will google the story.

And Maggie, glad to hear you are doing okay after your surgery. I have sent a prayer for energy for you.

Kath, those are some mighty huge flowers in your avatar. LOL!!

Hi Trish, Dee, Ben, Christine and Brandy!!

That is what I hope. It has been a long time since he has had any sort of authority figure. Even when I was still living at home and he was 13-14 he pretty much did what he wanted.

I am hoping I will be able to go to his graduation from Basic Training. It will be in Oklahoma. It will depend on how soon he tells me when it is because 3 months out I can buy plane tickets for $139 each way, but last minute is $400 per way.

Sharon ~ I wish Oklahoma was closer than 15 hours to you. I will make it there someday.

Where in Oklahoma will it be? And yeah, tell me when, when you know.

We'll together some day Catherine. I pray that.

Edit to ADD: Catherine, you can pm me the info if you would prefer not to post it.

I can't remember. I do know they are real. I found that picture scrolling through yahoo news photos a year ago and it's been in my avatar folder ever since. They are gorgeous though, aren't they?

They appear to be huge Yellow Daisies.
I thought it looked like a type of daisy but I guess I have never seen any that big.
And yes they are gorgeous.

Thanks Kimberly, I believe you are right! I've never grown any so big, mine are usually like 2-3 inches across.

Yeah, if anyone really wants flowers as an avatar, the floral sites have a ton that could be used.

I was looking around at floral sites earlier and came across this adorable arrangement with Peter Rabbit.

That is precious.

I watched a movie about Beatrix Potter, it was truly a sweet film. I don't think I've ever seen such a sweet film. I believe it was just called Miss Potter Even Linz said it, so she caught the mood too.

Catherine --- did Douglas finish HS yet????

That's great that he joined the army. That will do wonders for him. Josh was a Marine and joined right after high school because he didn't know what else to do with his life. He did ROTC in HS and it really molded him, so joining the corp was what he needed. And it really shaped him as a man. He is who he is 90% of the Marines.

No, he dropped out.

The first thing he is going to do with the Army when he leaves home is go to their GED classes.

That was my next question. I figured he'd need at least a GED. I'm glad he can do that through them. That will probably motivate him.

Douglas is a very good looking young man. I bet he looks really good in a dress uniform.

I found out last night that Douglas' graduation will be later than I expected. He has a two week gap between GED classes and starting Basic Training. So now his graduation from BT will be +/- Nov 22. He starts training for his Army job on Nov 24. :( No way the call center would give me that off. If I am still working here and don't still have Friday/Saturday off come November and can't find anyone to switch me days off I guess I will call in sick.

My foster kittens are doing well. The nice one is really nice now and he will stand on top of the scratching post and meow at me to come visit him. The semi-nice one is now all nice and will even purr for me. The mean one is still grouchy and doesn't play as much as the other two... when I put them inside the play yard I have it mostly just lays down in the corner so the other two will leave it alone.
Last night I trimmed the nails of the two nice ones. I put one of them on the scale and it weighed 1 pound 4 ounces.

How much do the kittens have to weigh before they get taken back?

I am having a hard time knowing what day it is now with switching days off. One minute I know and the next I do not.
We have two fridges at work, and one gets cleaned out Tuesday and the other on Wednesday (the cleaning people throw pretty much everything in there away). I had my stuff in the Wednesday fridge, then on Tuesday I thought it was Wednesday so I moved my stuff. Then later I realized it was still Tuesday and not Wednesday and I should have left my stuff where it was.
When I got home from work I reminded Matt that tomorrow was trash day. Then later I asked him what day it was and he thought I was joking...

Wednesday was a long day.
I went to the appraisal office for three hours from 11 AM - 2 PM. I do not do so well that early... especially when I am lacking sleep.
Then I went to the call center for my eight hours there.
I visited two different coffee shops today. At the first I got one shot of espresso. At the second I got an energy shot (with B vitamins and stuff). Then I had half of a Pepsi and I think that worked best of all.
For dinner I splurged and had sushi. It was not as good as I remembered.

I am doing it all over again tomorrow.

The reason I am lacking sleep is because of our not-so-wonderful dogs.
Monday night after I got in bed Ami barked and barked and barked and that is not like her at all. Matt got his gun and walked through the inside and outside of the house and there was nothing. I was going to give Ami some Benedryl to knock her out. I was going to carve out a treat to put the Benedryl in so she would actually eat it. While I was carving the treat the knife slipped and I stabbed myself in the hand. That was wonderful. Ami never did get the Benedryl because I was too sad about my hand.
Then Tuesday night I got woken up twice because the dogs wanted to go out... each at separate times. Usually they stay quiet til 7:30 when Matt lets them out as he is leaving for work. :(

I have to go get finger printed so I can turn in my application to the state to have an appraiser intern license. I am hoping to start that on September 1, and it will probably take me longer than the two years the license is initially good for to get in my 2400 hours of internship... but it will be good to start.

Douglas left for the Army on Wednesday. I called him during the five minutes I had between getting to call center and my shift starting. At that point it was 1.5 hours from him being picked up for the airport and he was just then packing... just like me. I reminded him not to take any full sized toiletries or sharp objects on the plane.

Pray that my dogs will stay quiet so I can get some sleep tonight.

oh, I hope you didn't hurt it too badly.

I hardly know what day it is either, but Larry bought those atomic clocks and put those ugly things in every room of the house so at least I can look up to see what day it is.

I often think about your atomic clocks. You may think they look ugly but they sure are a cool idea.

Maybe we need some atomic clocks. I actually do have a clock in every room of my house, but they only tell the time.

Well, the appraisal place was fun today. One boss took me out on his two inspections. Both the houses were in foreclosure. One was pretty much fine except for some damaged stucco. The other house the people left all their trash in the house. He was showing me some stuff about measuring and how to tell what foundation it is and what to look for. It was fun for me.

Yesterday (I didn't go but I did see pictures) he looked at a foreclosure house and the people took a lot of stuff from the house. They completely tore out the kitchen (appliances and cabinets), took the water heater, and took the A/C unit. What good would that stuff do you without a house?

I have a busy weekend planned:

Friday:
- going to the movies with a coworker to see "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants II"
- going to chiropractor
- need to go get fingerprinted

maybe Friday:
- post office
- want to go look at clothes on summer clearance

Saturday:
- going to dinner with Matt's parents

need to do some time:
- buy tickets to the concert we are planning to go to next month
- go through the back log of mail
- put away the groceries I bought Monday (it was late and so I left all the non-perishable stuff sitting on the counter)
