It's feeling a lot better and only ended up with a nasty bruise, so I guess sitting with an icepack on it right after I dropped the timber on it did it's job.

I wasn't happy when we went outside this morning. Our bin was overflowing again, a problem since we moved to Brisbane as they have a completely different, and I believe inferior, waste system here and someone's dog had gotten under our fence and pulled one of the bags apart spreading garbage everywhere.

I'm glad about the knee. That's a pain about the garbage though.

Well, I need to head offline so I can get a few things done before my craft group is over this afternoon. I'll talk to you all later.

Hi Everyone,
Had a great weekend. Got some good photos - think i'm becoming an arachnophiliac or however it is spelt. If anyone wants lots of photos of lots of spiders - i've got them lol. I think i've invented a new word, it's not in the computer dictionary that i use.

Just read about your knee Kylie. Just sit back, let everyone do everything for you and don't let anyone know when it's gotten better.

Glad you had some sunny skies, Nada. Wish we could export some over for you, there's plenty here to go around. We have May Day/Labour day over this way as well. However, since I am retired, holidays don't quite mean the same - especially when you get into town and find everything closed. lol

Cheers everyone,
buddy

Buddy, I wish I could, but with two very active children and dh having to be run to the Medical Centre today I haven't had much chance.

I heard the same radio reports that rapture did on the reindeer too. The police were hailed by a motorist around 3am in the morning in the Fairfield district in south west Sydney who reported seeing a reindeer. The police were of course sceptical but soon came across it nearby but were unable to capture it. It was last Wednesday morning.

The Bali 9 are up a creek without a paddle. The only debate is whether the Federal Police should have arrested them on their return to Australia rather than in Bali.

Schappelle Corby is in a similar position becuase of the way the Indonesian court system works. She is likely to get a jail sentence despite all the evidence that is in her favour. There is no need to smuggle marijuana from Australia to Indonesia as there is plenty of local supply in both places. I might understand someone taking a few grams for personal use even though I don't condone their behaviour.
If you say you don't know that smuggling drugs in any part of South east Asia carries the death penalty then you are naive beyond belief.
I understand the death penalty in places like Inndonesia for heroin as an overdose can kill quickly. I don't see the logic in having the same for marijuana as it kills slowly like smoking does. It can also have other side effects such as memory loss & loss of sexual functioning.

so is it going to be Howard or Costello? That seems to be the main news story lately. I really don't care either way its just a pity that there doesn't seem to be much else in the news. Looks like another Keating/Hawke type of leadership tussle but at least it gives the media something to talk about.

This is an expected delivery but we have to go through the labour *G*

Anyone see the service that was telecast yesterday of Sir Joh's funeral?
I know Lady Flo and she is a beautiful Christian woman. Their son-in-law was our minister for some years here on the coast. Pastor Noel did some readings at the service.

I only saw some clips of the funeral on the news. I know they have been a very staunch Christian family and seeing Lady Flo, I was reminded of a dear friend of mine who so sure of where her husband was spending eternity. I think Lady Flo has that same assurance for Sir Joh. I did not necessarily agree with a lot of the way he went about things, but he was a Christian and he certainly brought the flavour of the Lord into parliament, in much the same way Fred Nile does.

And speaking of Howard and Costello, maybe it is time for Costello to have a go at the helm. I don't pretend to know a great deal about the whole political structure or policies or anything like that, but even though I like Howard, he has been there a while and sometimes it is good to get fresh blood at the top. Regardless of any of that though I think Costello is more of a 'dedicated' Christian than Howard and that would have to be a good thing wouldn't it?

Just my opinion.

actually I wasn't aware that Costello was a Christian. I know his brother Tim is but didn't know about Peter.
Quite a few of the liberals are Christians e.g. Alexander downer and Tony Abbott as are people like Ron Boswell in the nationals.

Both Tim & Peter are but they have some differing opinions on how to implement their faith in their daily lives.

I think an orderly transfer is necessary but the PM is fit & capable to stay as long as he wants to. Costello is still young & could still bide his time for another couple of years if he needs to but he is getting a bit impatient. He is 47 going on 48. I can understand the argument for Howard to go in March after 10 years as PM giving Costello approx 18 months to the next election. I would add another few months & give him to middle of next year. The other problem is that Costello doesn't have the numbers within the party to do anything about it & that may not change for a while.

The other story of course is Latham's diary which is said to be explosive. I believe that will mean he has returned to his angry young man stance & will have more invective than anything ever delivered by Paul Keating.

And that just makes it so much more obvious why I'm glad he didn't make it as PM. Can you imagine a man ful of that much vituperative in that position?

I believe he was potentially more dangerous than Keating was. Thankfully we will never find out due to his health problems which I pray he recovers from. I believe Latham was similar in many ways to Rene Rivkin in the sense that he was very bright & could at times communicate some excellent ideas but with his class warfare on display he behaved like someone like Rivkin who had bipolar disorder.

