I just got an e-mail from Clarke Beasley and they are offering the live video feed again this year and it looks like it's going to include the showcases that are in Freedom Hall, which is VERY nice! It also says there won't be a live audio only feed this year.

Here's where you can get the INFO

We both did the same thing. I changed my reservation at one hotel twice, each time getting same type of room, but at a cheaper rate. I ended up using an internet hotel booking site that got me a cheaper rate, although further out. But the price difference and type of hotel made it worth my wait. The only drawback was paying in advance. I did take an inexpensive insurance policy in case of an emergency that will refund the money. I too love to stay at the Exec's, but the rates for the hotels surrounding the fairgrounds are just too high for me to afford, especially since I stay for the entire week. Rooms that are over $100 per night will end up costing almost $1000 for the week after taxes and fees. Sorry this poor girl just can't afford that.

The only reason I booked there was because the Exec West has been telling me since October that they were "Booked". I asked them once, "Booked, or blocked?"... that wasn't met with a very pleasant response, but I couldn't resist. HINT: Blocks are lifted 30 days prior to the event. I called on August 8th, and got a room, not only a room, but the same room I had booked at the Sleep Inn, and much less expensive. I learned from my good friend Ms Judy to BE PATIENT!!! lol There will always be rooms closer to event, and usually much less expensive!

When booking a hotel in advance, I always make sure it's a reservation I can cancel with no penalties. In years past, I've booked a hotel 11 or 10 months in advance. This year, I didn't even bother to start checking until a couple of weeks ago. Judy is correct. The price ALWAYS drops. Of course, I usually stay somewhere other than the Execs. I love those old hotels, but the noise of the jets keeps me awake if I'm near a top floor. I've found a nice quiet hotel away from the hustle and bustle that is relatively inexpensive...I've never paid more than $60 per night there...though I may have to this year.

I'm staying Tue-Thur nights rather than my typical Mon-Wed. When I checked two weeks ago, the hotel I typically use had rooms that were very affordable the first two nights, but then the price nearly doubled for Thursday night. I checked last night, and the price on the first two nights had gone up a couple of dollars each, but the price on Thursday had dropped by $29.

I went ahead and made the reservation, BUT I will be checking again...up until a few days before. If I find it's cheaper, I will make another reservation first...get it confirmed...then and only then, I'll cancel the one I made last night. This seems to be the best method for getting the best price.

Most people never check again after they make the initial reservation. That's what they're banking on when they offer a higher rate several months before. Once the hotel realizes they aren't going to sell out, the price drops.

I've changed several times but ended up today at the Sleep Inn almost on the grounds. I had enough choice points to pay for 2 of the 4 nights to it is still cheap that the place I found in Brooks, KY. Plus I get bonus points for the 2 nights I'm paying for because of a special and these nights will put me in the elite category to qualify for additional discounts. All that and I save gas too!

I will not be attending the NQC though I would love to, my kids are in school and my wife is a school teacher so that rules out any possibilaty for us to attend. So I guess we will have to spend our $2,000.00 at spring break in colorado. If only they would change the date to summer to accomendate younger poeple.

I know they have done surveys before which included whether to change the date and/or location. Has anyone heard what has been decided about the date change?

Time is getting closer. I even found a cheaper room yesterday at another motel. I booked it kept the one I had. I then cancelled another room at the third hotel. We don't do much more than sleep at the motel anyway and its in the same area where I have the other reservations. We're going up on Sunday and with the cheaper room staying until the next Sunday. We usually come home on Fri or Sat.

Bobby, I'm glad to see that you will be staying the whole time!!!! Now, maybe we'll see you up there (that's hilarious, isnt' it.....going all the way to Kentucky to see our neighbors!). We'll be there Thurs/Fri/Sat, going home Sunday. We were thinking about hunting down a cheaper room, but when Dinana told me some of the features that we'll have, I voted for staying put! We're splitting it two ways, so that makes it better!

