Mmm. Chinese sounds so yummy!

I think I'm going to make bbq beef tonight! It sounds delish, and I still have time to throw it in the crockpot.

I'm excited to have some new recipes soon. My Mother's Day gift is mini-books about life and eating during different periods in America's past. I have two mini-books already, focusing on the civil war period (one book about life in the North, one about life in the South). Of course, they're complete with recipes and all (some recipes are adjusted for modern ingredients). I should be getting in the mail soon:

Colonial Christmas Cooking
At the Table in Colonial America
German Cooking in America
That Palace in Washington: Entertaining at the White House 1800-1850
Victoria Parlors & Tea Parties
Victorian Christmas Celebrations

They should be a good read, if nothing else.

Those kinds of cookbooks are SO interesting. My mom has some really old ones. My MIL has hubby's great-grandmother's recipe box, which includes a large collection of newspaper clippings starting from the 1890s, all recipes and home remedies. They are so interesting to read!!!

This morning I announced to the family that I am not cooking today. I do not care about fancy; I just don't want to cook. Between my husband and eldest daughter, they should be able to come up with something yummy.

Tonight I'll probably make NOTHING.

Kevin's work is having a birthday lunch for him; when he does that, he doesn't eat supper.

I'm going out to lunch with some ladies today. I will probably eat supper, but not much.
