Ed, glad y'all made it safely home. Sorry the weather was so bad on you. Know your nerves must have been shot driving in that kind of weather. Hope the guys slept and didn't tell you how to drive.

Actually my nerves were fine. I just relax and watch what is going on all around me. Usually accidents in bad weather are caused by people not caring or realizing that the weather is bad and they need to SLOW down.

They treat me well. Actually they all said when we made it to Gadsden that they slept very well. The guys are the ones that gave me my moniker.

I'd ride with you anytime, Ed.

Next time I see you I hope it's more than just a wave thru the windshield.

Gold City was back in our area this past Thur. nite, this time at a high school in a town about an hour N instead of an hour W, where we saw them at a church last week. That is rare for them to be that close, that often. We did not try to go due to snow concerns, more-so between here and there, rather than there. The concert promoters had a S IL newspaper columnist for the Evansville, IN, Courier serve as the MC for the night. He wrote about the concert in his column in todays Sunday Courier. He had nice things to say about the concert in general, and said it was reminder from his past as to just how enjoyable SG style music can be.

Hey everyone:

Gold City has cancelled tonight's concert in Lexington, KY and tomorrow night's concert in Parkersburg, WV due to the big Blizzard we're having! Just some FYI! Be BLESSED!

It was BAD. It took me 4 hours to go the first 130 miles from Owensboro,KY to Nashville,TN. It then took me 5 to go from Nashville to Gadsden which usually takes me 3 1/2 hours.

Glad you are home safe and sound!!! Looking forward to seeing and hearing the guys in Hickory on Saturday.

No, the young man standing next to Brian is not Jerry Ritchie. Jerry was the baritone at that time. Still looking for the name of the lead singer.

No Sir, still not right. not Ken Trussell either. Try again. This young man only sang with GC appx 8-10 weeks as I recall was living in Hueytown AL and moved to Nashville.

It was great!!! I was the 'Nana' with the baby back at the table at lot if you were back there before or after the concert. If you had asked any of the guys except for Bruce they could have pointed me out. Bruce is excellent!!! I actually took some notes and will try to put together my thoughts on the concert when I get in from church tonight. I enjoyed it so much I actually considered driving to Iron Station for their service tonight

Well here is my take on the concert:

I went to Hickory, NC last night really not knowing what to expect from the Gold City sound. Jonathan Wilburn had been a part of the group so long it was hard to imagine them without him. But I wanted to hear Bruce and see how the group was sounding. I got to meet Bruce before the service and he is a very personable young man.

Before the concert started we were told that all proceeds from the concert were going to missions so it seemed appropriate when Gold City took the stage with “Ain’t That What It’s All About?”. The blend was good and the guys appeared to be in top form. They wasted no time in bringing Bruce up for a song that had featured Jonathan as “Look Who Just Checked In” was their second number. Bruce has a clear tone with just the right timbre to hit what we expect on those ‘Jonathan songs’. Aaron stepped up to take the lead on ‘After a While’, followed by “In My Robe of White”. Bruce was singing the favorites from both the Jonathan and Ivan era and the crowd was loving it.

Daniel was featured next on “I’m Saved, I’m Sealed’ and Steve did “Calvary Covers It All’ and I’ve never heard either of them sound better. Next up was what my daughter labeled as ‘the test song’ as Bruce was featured on ‘I’m Rich’. I’m not going to tell you that he sounds just like Jonathan because he doesn’t but I will tell you that this, while he put his own ‘touches’ to this and several other songs, they met the expectations and more of every fan there. We saw just a bit of the soul Bruce is capable of putting into his music on this song.

Next Josh was featured on “Old Gospel Ship”, what can you say about Josh that hasn’t already been said? “Mercy Came Running” brought Daniel back up front and the blend and smoothness of this song was just right. Bruce showed a bit more of this ability to become a part of the song on “I’m Not Giving Up” and the crowd was on their feet. After the encores, Steve came up to talk about why the message in the song “Preach The Word” is so important during these times. Again the crowd loved the rendition.

During the break two things of note happened. First, Pastor Carlos from the orphanages in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic that this singing was raising funds for spoke and told about this ministry. His message and that of Nino, one of the young men there touched many hearts.

Next the promoter brought up a man, Dave Bolts, that had cancer and was facing surgery this Wednesday. Quickly the members of Gold City joined those gathering around this man to pray. I learned after the concert that he not only has cancer but he is unsaved. He certainly needs all our prayers.

Gold City opened up the second half with “One Scarred Hand”, again while there were some slight differences in a few places, Bruce nailed this song. Aaron stepped up again on “God’s Still Good” and “Under Control”. I guess if I’m going to be totally honest in what I’m telling to me “Under Control” has never been done better than by Tim Riley but Aaron does a good job.

“I Believe In The Blessed Hope” was followed by a strong (and one of my favorite) renditions of “Truth Is Marching On”. Gold City is weathering the winds of change just fine. As their reached the finale “When He Calls” the crowd was again on their feet and Bruce was out in the middle of them.

All in all it was a tremendous concert, I believe when Bruce has truly made his niche with Gold City (and that will be soon if crowd response is any indicator) he will set his own standard of excitement, talent and dedication that we have long come to expect from the group.

Something I thought was neat. When Nino (the young man from the orphanage) spoke, he told Gold City he had never heard them before 'but man I really like it!'. When he left the stage, each of the guys hugged him and Pastor Carlos.