About all we need is a bed to sleep in and a cup of coffee and bite to eat in the morning. Then we're gone until bed time. They have cereal, toast and that kinda of stuff. I always carry a small cooler. Put ice in it in the morning and take with us that day along with some crackers. Usually eat one meal in food court.

Sorry to say, but I think this might qualify for the "too much information" LOL. But good deal if you were able to get that at a decent price.

Kind-of a different topic, but for those who like to shop while in Louisville - there was a place called Fashion Shop that had to close, I think due to bankruptcy. But they had wonderful deals on clothing. Does anyone know if they have opened under a different name or not?

There will be a lot of SG artist sorry to hear about this. I know a lot bought a lot of clothes there last year and in years past. Seems like they waited until NQC to do their shopping.

Received this in email about 10 minutes:

The Daystar Television Network will air the one hour NQC Special previously aired on TBN. This special, which features Dino and Cheryl Kartsonakis and features several special performances from the 2007 National Quartet Convention 50th Anniversary Event, will air on Tuesday, August 26th, at 11:00 a.m., 8:00 p.m. and 12:00 midnight Central Time. These slots are normally reserved for their flagship Celebration program.

After watching the program, you can use this link, http://www.daystar.com/contactus, to let them know much you enjoyed the program and appreciate them airing it. This could possibly lead to future airings and future programs as it did on TBN.

We hope we will see you at NQC in a couple of weeks or will see you online watching our live webcast.

Currently have three reservations. Howard Johnsons $67.50 Mon-Thur $90.00 Fri, Roadway $55.00 both on Phillips Dr., and Super 8 Central Ave. $85.50. PLUS TAX. Will be making up our minds the week before we go and cancelling the others. As you say we are only there a few hours a night to sleep. All we need is a bed. We don't even need one of those jacuzzi things.

I know Value City is still open. It is located on Preston Highway and I always see lots of people there. And this place is also a great store to find bargains.

Man, i used to love staying at the Galt House, they had one fantastic breakfast bar, with scrambled eggs, sausage, waffles, fresh fruit, oatmeal, and everything else you could think of. I'm really gonna miss going there this year.

I'd recommend dropping Rodeway. I stayed there one time, and I would never stay there again even if the price was $29/night.

That place is in direct line with one of the heavily used runways at the airport. There's only two levels to the hotel. I was on the top level, but I imagine it wasn't much better one story lower.

The planes sound like they're about 100 feet over your head as they come in every 10-15 minutes. You start to doze off...in comes another one ripping the sky in half.

Also, it's a total dump. I know you said all you need is a bed, but trust me...there are a few things I want in addition to a bed, though like you, I don't require a jacuzzi. In ten years of attending NQC, that's the only year I seriously considered checking out early and finding another one for the rest of the week. I was only there for three nights, so I toughed it out.

I will be there for my 34th year, I think.....LOL......Hope everyone will try and stop by my booth. I have an end-cap this year!! LOL........some of my artists & I will be around 1240 - 1135......I think.....haha....buy a program book and find me!!!!!
BTW....the Executive West is where I've stayed since NQC has been in KY........too bad they're selling out after all the renovations they've done, and the rooms have been upgraded and are so much nicer!

The Diamond Awards have been moved to the Exe. Inn across the street on Friday @ 1:00 PM. We still have a bunch of showcases going on at the West. Bobby is right....it is hard to know what room 'who' is performing in unless the artists hand out flyers at the Exhibit Hall.

Since my PR regarding going back to promoting, plus keeping my Agency, plus being Sales Agent for CVM and many other things, I have no idea what day I'll be where. I've recieved a lot of private invites though, so t/y to all who sent them. I plan to try and make as many as possible. I will be at the Diamond Awards as a Presenter, not singer...LOLOL..

Been missing you MsJudy. Thinking of you today when I saw something about you merging your agency with another. It being after midnight I don't remember who you merged with. Good luck.
