That could be a good way to get your foot in the door, Kristin! What type of training would you need?
I wouldn't put my foot in the door in jail.  They are heavy and you have to depend on someone else to open it.
Being a jailer does give you a chance for a lucrative second income dealing in contraban. 
I think I'll pass on the second income... I'd like to only be in jail WORKING there... not as a guest...  However, if you're ever in the area, I can probably arrange some overnight accomadations for you...
As far as Deb's question - the way this department does it, this is how it would work:
After getting hired (after all the testing, testing and more testing), you would start working at the jail immediately with an FTO (field training officer). You basically stick to them like glue and learn all the different areas the correctional officers work. You work each area until they feel you know what you are doing. This apparently usually takes a few months. Next, you head off to the academy which for correctional officers, takes about 1 month. Assuming you graduate, you then head back to the jail, where you are on a probationary period for a year. Of course, no matter how long you have been there, you are required to take part in monthly training.

Prayer! Yer darn tootin' that says a lot about the staff. That's awesome! I can think of many a time I would have benefited from prayer on the job. How cool is that?

I don't know Mike. One of my favorites bumper stickers was on a ladies car in Florida. It read WARNING I HAVE PMS. And a hand gun.

), I was pushing myself and feeling good (once I got going that is!). Towards the end, I was neck and neck with another gal and we tried to outsprint each other to the finish line. I think she beat me by a nose but we got the small crowd at the finish line going. A few people actually came over after the race and commented on it.
