My favorite song by The Inspirations is the following: "There had to be a Rose to life & die among the Thorns." I work in Outside Garden at Home Depot, and every time i see a plant we sell called "A Crown of Thorns", I think about that song. I've used this plant to witness to people also.

"A Rose Among the Thorns" is one of my favorites by The Inspirations, too! Another one of my favorites is "You'll Never Know ('til It's Happened to You)" "No mortal tongue can e'er describe the Joy that Jesus gives, or how it feels down deep inside, when in your heart He lives. Even if I found the words, my Friend, to the story that could never end, You'll never know, 'til it's happened to you." The Inspirations always seem to pick songs with powerful lyrics.

I can agree with that, I always have loved that song. Another old one of theirs I listened to a million time was "The First Look" it paints a beautiful picture of heaven. My biggest problem is I LOVED all of their songs from the 70's thru the 80's. Makes it impossible to pick just 1 favorite. quote:

Those are great songs. And it is very hard to pick favorites. "It's Still the Blood" ranks up at the top with me. About a dozen or more others are up there too.

I guess my favorite Inspirations song from the early 80s would have to be "It Wasn't the Nails That Held Him There." It featured Jack Laws in some of his smoothest baritone singing ever! They re-did the song on their The Sooner, The Better album in 2000, but I think I like the original recording best.

I really love when they include a song that features Jack Laws on it. They were doing that on the last several cds, i cant remember if they did it on their latest one. It reminds me how the Kingsmen always used to let Eldridge Fox be featured on one song on all their new projects that came out, up till his strokes.

I agree. I especially like the fact that they shot a special of Jack Laws for the 40th Anniversary video. He got sick after it started and had to leave. That solo he did "I Cannot Find the Way Alone" is probably my favorite of the many great songs that he has done. They recorded it on a recent project with background music, but the acapella version seems much better to me. quote:

Just got "Praise God and Country" album off of ebay. Jack Laws does a great jog on "it wasn't the nails. I haven't decided which version that I really like best. The one on the Sooner the Better is the one that I heard first. quote:

The Inspirations are coming to my hometown in Jan. for their 30th year! They plan to do a reunion and make a video. I look forward to that. Now, if they don't schedule the Kingdom Heirs up the highway for the same night and make me have to sweat the decision Jason

ORIGINAL: JimC I love the Inspirations.. I've only seen them in person one time, which was last December, I think....they were in Gainesville with the McKameys, Primitive QT, etc.... I see they are going to be in Jasper, GA on 11/10.....it's Mike Holcomb's homecoming.... That's about an hour north of here. I'm going to do my best to be there...... I made it......It was a great concert.

I loved their reunion video, just can't figure out why Troy Burns wasn't there. It was a big void not having him on a reunion video.

When Troy Burns retired from The Inspirations, he really retired! He is a very busy man with his businesses. His son, Trey, is a real estate agent in Bryson City, and Troy is the construction manager for him. Mr. Burns also ran for public office a while back. He owns and operates a pizza parlor, too. I suppose he has a lot of "irons in the fire," as the old folks say!

While I would love to see a reunion that would include everyone (musicians too), I do understand that the men have lives. Sometimes it precludes them making an event. It would have been great to have seen Troy Burns at the 40th, obviously it couldn't be done. I don't know why he missed.

Yea, i think when they filmed that video, if Troy wasn't available , they should have waited and made it a day he could be there. I think he was too important to the group for him not to be there.

The logistics of getting that many people together at one time must be staggering. Especially when you consider getting a location that is suitable and the recording company. I imagine that they did the best that they could do.

All right. Now that I've heard my first recording with Dallas Rogers, let me jump on the bandwagon of the people who say that Dallas Rogers sounds like Archie Watkins. He'd make a great Inspirations tenor someday.

One hopes that it will be a long time before such has to happen. I know eventually Archie will retire, but he will be greatly missed.

I cannot think of any other tenor singer in S.g.music that has the longevity of Archie, and also with the same group, wow.

Unless you count Lilly Weatherford. She sings the tenor part. Jake Hess said she sings the tenor part the way a man ought to. (lol)
