Well my son is the only child I know that doesn't like them, so it was a pretty good idea... just an oopsie...

He's calmed down somewhat...

I must say that is the best part of being an Aunt. Spoil the little fellas rotten then when they get fussy, pass them off to mom or dad...

John, I'm glad your shoulder pain isn't heart related.

I can't answer for John, but for me it's dealing with my temper. I know you probably anticipated a disability-related answer, Rachel, but I think the frustrations of disability are what the Lord uses to expose my anger issues. KWIM?

I sure agree with that, ladies!

But I even fail at spoiling them now that they're grown. The youngest just turned 18. But John's niece has two wee girls aged 2-1/2 and 5 months, so we have a new generation to spoil!

Hi Judy. Glad you're back!

And James, you might visit Focus on the Family's website and listen to the broadcasts from Monday, yesterday and today. They talk about making kids behave.

Hi Sue, Ray, Sarah and Kristiin!

Hi Deb!

James, I didn't answer you the other night because I never did find a good solution with my boys. I'm just thankful they grew out of that stage. My mil tells a story about my hubby's one and only temper tantrum. She dumped a glass of cold water on his head and he never threw another one. I've heard other moms from her generation saying the same thing so it must have been something they were told to do way back when. Not sure if someone would turn you in for child abuse if you did it now.

..... So.... DebbieLynne and John....

I guess disablity has a part in what is most challenging to me. I'd like to be able to be less limited in how I express love for DebbieLynne. One of the most frustrating aspects of my upper arm pain was not the difficulty in transfers, but my not being able to give foot massages or shoulder/back rubs to my wife. Even when my arm isn't hurting at all, my limited stamina limits how much I can rub my wife's shoudlers or feet when they are bothering her.

Another challenge to us is transportation. We thank God for the paratransit service that gets us to church and appointments, and the accessible bus, subway, and commuter trains that we use to get around. But it would be so nice to have the ability to have transporation (such as with an accessible van) that would allow us to go, say, to a church that had the of Scripture expositional preaching/teaching that we both love.

But we know others have more restrictions in their lives. Like Marsha, who doesn't have any paratransit service on Sundays where she lives. So we are thankful for what God provides.

Thanks for your asking. Thanks for your concern, Rachel.

Anyone have any ideas on how to calm down a (severely) overreacting child? He's just about to have a meltdown and my ears can't take much more.

On Focus on the Family they had Dr. Kevin Leman talking about his lastest book, Have a New Kid by Friday. You could visit the site and listen to the programs, or obtain the book at a bookstore or library. He seems to have some sensible ideas for training kids to have better behavior.

.... thanks, DebbieLynne!

A challenge for me: I've been diagnosed with chronic depression... I've had it since I was 6 years old...

I was diagnosed in 2001/2002 and placed on meds because of some terrible life circumstances....

I went off my meds (finally) two weeks before my husband's surgery (about 6 weeks ago) because I can't afford the prescription anymore ... and I'm still going through with-drawl.... but even more... I am very aware of my mood swings... and have to make absolutely sure that I don't let myself get out of control....

..... and yeah... anger is a sign of depression... so I keep an eye on my anger level.

I think I'll be okay.... but keeping close tabs on myself seems tiring at the moment.

I think that God has a sense of humor.... because I am a very bubbly person at heart.... it seems weird that I fight depression and probably will fight it until I go Home....

I chalk it up to being the 'thorn' in my side!

I thought depression was a form of anger. Live and learn, I guess.

We had company all afternoon...friends from church. I showed our wedding video to the mom and daughter, while John and the son played chess. We were all supposed to go to Boston together, but thunder storms were predicted. And indeed several came through Boston. We did go over to Wendy's for lunch.

Where is everybody? Did I scare people away yesterday?

I've just been busy and haven't had a ton of time to post the last day or so. The little time I have had, I've gotten sucked into a few threads that... ummm... yeah....

You didn't scare me away, it's just been a busy day. Weight Watchers and farmer's market in the morning, exercise and shopping in the afternoon.
