Leaving at the intermission is like buying 1/2 a Coke at the concession stand, especially if you bought a ticket. Better, it's like leaving church right before the preaching.

I don't leave a ball game until the clock says 0:00 either, my team winning or losing.

What musicnerd said.

Why would anyone want to leave at intermission. You know what people say. They always save the best for last....

I ALWAYS stay until the end of the concert. You never know what you'll be missing by leaving early. I've gotten some of my best blessings by staying until the end! Plus, you've paid for all that singing, so why not enjoy it!

I agree with musicnerd! Leaving during intermission is like leaving church before the preaching. I've been to a number of concerts, and 90% of the time, the finale after the intermission is the best part of the evening. I wouldn't dream of leaving before the best part of the evening. One time I saw GV and L5 and after intermission the 2 groups did some songs together and it had us going wild! I had a 3, 1/2 hr. drive home and it was getting late, but who cares? You couldn't have paid me to leave before a moment like that!

I've seen this same fan apathy at NQC. People just up and leave at 10:30 until the end of the night. Some people leave on Saturday night 2 or 3 hours before the grand finale hit parade. I'm astounded that someone would come that far to see some good gospel music and then totally skip hours of top-rate groups and a finale. I guess they're not die-hard...

It is very disappointing for the MC to say "come back for the second half", wait 30 minutes, and the "second half" is three songs.

One thing I have discovered, once you take a break in your set, to the audience mind, they're thinking "Well, it's almost over". So the last thing I want to do is come back on and go another 45 minutes or an hour (wearing out my welcome in the process). I usually do most of my concert, take a break for intermission or love offering, then my second set may only be two or three songs plus whatever testimony I decide to give.

There is NO EXCUSE for ANYONE to EVER leave during an invitation. I firmly believe that such can be a distraction to someone who may be seriously considering making a decision. If you've made it through the whole program, surely you can stay for the last few minutes during which God might do something eternal in someone's life...

As a performer, and as all of you other singers can testify, intermission is a "voice break" for the singers.

I agree, but isn't it odd that only Christian singers are this wimpy? You won't find an intermission at a rock or country concert!

You don't have too many men in secular music blowing a G above high C on every third song.

Well, not anymore, but back in the day of vocalists such as Journey's Steve Perry, it was a different story. Some truly phenomenal, freak of nature vocalists (which, let's be honest, not many in ANY genre could hang with for long), doing 2 1/2 or 3 hr shows every night with no break....that's gotta hurt!

Sure R&R singers take breaks. That's why there's drum solos, guitar solos, and whatever other junk they do. Anyone who's seen the Def Leppard Behind the Music knows what I mean. (Draw your own conclusions, leaving it at that...)

Most of the concerts I attend are a couple of hours drive away, so I often leave at intermission. I wouldn't mind staying longer for more singing, but I hate to wait through a 15 minute intermission (which often turns in to 25 minutes) just to get 30 more minutes of singing. I would rather go straight through without any intermission, but I know lots of people get tired without a break.

I have left after intermission, at concerts by certain promoters where I have been disappointed by the "after intermission" portion.

It is very disappointing for the MC to say "come back for the second half", wait 30 minutes, and the "second half" is three songs.

I agree Kerr. I hate to sit through a 20-30 minute intermission and have them say "We have some surprises after the intermission" and all they do is all the singers sing one song together and end it.

I believe that the groups want an intermission because it gives them a chance to sell their CD's. I remember hearing about a well known group singer who was extremely angry because his group was slated to sing after the intermission and not before. That took away their chance to feature their new songs that were on the new product before the intermission, thus hurting their sales.

Most of the time I leave because, if three or four groups are on the set I am usually sung out by the intermission. I realize that is a hot selling time for product but the concert loses something during the intermission.

Just my opinion

I almost always stay for the end of the concert unless I have an overwhelming reason to leave or if the concert is running very, very late. I've been to concerts where more than half of the people left at intermission and I felt really bad for the singers trying to sing after that. I really prefer concerts with only one group (or maybe two) that don't take intermission at all.

The Ball Brothers didn't the other night. They took one song off while the choir did a song, then they joined the choir for "Mercy Said No," and finally they came back for the rest of their set.

Seriously, I do stay all the way thru until a short time after (I usually have to take my concert-going buddies home, then an early morning myself ) but why leave when you paid for the tickets? Get your money's worth! I only stay a little after for photos at the product table or whiles they be disassembling the stage setup.

Actually, in that case, it was the guitarists who "took a break" shall we say. Lead singer Joe Elliott and drummer Rick Allen stayed onstage.

But, yeah, I see your point.....

The only times I would consider leaving at the intermission are 1) I'm not enjoying the group(s) or 2) we have a 3-4 hour travel time to get back home.

Well, I guess I've changed a little since I originally wrote this! I would not add .... 3) if a "local" group that I didn't particularly like starts another set after intermission. I've been to too many concerts where the "locals" are given nearly as much time as the big names, so if they also start off after intermission, I'm outta there!

We rarely leave at intermission. We left the other night at Gaither because it was over 3 hours before intermission and it we were getting a little tired. I don't like concerts that have intermissions that last 30-45 minutes and then the groups come back and sing one or two songs. I think the after intermission program should last a little longer than 15 - 20 minutes.
