Chelle, some people get fertile-looking fluid right before their period begins. I don't think it's that abnormal!

Hello Christine,

I hope i can ask my question here. I had my baby last August, i am still breastfeeding and have not menstrated since then. a few days ago, i tought it was the begining of my cycle but the bleeding was insignificant, just few drops for about two days. is that normal or do i need to consult a gyn?

Any other person can help.

Thanks

Why do you think you 'need to wait'? I had 2nd degree tearing with my first daughter and I was pg again, through the Lord's good Grace when she was 11 months old.

Exclusively breastfeeding doesn't guarantee that you'll not ovulate before your cycles start up. Your fertility could be returning now or it could wait until after you've weaned your dear baby.

Mimi - I don't think you need to consult a gyn ... sounds like your cycles are starting back up again. I'm not sure I understand your second question - an episiotomy is a surgical procedure to enlarge your vagina during childbirth and is stitched up directly afterwards ... why would you need to wait to have another baby because of that?

Royal fortress, since it is the first experience, i thought my cycle will be as before, not just few drops for about two days. that is why i was wondering if everthing was ok.

for the second concern, after the episiotomy was carried out, i was torn right to the anus in course of pushing. so hubby suggests that we should wait for some time in order to minimise the risk of tearing again.

Mimi, I don't think you need to worry about waiting to get pregnant just because of an episiotomy. Your body should be healed already from the procedure. I had one too and would be fine if I got pregnant again (I had my baby in December).

Hmmm ... I'm pretty sure it isn't necessary to wait to get pregnant. You might want to talk to a doctor about that, though!

I just went to an introductory class for NFP. I am two weeks post partum and I'm going to start charting in the next day or so. I feel a little overwhelmed (but not flipping out about it or anything). I hope I can understand and chart correctly. We are using this as a means to avoid pregnancy for the time being and it really would not be good to have another "oops" experience (since all three of our children came about that way ).

I'm glad this thread is here. I will probably be utilizing it often for questions/suggestions/help.

As an encouragement, NFP worked for us at preventing pregnancy for a year before we stopped using it =) It really can and does work - as long as you're committed to not cheating

Welcome! We used it to avoid for 2.5 years.

2.5 years here, but we haven't tried getting pregnant, so for all I know one of us could be infertile.

Thank you for the welcome ladies. Yeah, about cheating.... that will be the trick! I was told to abstain until I get a handle on my charting, and well, though I haven't started charting yet we have cheated a couple of times. I have been "dry" so I know we are okay for now.

You can just use condoms. Are you doing NFP or FAM?

We haven't used FAM(we DO NOT abstain during my fertile time, we just use a barrier) to really seriously TTA, we used it nonchalantly until I got pregnant and now I am using it(although more of the billings method) in conjunction with hormonal bcp to make sure I'm not ovulating.

We are using the NFP Creighton Model FertilityCare System. And during my fertile times we will abstain; we don't want to use any form of contraceptive.

btw: What is the difference between NFP and FAM (what does FAM stand for?) The answer to that may change my reply above.

NFP is Natural Family Planning. And during fertile periods you use a barrier method. FAM is Fertility Awareness Method and you abstain totally during your fertile periods. I think I got that right. I guess, to be technical, we used NFP. Now while Nadia was still nursing a lot and I wasn't sleeping regularly, I mean I was sleeping, but getting up at different times and night feeding, I too did the billings method. Worked well for us.

No, it's the opposite. NFP is total abstaining during fertile time; FAM is using barrier or other ... activities ... during fertile time.

We're doing FAM.

You just have them backwards, Kathryn. NFP is abstinence during the fertile times and FAM uses a barrier.

Interesting. Why not just use a regular chart and TCOYF? Are you doing a class through church or something?

I went and read their website... It's amusing, like they have some patent on NFP

We do/did FAM because my level of desire is the highest during my fertile time and there is no way I want to miss out on that

LOL- we've been doing freestyle (no charting or anything) for a year or so (I think), and DH is starting to wonder the same thing.

Whoops. Well anyway, we did Fam. For the same reasons as Ryanne. Right now the cats out of the bag, so no worries either way! Hah!

Yeah, we used FAM, not NFP ... for the same reasons!! I think God's design is pretty good - we want it most when we're most fertile!