Hi Everyone,
3,400 photos albumised and, it would seem, still 7000 to go - I forgot about 500 slides from the 60's and 300 or so from the 70's which haven't even been scanned yet. Ah well, gives me plenty to do for sure.

Concerning leaders and wouldbe leaders, I found this pearl in the Psalms,

But God is the judge: He putteth down one, and setteth up another

Thus, it is a necessity that people remember to pray to God for their nations everywhere.

quote:

For the Kingdom is the Lord's: and He is the Governor among the nations Ps.22:28

And now, back to the photos. Have a good day everyone

Buddy

hi ausme, I was interested to hear about your photos especially your mention of slides. How do you scan them?
We have hundreds of slides also which should be digitized somehow.

Hi ChesterDash,
You need to specify a scanner that has the capabilities to scan slides/film. They use to be quite expensive once but are more reasonable these days. Mine has done the job quite well once I understood the overeas software - a small matter of interpretation. Only one slide could be done at a time - for the 35mm? slides but it was worth it. I had a lot of dust and such on them but for the important ones they can be touched up ok using a reasonable editor. I tried many editors on a trial basis but finally settled on Photo Impact by Ulead. If you like I can email you a before/after example.

Now I have to do some much smaller ones that were the only size used in the USA in the 70's. I am reluctant to get started on them but one day ...

Hi everybody. I see we've been quite chatty in here lately. That's good!

I know that Tim Costello is a Christian, but I wasn't aware of Peter being one also.

Somehow, I didn't feel comfortable with Latham.

As for the Howard/Costello thing, I'm just going to pray that God puts in who He wants. I know in the flesh who I'd prefer, but God's decision is far better than what my flesh thinks.

Scanning, huh? I have a scanner, but I'm yet to work out how to use it. One of these days, I'm going to have to have to figure out how to use it.

I hope you have a lovely time Marleneann!

A few of my nieces and nephews are getting to the engaged/married/living together stages. It seems strange that these 'little kids' are now old enough to have partners. And makes me contemplate just how soon J and X will be there too (currently 10 and 8yo).

We've got a fairly quiet weekend planned. We may make a prayer meeting tonight and dh is picking up our cat after having her desexing this afternoon on his way home from work.

On Saturday we're helping get rid of some garbage from church and then dh has two full installs and one job to complete while J, X and I stay home.

Then Sunday we'll probably go to church and do some shopping.

What does everyone else's weekend look like at this stage?

Kylie

Hi everyone,
I was amused to see on the posts, Good, morning, good afternoon - and now from me a very late Goodnight!

I'll get onto that work next week Gary, i've told myself that i will not be looking at another photo till then - i've had enough for this week for sure and i'm exhausted. I'll also send you my weekly photo roundup of hervey bay - go for a bike ride after church, have lunch, take photos, send them around to my brethren here and a couple to Canada and the US.

That's my Sunday taken care of Kylie. Saturday is my Great Catchup Day. Washing, Sweeping, look for my dining room table - it usually doubles as my horizontally orientated filing system. In the meantime i am checking and cleaning my computer of any nasties, but it is usually pretty good. Then i back up everything and am ready to start again next week.

What will you be using your scanner for Trish? I hope you haven't got a backlog of photos such as mine. OCR is pretty good once you get the hang of it.

Just had a good idea! I'm going to post a new album - "Flowers For Mother's Day". Then Marleneanne and Kylie can have a looksee and hopefully others too.

See you everyone,
Buddy

The album is a nice idea.

It is raining here at the moment...actually we have had a little bit of rain each day for the last week. Where my son lives just outside Toowoomba, at a place called Oakey, it is in desperate need of rain. Locals say it has never been this bad!

I am sure there will be lots of prayers for rain today in many churchs.

Hope you all enjoy this special day.

Hugs from Marleneann.

I am Californian but I have a special friend in Canberra, ACT I flew out to visit for the first time Dec. 2004. I met other people too (all from a Christian webpage...not CW)...visited Sydney (stayed with a Lady Barrister from the UK there)....Bathurst (to see one of the webpage friends get ascended from deacon to Anglican Priest)...Cowra (stayed with a Minister and his family from that same webpage) and then finally met special friend in Canberra, where I spent the rest of my time.

My impressions of Oz:
-BIG FLIES in Cowra
-small flies in Canberra
-friendly, open
-laughed and made Ah-nold jokes when I told them where I was from
-I learned "I'm right, you'll be right..." means "I'm fine...you'll be fine"
-vegemite is pretty good after you try it enough
-It rains buckets suddenly in Canberra and you are DOOMED without an umbrella!
-Conservative Christians there questioned my president's actions (here they pretty much seem not to)
-my accent is "not that strong" (whatever that means)

I have to say I loved all the places I visited. But Canberra was like one big walking park. And it had malls and museams.

I will lurk in here since I have fallen in love with Austalia...loved it and want to go back again someday.
