Chelsea, I have something similar to a mei tai (but with much wider straps) and it is great for carrying on the back. The one difficulty I have had is making sure I get it pulled all the way up so that he can't lunge. At this point I still really need dh's help to make sure Biruk's secure in it.

Maggie.... I lean over and make my kids lay down on my back, then tighten it so that it is properly tight and they can't fall off. Then when I stand back up adjust the straps on the shoulders so they are in the right place.

Are all the commercially available Moby wraps double layered?
We are going to the Farmers Market tomorrow and I may get hubby to go to the great Maternity/Nursing store out near there to look at a few things. Nursing bra's being #1 priority and wraps second. I am really leaning towards Moby simply for the comfort and many ways to use it. And that I think I could get Jer to use it and not feel weird. Having pictures of manly man Paul help alot Sarah, so thanks for those!!!

The OFFICIAL MOBY WRAP is double layered...I am not sure about any of the other ones similar to it.

Tammy it's on the list if we ever make it over there.
We went to Market and had breakfast in the drizzles, got the few things we were looking for and since Jer was being such a grump I had enough and asked to come home. May try again later. Or next weekend. He's still got this chest thing and it's making him way grumpy and a bear to live with.

Okay, I am wanting to get the stuff to make my Ka'tan soon. Ryanne, you said you made yours, did you have a pattern or just "figured it out". It doesnt look too hard, but can you point me down the right path as far as yardages goes? I was looking on the website and it has the main part then a "sash" right? What is the purpose of that part?

DIYer's- what did you make your Moby from? I made one for me out of jersey knit, but it took 4 stores and 3 states to find a 6 yard piece and a friend who wants to make one is a little taller and a little bigger around (maybe size 10/12?, not really big as much as larger frame). I'm wondering what materials I can recommend to her since her new one (#3) is much needier as far as needing held and she has two others and a house to care for- any insight?

Erin, sorry I missed this! I just kinda figured it out based on the pictures and the sash basically helps hold the baby secure in certain positions.

Can someone help me with the side/hip tie with the Moby? I looked at the directions online, but I think it's missing a step. We're going to the zoo this weekend, and Jimmy doesn't like being in the stroller for long periods of time.

I priced jersey knit material, and found that the online price ($35 is what I paid for mine) of buying the real thing was worth it to me. HERE is the ebay sales of them right now....lots of them for very cheap.

I hold the baby on the side (I usually hold him on the left side)......then drape the moby over my left shoulder and behind baby down to my knee in the front. On the back, go across my back to the right hip...then around my waist and around baby's bottom. Then back around again, ending in the front where I tie it off.
If I am switching him from the front hold to the side hold without taking him off, I do this.....Take my right arm out of the shoulder part (put it down at my waist). Move baby to my left side adjusting the straps a little... and tighten as necessary.

Our Walmart has Jersey knit on the $1 yard rack alot. (while they still have a fabric section that is...that's about to change, but anyway.......)

I looked on the Moby website, and can't seem to find what I am looking for, but I am looking at a Moby D secondhand, and I don't know what the difference is.
She's asking $40 and that seems like a lot...isn't that full price?

no, that's not full price for the Moby D...the full price for a new one of that kind is about $60......it is fancier then the original Moby (has a decorative panel in front)....but the way I tie mine I wouldn't want the Moby D anyway because it would look weird.

It also says it's shorter, which might not work for me. It's really nice though, it has a dragon print and it's a beautiful blue colour.

yeah...when or IF my sewing machine can get fixed. I will tell you that story in just a minute.....
I prefer the Moby....for newborns esp. It keeps them so snuggly and Jack loved it!!! I have tried slings, and hated them. The one biggie for me is back support...I have a bad back (from my first epidural being put in too high) so I have to have good support on my back.
ok...my machine right now. Well, hubby took it to the shop...on a saturday. The guy said he would get to it the next week and let us know. He didn't..we called back the next saturday and he said he didn't look at it yet. After another week he said he finally looked at it, and needed to find out if we wanted him to order the part (well DUH!!! WHY would we put it in if we didn't want it FIXED!!!!). So then he told us that would take 3-4 weeks to come in....so since he wasn't known for letting us know anything we didn't think much of him not calling for a month. Hubby called back....it seems that's the OLD owner of that store, and the new ones don't do my machine. They had taken over three days after this guy said he was ordering the part for us!!! So it sat there with NO ONE calling us to tell us this for nearly a month!!!! The new owners don't do my brand, and the closest shop is OKC, an hour and a half away. They won't ship it there because we have to have the original packaging and box...we have the original box, but not the cardboard from the inside of the box. SOoooo....now that's where we are. I told hubby if we can't get this figured out in the next two months then I am going to buy a new machine...this is ridiculous!!!

Kim, with the cost of our shipping it might not be that big a difference if you just buy it locally.
ETA- The shipping is roughly $65 within the US, so it's not that much of a difference.

that's what Paul is going to try to do next.
I have not made it, but I can give you specific dimensions and sizes if you want to try to make it yourself...it would be easy if you can find the material, cause it doesn't ravel, it just rolls up on the edges, so no sewing needed unless you wanted two layers of material (the official one is two layers)

I'll keep that in mind!! My mom is getting a brand new machine (picking it up on Friday) so I know she'd love to practice on some stuff! If I can find a place with jersey knit fabric for a decent price, I'll ask for the pattern! (unless you've got the numbers handy, and then I'll just copy them into a .txt file for later use!)

The prices for ordering the Moby/Moby D in Canada are OUTRAGEOUS!! The cheapest I've seen is around $50 PLUS shipping!! 
- whenever I choose the fabric - and you need a new sewing machine, right) ... but which did you recommend for a newborn?
(it might be quicker!!! LOL) 
back to Babywearing ... LOL
I was hoping I could find it for a cheaper price here, but alas!!
