Just a word of caution Emily.. I've heard from several babywearing people, instructors even at the sling clinic I went to, that small infants should not be in Baby Bjorns until 3 months of age. They feel their hips are not ready to be splayed open as needed, they need to stay tucked into fetal position when in a carrier/sling.
But it is up to each parent as to what they feel comfortable using and when.
Here is a great article and different types of carriers and what to watch for with spinal stress:
What I have found to be the ideal carrier is the sling. There are many variations of the sling, but one should look for the following in any type of carrier:
1. Before an infant can hold her head on her own, the carrier should support the neck. A sling cradles the infant just like your arms would, unlike vertical carriers which can actually allow a whiplash type injury.
2. The carrier should not place the infant's spine in a weight bearing position too early. (The young baby should be horizontal or inclined, with the spine supported along its length.)
3. When a baby wants to be more upright to see the world around him (usually around age 4 to 5 months), the carrier should allow him to sit cross-legged, so his weight is dissipated through his legs and hips, as opposed to the style that has the legs hanging down, where the young spine has to bear the entire weight.

I don't want an actual Baby Bjorn, just a carrier like it. I'm not sure what they are called. I won't use it yet, but he HATES slings and I need something to carry him in. He does not sleep during the day and he cries when I put him down. I get nothing done because I am holding him all day long.

There are Mei Tei's, Soft Structured Carries, Chunies, Half buckles, full buckles, etc... What exactly are you looking for?

I know what a Mei Tei is, but I have no idea what the others you mentioned are. I'm not even sure what I am looking for. I just need something that is easy to use that he won't hate being in.

I would recommend a babywearing group, then you can try some carriers out with him in them before dropping $100+ on one.

there are not any in my area. the LLL had a baby wearing meeting but everyone had slings or wraps.

I have a mama's milk sling but I can't seem to get him in a good position in it. He is big and awkward for me to move around in the sling.

At our current church, there are several baby-wearing women. On Sunday, both our singers on our worship team were wearing their babies. It was so cute.

That is a Soft Structured Carrier... Seems nice, but I haven't seen any reviews on TBW of it... How tall is the body? Not a bad price either.

My mom wants something to buy for the baby and I think we're set for clothes and equipment. I did think that with all Brian's appointments, a pouch sling might be nice instead of putting the Moby on every time. I think I might be able to nurse in a pouch sling easier than the Moby too.
BUT...I had a ring sling once and HATED it. I know a pouch sling is different, but those who have used either sling, what do you think? Also what specific pouch sling did you like best? I'm looking at the New Native and the Peanut shell ones.

But it's VERY high humidity here (feels like it's over 105+), so it gets hot super quick when we're wearing Gwen!
