My church, in conjunction with Mike Baker Promotions, hosted a singing last night, which featured a local group called The Haire Family. They, in turn, opened for The Whisnants, from North Carolina...They were awesome! It was the first I'd ever seen of them in concert, and they were truly uplifting and entertaining, as well as praiseful of the Name of Jesus!

What are some of the singings you guys/gals have attended in the last week or two? Just thought it would be nice to share!

Since the 28th of October I have been to the Halloween Alternative Concert in Winston Salem and last night I saw the Mike Bolwing Group. Tomorrow night I plan on seeing the Dills.

As I wrote under the thread of "Mike Bowling Group" it was OK. They do need to work on their program and pratice a little more, but God was there blessing in the concert. Kelly did not return for the second set as she was not feeling very well. Just having a baby on the 17th of October, and this being her second week out with them I am sure it is hard and easy to get tired. I do want to hear Amanda preach one day very soon. She sure impressed me in the little she had to say. There was also a man singing with them. I did not catch his name. If they came back into the area again I would go to see them. What problems they have can be taken care of with a little more pratice, and just singing together as a group.

My husband and I attended the Inspirations Fall Color Festival in October. This was the first time I had been to Bryson City since 1984, and I found the town as charming as ever. I first saw the Inspirations in the early 1970s, and attended my first concert in Bryson City in 1974 at Inspiration Park. Friday night was absolutely awesome with the McKameys and the Inspirations! We were somewhat disappointed in the line-up for Saturday, but fell in love with the Chuck Wagon Gang. We love the old songs. The Inspirations reunion was very good also. Missed seeing Troy.

Dinana, my husband and I attended a Voices Won "homecoming" concert in Dalton, GA last night. Voices Won is a mostly-local group (trio) and we enjoyed them greatly. I have been pleasantly surprised many times lately at the caliber of local and regional groups.

Mark Bishop was there and he was teriffic. He seems to be soooo comfortable with the audience and his music--all written by him, is extraordinary. And many of his songs are humorous. I particularly like the way he does his song about "bottled water." If you haven't heard it, it's a treat!

And Brian Free & Assurance was there. It was the first time I had heard them live and I really enjoyed them. I don't listen to BF&A often because I'm really not much of a high tenor fan (Dinana will tell you THAT'S the understatement of the year!). But they were very good and it was a treat to "meet" the entire group.

Very good concert. And Voices Won are going to be at a local concert here in Acworth, GA next Saturday night and I'll get to see them again.

Oh, my!!! I'm surprised a fan with your name would miss a joint concert with L5 and GV !! That's really a shame. I LOVE their joint concerts. We have one in Marietta every year on the first Friday of January. It's where L5 made its debut appearance in 2000.

Do you like either John Rulapaugh or Eric Phillips? Their voice qualities in the medium high range (high lead, low tenor) are two of the nicest I've ever heard.

See GVfan, I've always said BF&A are the best!

Along with Daniel's 2, here are some other tenor's you're sure to love:
-Jerry Martin
-David Sutton
-Steve Ladd

GVfan, just so you know, Tyler is kidding. There's a chance you might like David Sutton, though. Even though (like Eric Phillips) he can go high, he has a voice quality sufficiently different from that of the high, thin tenors that you might like his voice anyhow.

GVfan does like David Sutton - although not nearly as much as I do!! She's heard him with Triumphant several times. I'm still trying to get her to a Gold City concert so she can hear Steve Ladd, but her schedule is even busier than mine!!! She has heard Eric Phillips at least once but she's not going to be able to go with me tonight to see MTT.

I've heard Eric and liked him just fine. I haven't heard John Rulapaugh yet. And, yes, I do like David Sutton with Triumphant probably the best of all high tenors. I'm crazy about Jason Waldroup, but I consider him to be a low tenor. I especially like it when he sings "low". He's got beautiful tone on the lower notes.

I'm watching the Tony Peace Hour on TV right now and the Booth Brothers are singing. I like Michael Booth's version of tenor, too!

Additional Note: I forgot-----I also like Brent Mitchell with Mercy's Mark! He can go really high, but I like him best on the medium to low tenor as well! Oh, and I like Frank Seamans with Legacy Five.

I guess I just didn't know what I was talking about when I said I didn't like high tenors!!!!!!!

I'm calling it a weekend, for three reasons:
1. I saw them in Hiawassee a few weeks ago
2. They will be at Sharon Baptist in Smyrna on 12/7 and again in Villa Rica on 12/31
3. I'm TIRED. <g>

You get to see MTT tonight! I would be jealous, except that I've gotten used to never having my favorite groups come anywhere near but once every several years!

Could you please do one thing for me, if you notice this before you go: I'd love to know whether they do any material from their new CD that they recorded vocals for this week. If they introduce a song as a brand-new song, or if it sounds quite unfamiliar and they act like they're still learning it, I'd love to hear about it.

I forgot about the upcoming new CD........
No matter, I'll have to wait til 12/7 to see MTT again.....

Daniel,
Are you planning to go see the BB's this month. - Sounds like maybe - just maybe their NEW CD will be with them on the Ohio Trip.

No; they're only in Ohio this week, and all of the concerts are on the other side of the state. (And Ohio is a BIG state--these concerts are 3 to 4 or more hours away). Plus, I unfortunately have other things going.

Well I saw the Booth Brothers tonight!!! First, let me say they were very good. The concert flowed smoothly and had a mixture of a lot of classic BB songs, a few new BB songs, Mike Booth comedy, and some very serious, emotion-stirring situations like when Mike talked about 2 of his inlaws passing away and how an unsaved family member was really struggling with the deaths, and how we as Christians can have a different hope and peace. It was actually one of the only concerts I've ever been to that the sound wasn't loud enough. Sure, I was in the back, but usually SG concerts rock your socks! The blend could be better, IMO, if they'd bump the sound up just a notch. They did sing mostly older classics like "Look For Me At Jesus Feet," "Feeling Mighty Fine," "Through It All," and others. I think the combination of classics with toned-down sound/music appealed well to the older folks (which was most of em ), but I and my buddies could've stood a few more new songs, but that's ok. We're the minority!!

But like I said, the concert was GREAT!! I'm becoming a full-fledged BB fan and I came away VERY blessed. The song "If We Never Meet Again" brought tears to my eyes, and I could really appreciate their willingness to sing older songs along without blaring everyone's ears. Overall, a WONDERFUL experience! I think Daniel Mount would've found a new appreciation for the Booths if he'd been there tonight!!

Just wanted to let you know that you really did miss a great concert last night in Hazel Park, MI !! It was a G-R-E-A-T concert as I am sure you know anytime these two groups get together. So good and they sang mostly the old songs, which is what I prefer!

At the end of the concert, both groups were standing up and singing some good songs and I whispered to my daughter that to just look at all of them, their faces just glow and shine. That tells me that they really believe in what they are singing about.

Anyways, just wanted to let you know that you really missed an awesome concert!

It's not often that the groups come up this far so I try to go when a SG group is appearing around here.
