I have a DMC FZ10 which is about a 5 year old digital camera, but it takes GREAT pics and video for it's age! (Daniel and Sony, you should know! ) It is what I used to get the videos for our SG intros. I have yet to try it in a concert setting. I should have opportunity later this month.

You got those pictures in the 4th row from the back? Wow, that camera is good!

Imagine if I had actually had good seats... I coulda gotten their nose hairs.

That camera has settings for portrait, landscape, landscape & portrait, sport, night scene, night & portrait, indoor, candle, self portrait, available light, sunset, fireworks, cuisine, behind glass, documents, auction, Shoot & select 1, shoot & select 2, beach, snow, under water wide 1, under water wide 2, and under water macro. Additionally, I can select macro for up close pictures. I can tell it to make a pic brighter or darker and I can do all manual settings like a regular SLR too. It has image stabilization to help take the blur out. It can track so if what you are taking a picture of moves, it stays in focus. It has video with sound in multiple sizes and it will track focus as you zoom in and out while shooting. There is a cheaper model with less optical zoom, but mine has a wider optical. Even so, I can still add on an additional lens attachment that will give me like 24 optical, or something like that. It also has digital zoom besides.

Here's the spec from the website. They have 2 upgrades since last year so now the price has come way down. http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/product.asp?product=1289

Key feature:

"Dual Image Stabilization eliminates blur."

Now I like that!

Nevermind. I see that they're a little different than the ones my camera takes.

It takes this kind. http://cgi.ebay.com/Olympus-2GB-xD-Picture-Card-Memory-Type-M-2-GB-G-Camera_W0QQitemZ350043897686QQihZ022QQcategoryZ43477QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The only caution I have on them is when you buy memory, get the Fuji kind rather than the Olympus. I have had trouble with the Olympus memory cards going bad, but never the Fuji.

Sheesh! The camera I have I can hardly find but one or two on ebay! But I sure can find parts! Think it's time to upgrade?

What I like about my camera that the Olympus doesn't offer is mine has rechargeable batteries. Looks like it takes 4 AA batteries for the Olympus. Guess you could always go Energizer rechargeable, huh?

Mine has rechargeables too (rechargeable AAs... Not sure if the Enegergizers work, though I guess they would), but you can also use AA. It doesn't eat them up like my smaller digital camera does. You actually do get a lot of pictures on a batch of batteries before you need to recharge or replace.

Oh so they are specially made by and for the camera and rechargeable? Not bad! I will definitely keep this camera in mind when I can afford to upgrade!

When did these first come out?

Does anybody still use cameras that you put the film in? those are getting to be a thing of the past. Not only do i still have my 35 mm camera like that, i still have my C-110 camera. Do any of you guys remember that, 110 film? then i used to have a Kodak Disc Camera, that goes back a few years.

I don't think that 110 film has been made for years.

Have any of you had the night-time setting work without a tri-pod?

They do make unipods and the unipod and your two legs can make a tri-pod, but you have to be standing to get the full benefit of the technique.

Low light shooting is very tricky and it is dependend on the capabilities of the camera. The camera needs to have the capability to work at a setting of 1600 ASA or more. The trade off of a high ASA setting is grainer pictures with film and more noise with digital.

The wider the lens is able to open the better. An f-stop of 1.8 is preferred. However, most point and shoots do not go wider that 3.5 at the most.

The cheapest solution would be a film camera shooting film 400 ASA or higher and a 1.8 lens. That would proably be a 50mm lens which would not allow close-ups.

I don't know if these are specifically for just this camera or if other cameras use them too. I assume so. They say they are Nickel Metal Hydride batteries. Perhaps someone more familiar with batteries or cameras can answer that one. But they do work great and last a nice, long time. I charged them before this past weekend and had some old Duracells in. Never had to put them in though. The Duracells are still good.

Think my the version of my camera I have may be out a couple years. Not sure.

Hey Daniel. You saw my pics from last weekend. I was sitting 4th row from the back of the auditorium. I have an Olympus SP-55OUZ. It is 7.1 megapixels. 18X Optical Zoom and the lens can be extended even further than that. When I bought it last year, it was around $500. If that's too steep, you maybe can wait until Christmas sales hit and pick one up cheaper.

Before the show starts I do test runs from my seat to see what setting works best. I usually use either sport, available light, or candle. Sport tends to be really grainy though. For SG artists, the motion wasn't too bad. That night I used the Candle setting. Also, as you saw I got pics of the screen. You can get great close-ups that way too.

Did you post your pictures here on the forums somewhere?

Daniel,
It looks like you're using a Kodak Disc camera...circa 1984! I owned one at one time, I'm ashamed to say... :o)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disc_film

Seriously, it's your camera...point and shoots don't cut it for concert photos...never have and probably never will.

Edit: Err...sorry, I didn't notice that the first page of this thread was over a year old. I was referring to your original photos, if you didn't figure that out by now.

They were great in concert. I just wish I had gotten the opportunity to talk to them. It was just so crowded that I was barely acknowledged.

You guessed the brand right, but not the year. It was a Kodak EasyShare, made in 2006, I believe.

That particular camera is a moot point, though, since it died after I'd had it for one year three days. You guessed it--it had a one-year warranty.

So if they live beyond their warranty we should be suprised?

A little off topic, but I had a microwave that I really liked for a little over five years then it died. And, guess what? it had a 5 year warranty. It's like they implant a device to self-destruct the device after the warranty expires.

Generally speaking I do not take photos at concerts. And I have never been one to have my photo taken with the artist. Although I did have my photo taken a couple of weeks ago with Aaron Wilburn.

I take some pictures at concerts. Used to be really bad about it, but I had taken so many, I quite for a couple of years. I started back this year taking a very few at concerts. I like to look back at the groups and see the changes they make. I have a digital camera which I was using but I still like my 35mm film camera better. Using the fast speed with the lights that are low still gives fair pictures.

BTW I have over 32 one inch notebooks full of pictures and a lot that I haven't put in notebooks. They are all in alphabetical order by groups.
When I get old and can't drive to concerts to see the groups, I'll play their cd's and look at their pictures in the books.

I've tried several different cameras. I got a new HD Kodak camera for christmas..thought it would be wonderful. It went back because the photos were horrible. I just bought a new one earlier this past week and we just went to a show Friday night. I have to say this camera is one of the best for photos at shows. Here are the pics from Friday night http://heatherranah.myphotoalbum.com/view_album.php?set_albumName=album71 there's 4 pages and we were about 7th-8th row back. Like everyone has already said..flash off. This is a Canon PowerShot SX100IS 8MP. I got it at sams club.

Hope that helps some. It also helps I've noticed if your straight on and not on the sides. My other camera was really good if you were straight, but didnt do that great from the sides. Lighting is different I suppose.
