Why does is seem like "Open Season" on Joseph. Take a young man, give him the opportunity of a lifetime,

Along comes a self proclaimed expert...and BASH BASH BASH!!!!

Joseph.....You are a highly qualified, fantastic young man. This thread has been started to let everyone tell Joseph Habedank...

Dan, Good for you! First, I am thrilled to see you on this board, and second, what a great topic!

Joseph, I love your voice and your enthusiasm on stage. I'm not saying anything against Loren Harris, a superb vocalist, but I honestly believe the Perrys took a step up when they put you in the lead slot.

I imagine that you are referring to the averyfineline blog. And I have two comments:
1) most people realize that the author of that blog is very negative and seems to be a very uncaring soul who thinks that he has the right to be as blantant as he wants to be. And, even if it's not averyfineline, some other bloggers think they can say anything, however hurtful, and it's okay because they're "just being honest." All of us "big kids" have to learn to disregard---and even stop reading---stuff like this.
2) most public personalities (and being a SG singer with a successful group qualifies) HAVE to develop thick hides that can deal with jerks once in a while. I am sure Joseph will be fine.

I agree with all of the above comments!!! Those who can do, those who can't - they criticize and try to destroy! We all know who the real destroyer is and what his business is!

Joe, you know I love you and I think you are doing an awesome job! Libbi and Tracy took a gamble in many people's eyes when they moved you and added Nick. A gamble on allowing two young men to grow and become leaders of the future. Many who seem to think our business has no future or want the future to exactly replicate the past have a problem with that.

As for ego- Joe is one of the nicest, most humble guys you will ever meet but then 'avery' won't know that because he choses to not know the people he attacks.

Nick and Joseph keep doing what you are doing and long after people have forgotten about blogs and websites they will remember what you are doing!

And as for someone recording folks joking and kidding around, I've seen most preachers, singers and musicans have days that they 'poke fun' at what they do or what others do. Not being mean just letting off a little steam. I was on the cruise earlier this year and while I didn't witness this joking I did see Joe sitting in many of the preaching services taking in what was being said. He wasn't required to be there, he was there to hear and learn.

I remember some of our legends today when they were young and letting off steam, it was no better or worse than what you see today, they just weren't trampled on the internet for every offense because there was no internet.

For us to even be having this discussion, it shows that quite a few in the Southern Gospel music industry must read averyfineline quite often. It seems lately that his blog has had quite a bit of influence (whether good or bad) among those that read it. With that said, we all understand it is one man's opinion and critique of the Southern Gospel industry. For me I think it is healthy for there to be critique (not personal bashing) within an industry for it to grow.

How can the industry grow? Through conversation. If nothing else, averyfineline creates conversation. Do I agree with everything he writes; absolutely not. If nothing else, what he does write makes me think. From what I read on the post mentioned above, averyfineline was critiquing Joseph's artistic (stage presentation) contribution to the Perrys, not attacking him personally.

I agree with your comments. Some on this lists are quick to judge what they THINK they read, as to what http://averyfineline.com/actually said.

I too do not always agree with what http://averyfineline.com/ says, but it usually makes one think about SGM in a different light.

For the most part I do not read Blogs. Averyfineline is one of the reasons. Bloggers tend to dwell to much on the negative aspects. There are a few exceptions, Daniel and Adam being two. A few like these two young men try to accentuate the positive. When they mention the negative it is done in a fair and impartial way and worded is such a way as not to be hurtful. The rest as far as I am concerned could take lessons. With just a few exceptions as far as I am concerned Blog means

You say that based on what you feel is positive and negative. A fair amount of SGM people (fans especially) often see only the positive. Many times the REAL TRUTH is just not positive and cannot be tolerated by some.

Yes we need be on the Positive side when it is, but we need to realize sometimes IT just plain Is'nt.

I do not disagree with your statement. It is o.k. to report the negative it is the tone in which most bloggers do this that I do not like.

AH but a VAST majority of the post in the Forums are just that OPINION whether you or others like it or not. It is SO easy to be Factual when you are typing behind the scene. However that does not make it a Fact necessarily.

If we were all in the same room with the people we discuss on this Forum, 98% would not be as BOLD to say what THEY type here on the Forum.

99% of what is said by anyone on these forums (or in the blogosphere) is a matter of opinion. When we read things posted we need to remember that is all it is, opinion.

That is EXCATLY what I was saying. So often in the Forum opinion is BOLDLY stated as truth.

I agree with you 100% on this. I wasn't being argumentative with you in my previous post, Jake.[;)]

Forums and blogs are typically faceless opinions. It's much easier to speak your mind when you're not face to face with people.

On the Habedank comments, I think everyone needs to lighten up. No, I don't agree with much of what averyfineline.com said - but is that unusual? We just have to let guys like him spout off, and let him go. I'm sure that's what guys like the Perrys do, and we should do the same.


Joseph does have a unique stage presence that some may not connect with - that's their right of opinion. Granted, they should never say it a way that puts someone like Joe in an proud light...[&:]

However, on the comments on "He Forgot" not being a worthy radio single, I think Avery needs to check his stats. For the month of June, "He Forgot," in just its second reporting period is at the #15 SN Charts spot. Stuff like this speaks for itself and disputes what Avery says without us getting all worked up.

Just my opinion. [:)]

Opinion, shmopinion. The fact is, if there is something negative to relay it can be done without personally attacking those involved. One can report on the situation, or on the people involved in the situation.

I've stated in this forum before that I believe there is a lot of bad SG music out there. That doesn't mean I hate SG or those that sing it. Nor do I make a practice of pointing out whom I am speaking about. I have offered my opinion about individual's voices and the quality of them, but never attacked a person. I think we could do ourselves a service by remembering, "let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

For example, one should not address another's ego problem unless one is sure it is not being addressed out of one's own ego problem. IMHO.
