Is anyone interviewing right now? I am looking for a new job, as my company is merging and relocating to Seattle. Would anyone be interested in having a place to vent? Or bounce question off each other?

I am currently working and looking for work.

This week, so far, I have a 3rd interview on Monday, a first interview on Tuesday and Wed.

On top of this, I spend every evening sending out new resumes, so I am up until 11pm or so sending out resumes.

I am turning down a job (for the first time in my life) because they have terrible benfits. No sick time. And the first year no vacation time. Then 1 week the 2nd year. Then 2 week year 3 & 4 and then 3 weeks in year 5.

I am just getting to an age where I can afford to go on vacation, but I would not be able to go because I would not be able to afford for me to have a week off with no pay. :( Bummer because it was a job would have liked to do.

What are some things you do to prepare for the interview? I am going to buy a book on behavioral interview questions, so I can prepare some answers to those questions that they throw to you, like "what is your 5 year goal, etc".

I know I could use a place to vent. I am also working and looking for a new job, which is one of the most frustrating things I've ever done. I work at a shopping mall part time, which was fine while I was in college because the schedule is flexible, but now that I've graduated it's driving me nuts!

I've only had one interview so far and I was not offered the job. As far as interviewing goes, I'm incredibly inexperienced so I don't really know what to expect. And being fresh out of college in a state with one of the highest unemployment rates in the US probably doesn't help either!

I can help if you have any questions. I have worked in HR, so I can help with any questions you have come up. I am not the greatest at interviewing, as I am me, and I am direct, but I have learned some skills about answering the questions they ask.

Do you mind me asking what State you live in? I am in CA and there are a lot of jobs on the market now. Much nicer than when I got my last job 4 years ago. What is your degree in?

Also, CONGRATS on graduating! That is awesome!

I had a 3rd interview today. It was a phone interview. It went well.

Reach,

If you love the job, consider negotiating your benefits.

See if they would be willing to give you 1 week at 6 months and
2 weeks at 1 year.

I've not heard of a company that offered benefits but no sick leave.
Perhaps you can negotiate that too.

The only thing is I have 4 other opportunities on the plate right now, that would be more money and better benefits all around.

I would start with 18 days PTO, have 12 holidays, better 401K match.

One job I have been claiming since I found out I was going to have to look for a job (4 months ago) and it just posted last thursday. I sent my resume and I have an interview tomorrow. It is very close to home and would be a great opportunity in my industry.

I have never head of a company offering benefits and not offering at least 2 weeks vacation to help cover the time that you would need to have off for any sick time too.

I'm in the job search process, and the worst part for me is interviews. I've only had two so far (one was for a nonexistent job - they liked my resume and wanted to meet me even though they had no available openings). Before this, my last interview was for ProStaff - if you can call that an interview!

It stinks.

I used to hate the interview process, too. But you'll find that the more you do the easier they get. Take the time now to prepare answers to a couple of standard questions:

1) "Tell me a little about yourself."
2) "Why should I hire you?" or variations like "What can you bring to my company?", "What made you choose our company?"

One thing I can't stress enough is to be honest with your answers. The answers to this kind of question aren't as important to the interviewer as the way you present them.

I had two first interviews last week, and I am hoping to hear back from them this week.

Do you think it was a bad thing that I told them in five years I would like to go back to the career I am in now (which is not doing well at the moment - real estate)?

I agree. You can find interviewing questions on line, and write out answers for the questions. Most interview questions are similar, so you can use the answer for different questions. Then you sound very confident when you are answering.

I hate that 5 year goal question. I am glad I have not been asked that question. Ugh, my 5 year goal is to have a job. :)

I had two interviews this morning. I think they both went well. The only thing is they are very entry level to get into the industry, so I will probably have to take a major pay cut, to make more money later. That is scary, but my husband is OK with it. Once I get the experience under my belt (about 1 year) and I get certified, then I can make more money.

Well, today I got a letter from one of the places I interviewed last week telling me that "Although your qualifications and work history are praiseworthy, the position has been filled by another applicant."

I hope the other interview I had last week has a more favorable outcome.

Well I just found out that today is my last day. I had been doing work in another department, and they decided to let me go because I have a lot of time off planned for Aug. So I am packing up the last of my stuff and leaving.

I am so happy. I hated the work I was doing.

I know that one of the jobs I have been interviewing for will be a keeper!

Not at all! I live in Michigan. I have a degree in English (not a teaching certificate though), and I minored in German. Not the most practical, I know, but I absolutely loved it. Lots of people say English majors look great to employers because we've been trained to think critically and to communicate effectively, but it takes a very proactive job search to find those employers. I was looking for any sort of administrative job where I could use my writing and organizational skills, but now I'm considering looking into working at a nursing home just because I've always been drawn to relationships with the elderly. *shrug*

At any rate, I'm blessed just to have a job right now, and I know God will bring me elsewhere in his perfect time. It's good not to worry :)

I am *hoping* to hear back about one application I still have out, though. We'll see.

YEah, my degree is in History. I loved it. But it is just good to graduate.

I have been on many career paths in the past 10 years, so you never know where this will lead you.

Yeah, I am really glad I at least finished my degree.

But now I have a question.

Should I apply for a job even if I lack the experience they're looking for, or should I just not bother?

When I was looking for a job I applied for things that I had most of the experience. They might be willing to train in some areas, if they feel you are a good fit. Also it is good to get interviews to practice, even if they are not the right jobs.


I have a 5th and final interview today. I am excited. I have passed the others very well. They also said they want to get a close to what I was making before as they can, so it looks like I won't be taking much of a pay cut for this job.

I had about 4 interviews last week before i left on vacation, and have not heard from any of them. I think that is weird. But I need to get moving for my interview. It is in 1 1/2 hours.

I'm actively searching for a job and interviewing. I have found that it is important to have questions for them. They ask if you have questions so it must be important that you have them. Ha.

Yes, I got an email that had great interview questions. It was like 12 of them. But it has been helpful. But after 5 interviews, it is hard to make up questions.

I got a phone call today. They will make the final decision tomorrow. She is meeting with the supervisor at 10am. So I will know if I have an offer tomorrow. They are doing a background check right now. Ugh! 24 hours.....

Today is the day. I am very nervous. I don't want to be too let down if I don't get it. I want to be trusting in God to bring me the right job.

Last week, when I was really busy, I had so many interviews, this week nothing. Not even call backs about the interviews I went on. I think people should have the courtesy to at least call and say they are not interested in proceeding further with me. :(

I applied for a ton of jobs yesterday, and have two more interviews this week, and two other people who sent me an email telling me to call them.

Exactly! We should give them some lessons. LOL!

I just gave my references to my recruiter contact at the job. She is meeting with the guy now, and will call me back after the phone call. Now I am really nervous.

I just had a second interview yesterday for a position with my current company, just a step above the position I'm in now. I should know next week. Ha. But they said I should know "next week" six weeks ago after my first interview! Good thing I'm not in a rush to find a job. [8D]

Oh, and someone above asked if they should apply for a job they don't have enough experience for? The position I applied for asked for 6-9 years experience, I only have two. [:D]

Hmm... one question, when relocating or thinking about relocating, how would one go about the interview process, especially if you're only considering moving? It seems it would be very difficult to me, and something I may do in the near future (regardless of if I get the position I interviewed for!)
