Hi Marsha. I'm sorry to hear about Don being so sick. Sure hope he gets better quickly. It'ts been nice here today & yesterday, too. I wish it woudl stay like this for awhile, but it's supposed to rain again tomorrow. I'm reading a Christian novel/love story a friend loaned me -- a girl in her church wrote it. It's ok, but may go on to something a bit livelier soon. I've read some of Screwtape Letters several years ago. It was pretty good, and as you said, funny if it weren't so true.

I'm reading Gone With The Wind for the third time, and I'm getting a lot more out of it. I don't think it condones Scarlett's mental aduletry so much as it shows how it, plus her greed, destroys her.

I'm reading "The Bluest Eye" by Toni Morrison. It's interesting. I spent $80 at Borders this weekend with my family. I have a lot to read now.

I'm sort of re-reading Like Silver Refined, by Kay Arthur. It's an excellent book about embracing life's disappointments. I'm just having trouble getting getting back the discipline of reading. It's easier to veg in front of the box. Saw Don. He's holding his own.

I agree Marsha. It's way to easy to turn the TV on than pick up a book. I've had to force myself to read. And even then I have a hard time with it.

Hi Marsha! I'm sorry you've been feeling so discouraged lately. The books I'm reading are: - God's Grace and the Homosexual Next Door by Alan Chambers (It's for Christians who want to know how to relate to and witness to the homosexuals in their lives--some really good stuff in there.)
- Desiring God by John Piper (We need to pursue happiness for ourselves and our greatest happiness comes by pursuing God's happiness, which we do when we bring him glory.)
- The Freedom from Depression Workbook by Les Carter and Frank Minirth (an excellent book which I bought back in 2001 when a group of us here in CW decided to work through our depression issues together. We never finished and I never finished the book. I'm trying to now.)
- Laughing in the Dark: A Comedian's Journey through Depression by Chonda Pierce. (This is not only fun to read but informative as well.)

How am I? l'm menapausal, tired, for no reason...sleepy, because I woke up too many times last night. Contrary to what my gyn thought, blood test showed my estrogen is a little low; not enough to justify HRT. He's done with me for another year. My evening aide called off tonight. My regular aide is back, hopefully until at least for six months. We went thru' some bags that my sister brought. more

The last 20 years seem like five. It can't be 20 years ago that I gave birth to my first son. Most of my life is behind me now. Although there were disappointments in my marriage, being a mother is awesome, even now that they're mostly grown. I gave Nathan free rent for April as a birthday gift. He went shopping yesterday and showed me his new clothes. He had long hair, but yesterday he got it cut quiet short. Both boys---er--young men left this morning for the brothers' retreat in PA. They'll be back on Sunday evening. Prayers for their safety, please. It's really strange being home alone. My aide will be here soon to help me get to bed. I have a 3 hour long dvd of Law and Order: SVU that I'll probably watch. Another aide in the morn.

{{{{{{{{MARSHA}}}}}}}}}} I've been wondering a lot lately where the time went . . . how did I get here from the young, married naivete I was just -- well, it seems such a short few months ago That is so wonderful he was able to get new clothes, a new haircut and the young men are off to a brothers retreat, tho! I've never heard of such, but what a great idea! I hope you enjoy your quiet time at home, and the DVD. I went to St Louis yesterday morning, and came back this afternoon. The granddaughters are growing up so very fast, and I find I can hardly bear to think about them as teenagers, let alone college kids, leaving home for the first time. How would we bear this were it not for the promise of eternal life with him . . a better life, free of pain and disease and loss, free of never having to say goodbye -- not to dreams or places or people

It really is weird to realize I've lived over half my life, but I haven't yet celebrated my 6th wedding anniversary. No matter how long I live, I will have been single most of my life. Bizzare, huh?

I've often wondered how people go on in old age, knowing any day could be their last. Do they not think about it. If the cp doesn't get in the way, indirectly, and if I stay at a manageable weight, I could easily live another 30 years. Or I could weaken fast. God only knows. Do you ever wonder, what if our faith is wrong and we just cease to exist?

I can't say I've never wondered that, Marsha, but if that were the case, creation and everything we know just wouldn't make any sense -- like HOW did we get here?? When I go so far as to reason with myself, would life be easier to live if this were the truth, and I knew it to be the truth?? No. In fact, it would be impossible. We think the world is evil now, but if we could let our imaginations go for just a few short seconds and try to imagine what it would be like if there were no one with any sense of right & wrong -- if there was no one to hold us in check. I can only stand to think about that for a very, very short time . . it's scary. No, in all reasonableness, trying to put aside my faith & all I've learned from the Bible and/or church, I can't believe that this world could exist without a loving God. As far as how ppl go on in old age, I think a lot of it depends on having a purpose . . . for many of us, our kids or our spouses give us that purpose. For others, it may come from their work, their church -- or simply God himself. Whereever it comes from, I do believe it's vital to our being able to get out of bed in the morning and doing what must be done to live life.

Oh, yeah, the Christian faith, practiced faithfully, brings peace, order and meaning to life as we know it. Those who want instant gratification won't admit or can't see it, though. When you 80, tho', what do you think makes folksj wake up and wonder, is this the day I'm going to die? Or do they,, like we , assume they have another 20 years?

I have a close friend who's 90. She says often she knows she can't live much longer, and I know her life has become boring for her since her family moved her far away from all her church friends. I've let my kids know how very much that would upset me if they chose to do that. I mean, if I've always lived close to my kids, and we've grown used to being each others' companions, that's one thing, but if I have a life separate from them with my church friends (which I DO), etc., then I'd want to remain in close proximity to them for as long as I can. But this lady still seemed to find purpose for her life when she was 87 and lived here near us. She's the one I've talked about who came out here and ironed for me, helped me sew, etc. She was a wonderful friend to me -- kinda like a surrogate mom, and I miss her immensely.

I feel much like I felt before I married and had children; that's kind of eerie to me. I wasn't planning on going there again. With Don so disabled and sickly and living elsewhere now, and both boys at the age when Mom takes a backseat, I find myself with time on my hands. Too much time to think. Not much to look forward to, really. My sister's life is full and busy without me. What friends I have are still very involved with their own families. My speech problems just isolates me so much. In my youth, the university was always there for me, to some degree. It's just not easy being me.

Hi Marsha, everybody. (((((((((((((((((((((((MARSHA)))))))))))))))))))))))))) Even though I'm not old, (I just turned 39), I sometimes wonder what it would be like if my health shortened my life. I have some medical problems that could do that. Not that I'm planning on going anywhere any time soon.

55 isn't that old, normally. If I take of myself, I might have 20-30 years ahead of me. Trish, I'm praying your health issues get under control soon.

It's nice and sunny. Tomorrow, I'm going to get myself out to the library. I don"t want to go spend money at the stores, since I don't need anything. The cost of gas has made everything so expensive.
