Just a quick post...

I got some info from Steve about their new project coming out in July. He gave me the titles of two songs that will be on the album.

Cast Your Bread Upon The Water
Turn Your Back (a remake of a Cathedrals classic)

oooh my, I love "Turn Your Back". It was on....give me a second to think of it.........OH YEA, it was on "Something Special", a project from 1982. That LP also had "Then Came The Morning", "Mexico", and the original cut of "Step Into The Water". I'm REALLY hoping Aaron will have the lead on it. If so, then it may well turn out just as good as George's recording.
"Cast Your Bread Upon The Water" sounds framilliar. I'm thinking it was first recorded by the Imperials, then the Gaither Vocal Band.
It sounds like this album will definatley have some varieity.

Classics Vol. 2 has been in the works since last year sometime. In fact, all the tracks for the project were finished before the end of last September. I mentioned the shelving of the project on my blog here, on September 27. They stopped working on Classics to begin work on the project that is now titled Moment of Truth.

Other song titles that I am pretty sure they mentioned to me that will be on the project include "Glory Is Waiting" and "Love Went Deeper".

I am very happy that they are going back to the project to finish the vocals. Thanks for the update, Matt!

Any word on when "Moment of Truth" will be released?

I think Moment Of Truth is scheduled for a July 1 street date. I expect that Gold City will begin selling the project at their Homecoming, starting June 26.

I'm not big on 'classics' albums. I almost always seem to prefer the original cuts of songs by a specific artist. I don't mind an artist going back and re-doing an older hit/song on a newer album but an entire album of re-done songs is too much.

I prefer "classics" albums to countless "best of" compilations.

The reason I like Gold City's "Classics" projects is that they only do them when they have a huge turnover. The first one, only Tim had recorded the songs before. On Volume two, it has been a 100% changeover since these songs were originally released.

The thing is I don't mind the current line-up singing older Gold City standards in concert but I still don't want a re-done album version of a specific song. Go figure....

Different things for different people. I understand your point, although I feel differently.

Funny thing is that you say you wouldn't "want a re-done album version of a specific song." I would love to have a high quality recording of Jonathan Wilburn singing "There Rose A Lamb". I have wanted Gold City to do Classics v2 for over ten years, just because I thought the song would make the cut. Of course, after he leaves, they get around to finishing the project. I haven't heard whether or not "There Rose A Lamb" will be on it, though.

I understand why artists have to do them. Since artists don't sell the older/original recordings they have to have something on the table to sell if the song is being sung in concert. There will always be new people in the audience that will want to have a particular song that will not be available unless re-done on a new 'classics' project.

Plus... it's fun to hear a "new" group sing those classic songs. Who knows, they may give a song a little twist, or slightly different arrangement. Example.... "Who But God" on Classics.

I'm so excited about the new cd's . any idea of when "classics" will be available?

I enjoy those remakes!

Other question:

Who all will be going to the GC homecoming? I am tentatively planning on going for the reunion night, but probably won't be able to make it for the other nights due to some church activities

Good to see that Classics 2 is going to be revisited and completed. I'd been awaiting it since I saw this back in September!

Steve told me that they're hoping to have Classics 2 by NQC.

Although it would be cool if they can get Classics 1 re-released at the same time, perhaps have it them both as a bonus pack... but that's my opinion!

It'd be fun listening to the guys re-sing these older songs! Although.. it makes me wonder, will they include some songs from the mid-late 90's group?

It was great! I'm in the process of writing a reveiw, but have been so busy, I haven't completed it yet. It was the best GC concert I've been to so far! Excitement everywhere!

They didn't sing anything new at the concert here. Are you sure they didn't sing sing "He Sent Me Running" from the Pillars of Faith? They sure like singing those older songs....

I'm just glad "I'm Not Giving Up" hasn't left their lineup of songs!
