That's what I said Mike, at a camp by her house, not at her house. It's not like we were going to camp in her backyard or something, it was at a campground.

The only one that came to visit her was Dee. (thisistheday)

Oh, my bad, sometimes when reading quickly I do not always see what was fully typed.

I remember not feeling comfortable making a financial committment to drive that far, even then.

You can come to my place, but come early - there is lots of yard and housework to do first.

I still say I had the plan to get to Sheilia's wedding...Leapfrog travel would work.

Wish we could travel. But with our equipment, it just would be too much. If anyone visits Boston, though, let us know!

And John, do you deal with post polio syndrome? One of Jeff's sister had polio as a child and she wasn't gonna let nothin keep her down, but over the past 10 years she has been dealing with the effects of post polio syndrome.

Hi Sharon, over the years I've had a couple of set backs, like going from being able to breathe on my own most of the time to needing to use a vent at night and during part of the day. But that was probably due more to having had very bad pnuemonia a couple of times rather than post polio.

Another set back took place back in 1990 when I had a stroke, which left my memory (particularly for peoples' names) and my right hand/arm weaker than it had been previously. But again that wasn't so much an effect of post polio.

Having switched from a manual wheelchair to a power wheelchair has probably helped delay some further weakness due to post polio. The condition seems to most effect muscles that have been extensively worked for several decades. I have friends who went from walking with crutches to using manual wheelchairs and then to power wheelchairs.

I never had very much strength to wheel myself around much in a manual chair so getting a power chair was vey liberating. It was great for the first time to go down the street..and then down another and another. And now that I'm married to Deb we can go all over the Boston area together. And even go in and meet people like Mike and...maybe some day...you?

Do you live near Boston or were you just visiting when you got to meet Mike?

John, I got to meet Mike in person because a mutual friend/poster (AlwaysR8chel) drove from Chicago, where she had met up with Mike who was spending a couple of days there, up to Racine, Wisconsin. I drove about 90 minutes from Fond du Lac to meet them there.
I had talked with him on the phone only previous to that. Well, plus posting here and email.

Maybe someday John and Deb I will make it to Boston. *sigh*.

John, MR's initial polio was not advanced as much as yours was/is.
But since the post polio issues, she has uses a scooter a lot more often and can't stand or walk for long. I actually was surprised that she drove their van when she was here for a visit a couple of weeks ago. Her hubby usually drops her off then comes back to get her.

Mike was in our state earlier this year but we couldn't get there to see him May be when we're in TX he will come there and y'all can come too. Yep, the brownies would work for me, Sharon. Hey, why don't I provide them and then you can do the yard work instead.

I wouldn't have the strength right now to pick up a living room, it weighs far too much

I didn't know that either.

One of the ladies in our friendship group had polio earlier in life and still suffers from the after effects.

See there! Maybe all us TX gals can get together and carpool up north.
Of course, I'd have to bring the kids, but I do have a van that seats 7.

Send her a PM, but she talks about it in forums all the time. They also open their house to our church that week. It's a celebration of the Feast of the Tabernacles.

Now Sharon-Marie, would you survive in either London or NYC? Those are very big places and well you are more of a laid back kinda person. Maybe you'd do better in Paris instead.

We're nowhere near NYC, TYVM! SharMar would survive very well here. Transportation would be a big issue for her here in the middle of nowhere though...and she'd get some mega leg muscles from pedaling all our "hills".

Oh Puhleeze. I can't even make it up the hills here in PF . . . but in my defense some of them really are quite steep . . . and when I've got 10-15 pounds of grocery in the basket, it's even more impossible. LOL

What Donna said, Mike. She and Ellie-Mae don't live anywhere near New York City.

Paris???? I don't think so.

Ireland and Scotland . . . definitely.

But I wasn't talking about moving to any of these places . . . simply visiting them.
