I would think that you would do as much interviewing on the phone, etc until you know that you would want to interview in person. You will have to spend some money to fly and interview. That is a tough one, as it could really be costly.

Do any of you keep lists of all the places you have contacted/applied to? Tonight I was filling out an application for an appointment I have tomorrow with an employment agency and it asked for the companies I have contacted. I remember some but not all, so I just left the section blank since I am sure they will probably ask me tomorrow anyway.

I only kept a list of places I don't want them to send me to. A place I had a bad experience at. No word yet. He was supposed to meet with her yesterday, and he was very busy with a meeting that he did meet with her. But she did all of my references yesterday, so if he says yes, then it is a go. Yesterday I was at home all day waiting on the call so I had to leave and go shopping. It was too stressful. Today I am going to the beach with my sister and my nephew and his friend. So I will be busy and not just stressed waiting on "the call". I prayed about it last night at church and I am OK with whatever happens. I know that God will provide the right job. And this might not be it. But if it is not it, then I would rather God close the door.

My first interview today was good. It is the first interview I have been to this month that wasn't interviewing tons of people.

Yeah! Still no word from the job yet. I did not get a phone call at all today. I know I will hear something soon, as she knows I am going on a trip next week and wanted to have everything set up to start work on the 27th. I am not sure if no news is good news at this point.

I've been keeping track of every place I apply to, just because I've put out a slew of applications since graduation and I would definitely forget a lot of them if I didn't keep track. Also, I have an interview on the 27th for a job for which I originally received a rejection letter, but I guess the person they hired didn't work out. I'm really excited and nervous, as it's a job I want. But you're right - it's really up to God!

Well I spoke with the recruiter today, and she said that she has not spoken to the hiring manager, but the HR person thought they wanted to bring in some other people to interview. It is too bad, and weird because I thought everything about the interviews went very, very well. But it is better to know, and I am doing better with the rejection. LOL! I really want the right job, and I asked God to close the doors if it is not the right job. So I will continue to send out resumes. I am on a trip for 10 days starting Monday. So that will put a hamper in my work search, as I will be out of the country visiting family. I am hoping to have some interviews set up for when I return. I know that my brother has a computer, so I can keep up the search while I am staying at his house. I am not sure about my great aunts. THey are in their 80's. I am doubtful that they will have a computer. :( So that week I will not be able to check anything until Friday. I still have some other interviews that I went on that I think went well. One was a goverment job, and I would have to wait until I pass the background check before I can move further on that job. Another is a job in my own city. I had a good interview, and a good referral for the job. The person I interviewed with was on vacation this week, so I am waiting to hear back next week.

Well I just got the phone call with the definate no. He is looking for other people. She said I was only person he met with, and that he got mixed feedback from the group. Nothing bad, just not a good fit. Especially, she said since I wanted so much money. The funny thing is I was asking for the bottom of the scale for an executive admin.

That is disappointing, but it's great that you're seeking out God's desire in this.

I am really trying to put God first and not get stressed and disappointed. Although I am disappointed because this mean that I will be using that much more severence to live on, and not paying off my debt. :( And I will need to continue to look for a job while I am on vacation. :(

Knowing you are rejected is a bit better than them not calling after a certain time and you figure, "Well, guess I didn't get that job."

Agreed! And I know it is really hard not to get discouraged about rejections - I've gotten nothing but rejection letters and no responses so far, but you never know when just the right opportunity will open up, even if the timing is awkward.

Something to consider when applying for jobs: You know how they say "try to address the cover letter fo the person hiring"? It's even more important to SPEAK directly with the hiring manager whenever possible. For my current job, which I started a week ago, I walked a couple copies of my cover letter and resume into the department the position was posted for. I asked to speak to the person hiring for the position. The hiring manager invited me into her office and informally interviewed me, passed me on to colleague to also informally interview me, and invited me back for an interview with the head of the department. Had I not walked into the office, I never would have been hired. Though HR was still accepting applications, the department had stopped looking; they were about to hire someone else. On top of all of that, I was not fully qualified for the position, but after speaking with me, they knew I was capable. God has definitely showered His favor on me when it comes to interviewing and obtaining jobs. (I have practiced what I wrote above for every position I have ever applied for. I have only been turned down once...as we were concluding the interview, I told the hiring manger "I am still interested in this job, but not as much as I am interested in [another position - not open - in the department].") Though I know God's favor has a lot to do with it, I think that hand-delivering cover letters and resumes to hiring managers is a MAJOR bonus. Give it a try...it can't hurt!

Hey any job is a great job. The sad thing is when they won't hire you because you are too qualified. LOL! I am on vacation in Toronto visiting my brother. I did a phone interview this morning that went really well. She wants to meet with me the day I return, next Friday. So I will be on the first flight out, get in at 11:30 am, and interview at 3pm. Yes!!!! I am a glutton for punishment! I am excited because this is a good match for me and close by my house. yeah! I also had two more people call and want to talk with me. One is a temp position, but better to work while I am looking I always say!

I will be more east tomorrow night.......... We are heading to New Brunswick to visit family...... Are you that far east? Hey, we are all happy to work, right! I am getting unemployment right now, so there is no need to take a job making too low, but that only lasts 6 months! I am praying I find something. The longest I have ever been on unemployment is 4 months.

Well, I got a call from JAL. They didn't make an offer. The reason is because of my Masters degree. They have had people in the past with a Masters who have left because they expected to move up in the company rather quickly. Thing is that it can take awhile before anyone can move up because of the nature of the position. So they feel that anyone with a Masters applying for an entry level position is overqualified. So now I am at a place of deciding whether I should accept a position at the framing/art store or declining that moving on. What I need to think about is whether I should take on a commission earned position. I really need to pray about this. If I decide not to take the job I am highly considering removing my MSW from my resume, at least for when I apply to non-social work positions.
