I thought it might be interesting to share what we are reading. My current list is: Renewing Biblical Interpretation, Vol I ed by Bartholomew, Greene and Moller Turning Points: Decisive Moments in the History of Christianity by Mark A. Noll The New International Commentary on the New Testament: The Epistle to the Hebrews by F.F. Bruce.

I'm reading: The Damned and the Beautiful: American Youth in the 1920's by Paula S. Fass The Excellent Wife: A Biblical Perspective by Martha Peace Fascinating Womanhood by Helen Andelin Lord of the Flies by William Golding Bridge of San Luis Rey by Thornton Wilder Tales of the Unexpected by Roald Dahl Trumpeter of Krakow by Eric Kelly It may be a little weird [8D] but I like reading a lot of books at once. When I get bored with one, I can go back to it later while I read something else.

Right now I am going through the Narnia series once again.[8D] I am almost finished "The Voyage of the Dawntreader". I am also reading "The Ragmuffin Gospel" by Brennan Manning. The Next book on my list is "Monster" by Peretti

I am currently reading the last book of the Left Behind series. I have been working on it all year and have finally reached the end. I am also reading the Bible because I'm 24 and I've never read it! After I get done with The Glorious Appearing I plan to start reading the Chronicles of Narnia.

I am reading the most awesome book. It is an older book called The New Birth Order Book by Kevin Leman. It has been one of the most insightful books I've ever read. My husband is a first-born and this book explained him perfectly!!! I am a last born of 4 children, only girl in the family with 5 years difference between me and my closest brother. So, I am a last-born who tends to have some first born tendencies due to the gender difference and age difference. My son is a only-child and this book also explains him so well!!! I think this book will help me so much in my understanding and tolerance of my loved ones behavior. I have gotten so upset at hubby for reacting the way he does, but now I see that it is just his personality!! I keep thinking that he would be much more fun if he would get rid of his schedule. And he keeps thinking how can anyone have fun without a schedule????[:D] I have laughed so hard while reading this book it has brought me to tears! I recommend this book to everyone! It will make you much more tolerant of those around you. You finally realize that those who criticize you do not do it to be mean. They really think they are being helpful. But, sometimes they also need to learn when to back-off. Kevin also gives good ways to help people change some of their not-so-good behavior as well. I can't say enough good things about his book. Get it as soon as you can. I guarantee it will help you in all your relationships and especially with your spouse and children!!!

I am reading too many books at once. In the Bible, I am in Leviticus. The two daily devotionals I read are Secrets of the Vine Devotional by Bruce Wilkinson (it's about constant abiding in Christ) and A Life God Rewards Devotional (same author, this one is about living out as a servant of Christ) I just also started "Questioning Evangelism" by Randy Newman (about asking questions in conversations with non-believers). My seeking husband and I together are reading A Case for Faith by Lee Strobel

Right now I am in the middle of two books: 1. The Princes of Ireland (The Dublin Chronicles) by Edward Rutheford 2. 1776 by David McCullough I am enjoying both books very much however, I find the Princes of Ireland book easier to read since it is fiction. 1776 is taking much longer because I have to put it down every 10 pages to make sure I understand what I am reading. Go Figure. Kev.

I just finished TD Bunn's "The Lazarus Trap". It's a really good suspense story. I'm trying to decide between Ted Dekker's "Obsession", Frank Peretti's "Monster", or Donita Paul's "Dragonspell". I'm leaning towards Dragonspell because I already have a copy.

1776 will likely be my dad's father's day present. Seems like every time a holiday comes up for him, there is either a new David McCullough or Phillip Yancey book. Two of his favorite authors in their respective genres. Reading now - Shadow of the Giant by Orson Scott Card Just picked up: Loving God with All Your Mind by Elizabeth George

I just started skimming "Shout to the Lord." It's a book about the worship song by the same title. Someone from church saw it and thought I'd enjoy it, so they loaned it to me for a while... and now I feel obligated to read it. [sm=icon_smile_boggled.gif]

I'm still reading everything that's in my last entry for May. The only differences are that I've finished Eva Luna by Isabel Allende and I've started Pigs in Heaven, Barbara Kingsolver's continuation of The Bean Trees.

Stealing Jesus-How Fundamentalism betrays Christianity- Bruce Bawer. I'm a conservative evangelical and I think I fit into the fundamentalist catergory so I'm curious to see what he's saying..It's brought up a lot of questions for for every only a few pages. Are we living in the End Times? LaHaye and Jenkins The Church that Forgot Christ Jimmy Breslin (haven't started yet) One Nation Under Gods- A History of the Mormon Church by Richard abanes A God of Prophecy Lahaye I have them from them library for a month, and I'm sure they'll be read in two weeks ..lol

Auben, what did you think of Eva Luna? Zorro is the first Isabel Allende I think I've ever read, although I've seen some of her books in the Young Adult section while looking with my kids...and put them down after reading the back cover, since they seem to be pretty heavily into a combination of Native American/New Age spirituality. And she managed to work a lot of "spirituality" into Zorro as well, with Native Amerian spirituality while Diego is young (she makes his mother half-Native American in the book), Romny beliefs (occult stuff like palm reading) when Diego meets gypsies during his time in Spain as a teenager, and Voodo as he makes his way back into the Americas. There is some Christian stuff as well...I can't remember his name, but the priest that always figures prominently in Zorro stories (excpt for the Bandaris movies, which are about a different person becoming Zorro) comes into play before Diego is even born, with his parents.

Allende is heavy into the magical realism style that Gabriel M Marquez popularized. Life is part of a harshly corrupt yet magical (supernatural) world. It reminds me of reading Grimm's fairy tales sometimes, but with an added sense of the absurd. Personally, I prefer her short stories. I already have her The Stories of Eva Luna and I like it much more because its more story and less agenda. Her world view was strikingly clear in the novel. She does seem to regularly incorporate feminism, sex, racial equality, gov't and church corruption, and spirituality in her stuff. She is a wonderful storyteller with a good ear, but I would not recommend her as high school or younger reading.
