No I have not but from what I heard from friends that have or do play the game is that it does not seem like that nice or wholesome of a game.
I am not sure people in this forum would know much about those types of games. You might want to ask this over in Computers and Tech.

there are a few of us... myself and elpenor have admited to it. and neruostatic and his wife hunter jumper.
I personally think that the artwork is wonderful, the music is great, and I like going on quests with my DH, he saves my little night elf bottom quite often.
There are other computer games I won't play; just too much gore. I am not into shear violence for violence sake.
One thing to beware of... it takes a while to complete some quests so be careful of time management. Keep priorities straight.
I think that there is another thread that asks about online games. Don't rememeber off hand where it is.

Yes, I play. Having not ever played any computer games before, I started with this one. It was just in short spurts at first.... Then I noticed an urge to ... just... finish... one... more... quest.
AND - its worse... *sniff*

Yes, it is really addictive and I have noticed our family's vocabulary has changed as a result.
Its amazing how time disappears when you're trying to get to Sun Rock from Crossroads....
I generally ignore chat (even turn it off at times). I have found that there are fewer adolescents in Horde (if you don't spend too much time in the Barrens).
We are not guild affiliated, so no attachments there - Main server right now is Thrall, but we are closet Alliance in Kul Tiras.

Or you could have a set up like Elpenor and I. We have side by side computers. It would be really hard if we had to take turns and he or I had to twiddled our thumbs waiting for the other to get off. This way if we are discussing Forums (yes, we talk about these all the time) or playing games or doing the budget or editing photos (my great time user upper) we are still here with each other.
This newbie is level 14 and learning how to keep her pet happy. DH has some very high level toons (except he looks like a girl ... tee hee)

Yep i play.... i have a lvl 60 night elf hunter.... and bunches of others... currently i am hunting with my DW she has a 14 hunter and i have a 14 druid.... its fun.... we will run into stuff and i will say help.... and i continue to fight... and by the time my sweet darling wife gets there i have killt the critter..... but she is fun to watch as she fusses.. hehehe
i have to say it is a blast to play with your wife next to ya... that way i can nibble on her neck while she is trying to solve a quest... heheehe... oh well i cant wait to get home and pester my wife again..... i hate being seperated from her.. i get grumpy

Selling the dusts from D/Eing has made my son quite a bit of gold.
Same thing for the other gathering profs. You just have to be patient and wait for the supplies to drop off in the AH and sell then.

I was going to bump this thread up today. For all of you who actually know something about the game, I wanted to tell you what I did with my Horde character yesterday.
We went for a ride on the Deeprun Tram from IronForge to Stormwind.
Note, I said my Horde character.
Edited to add:
My character is level 46. After we got on the tram, we rode it for 30 minutes just for the effect. It was fun jumping on the car with low level Alliance.

Here is what I know about World of Warcraft besides what I have read on this thread. (I have read the thread all the way through, by the way.)
Wrld of Warcraft offers eight playable races: Dwarves, Gnomes, Humans, Night Elves, Orcs, Tauren, Trolls, and Undead.

Ok, some WoW basics:
The game is set on two continents: Azeroth and Kalimdor.
There are two factions: Alliance and Horde.
While the Alliance mostly holds Azeroth, and the Horde mostly hold Kalimdor, there are disputed lands.
The Horde and the Alliance have an uneasy truce while fighting The Scourge, some other race.
There really is a story behind each of the races and the entire game mythos, though a complicated one.
The Alliance is composed of 4 races: Dwarves, Gnomes, Humans, and Night Elves.
The Horde is composed of 4 races: Orcs, Taurens, Trolls, and Undead.
With the expansion game coming out in November they will add Blood Elves to Horde and The Drenei' to Alliance.
There are goblins as well, but they are purely capitalists and are neutral, selling to anyone. They even have their own neutral cities controlled by the goblins where the two factions intermix freely (until there is a raid - another interesting part of the drama).
Each race can be some different class but not all classes are available to all races. The classes are: warrior, priest, druid, mage, hunter, shaman, warlock, rogue, and paladin.
I forget the details of who can be what, but I do remember that only humans and dwarves can be paladins, only night elves and taurens can be druids, and there are no Orc mages. There is more to this, but it is too early in the morning for me.
Now each player is not only a class, but can have up to two primary professions and can have all 3 secondary professions. The primary professions are: herbalism, mining, blacksmithing, engineering, tailoring, skinning, leatherworking, alchemy, and enchanting. The secondary professions are cooking, fishing, and first aid.
You take on these professions because in the game, your character needs to earn money. Just as in the real world, there is an economy, nothing comes free. You have to earn your living to buy food (yes eating is important) and water (yes that is important too). Additionally, though you can find gear randomly dropped from monsters and NPCs (non-playable characters - AI characters in the game), you will find that you need to buy other things.
There are vendors located in the capitol cities and most small towns. Some times the little encampments spread around the world have vendors, sometimes they don't. But it is important to know where to find the vendors that can also repair your items. Through battles and death (and yes you can die), your items will suffer damage. You have to pay to get it repaired.
As a side note, my little romp through an opposing factions two capitol cities on their "subway" cost me an arm and a leg so to speak. I died multiple times trying to do it and watched my items' durability go down 10% each time I died.
That brings up a good point. When you die, you have two options: take resurrection at the local graveyard, or find your body and resurrect. Either way you will have all your items, but there are consequences. If you resurrect at the graveyard, you will have "resurrection sickness", reducing all your capabilities to 25% of what you really can do AND all your items take a serious hit in their durability. Basically it means you wuss out and decide to just tailor some bags for a while until it goes away, or go exploring in one of the local towns.
So most people resurrect at their body. However, sometimes your corpse could be surrounded by bad things, like monsters, beasts, and if you are in PVP mode (player vs player) other players. You also rez with only half your health and half your mana (if you have a character that needs it = any class but warrior and rogue). So there are reasons why you would want to rez in different ways.
So the stories in the game propel you along through various quests. Some are meaningless, like go kill 10 wolves to prove your strength or talk to that guy 12 feet away for me because I am an NPC and can't move and you are a roaming character  . Other quests are integral to your class or the story and involve dealing some blow to an enemy or the other faction. And other times the quests are merely for profit.
Speaking of profit, there is an auction house where you auction items, raw materials, or stuff you create to the other players. You can bid on items or buy them out straight. Some game servers have really whacked out economies where the auction house prices are insanely elevated, while other servers have something a little more affordable. It just depends on the server.
The economy is based on gold, silver, and copper. Basically 100 copper is 1 silver. And 100 silver is 1 gold. It takes a long time to get that first gold and the items for the highest level characters can go for 20-100 gold. So it takes a lot of work for your character to earn the money to do things in the game.
This has just been a gloss over. There are many intricate parts to this story and game. I did not even discuss playability or anything. I just wanted to give an idea of the complex world of WoW. It is not just another "run and shoot" game.
We all like this game a lot. Perhaps too much
But it is a lot of fun and we enjoy having our characters help each other. Either by direct combat support, or in making items for each other. There are many ways to enjoy this game.

Just in case anyone actually reads this thread, I wanted to provide something about game play.
When you start playing, you begin in a newbie area as a level 1 whatever. Meaning, whatever race and class you chose when you created a character. You then begin doing quests to obtain experience points to get to higher levels or simply rewarded with money or items. Usually the quests involve some combat and as a result, you usually get money or items from the monsters and beasts you destroy.
Questing is the main driving force in the game. It is a free roaming world and you can just explore it. However, the different areas are inhabited by various levels of monsters and beasts. So you can only safely travel to areas that are just above your level and below. Try going into an level 50-ish area as a level 23 and you would quickly die. So questing to achieve higher levels is important.
However, one of my favorite things to do besides questing is specifically trying to get into areas that are way too high level for me. Its kind of a game of chicken, except I am the only chicken, the others are wolves, dragons, bears, or truly overpowering "things". So I think its fun to explore as a lower level. Yes, I die a lot doing that. But its still fun.

I'd say something, but I don't play WoW and don't plan to. I'd get totally hooked and I need to be spending less time at my computer, not more. Plus, I want to save up and get a Nintendo Wii...
I do read several web-comics that are either about MMORPGs or mention WoW on a regular basis. So I've picked up on a fair bit about the game from reading the gags and the associated artist blogs.

I've gotten off of it and not sure if I will go back on. I used too much free time for the game and let chores go around here. But it is very fun to play.

I played for 20 hours straight on a long weekend a few months ago. 
Actually I've teamed up with a Horde character a few times to get a quest done. Neither of us could go where we needed to. So I helped him out, then he helped me out. We worked our way completely through a troll area. Ah teamwork! 
It's like a Lay's Potatoe Chip. You can't finish just one more quest....
