It may just be normal- both my girls kind of made a semi-high pitch ny-erp, nyerp type sound every time they swallowed when the milk was coming quickly. (you could hear their glugging across the room) They both grew out of it after a couple months and it never seemed to bother them. Is he acting uncomfortable or doing anything else that is concerning?

Gabby gulps when she eats, I find it reassuring because I *know* that she's getting good swallows.

some kids are just hard to burp. Each of ours had a different way we had to hold them to get them to burp. One you had to pat very hard, another rubbing was best. One liked being on their belly to burp, another if you did that they would spit up all over you. Sometimes it takes a special touch. With Emma I never could get that kid to burp...anyone else could pick her up and she would immediately burp, but not me no matter what I did.

Yolanda- I agree with Sarah- Anna was a nightmare to burp. Does Chase pas gas just about every time you bend his legs (fold him in half) or wipe his bum? What is a "lot" to you- is it just noisy or is it painful too? Babies can put teenage boys to shame with their noise, but it doesn't seem to bother them. If he is pulling up his legs and screaming about it, then it is a problem. If it is every day, I would start a food diary- it could be a reaction to something you are eating. After my long experience with this, I am soooo glad we decided to change my diet rather than try formula- she was allergic to wheat and soy, so finding a formula would have been a NIGHTMARE. Every time I wiped her bum or bent her legs, she would toot- it was awful!

Judah has been a riot - his favorite thing at the moment is standing and climbing - other than nap time today he has been go-go-go.

I tried nursing him in our normal position today but he wanted none of it. He kept squirming and wanting to stand... so I ended up laying on my side on the couch and let him stand beside the couch and he nursed while standing up - he did it for a good twenty minutes! I wish I could have gotten a picture!!

Burping??

I hadn't even thought about such a concept in almost 16 months. Reagan never needed it. Or if she did, I was deficient in doing it correctly and never got burps out.

I hope I don't forget any other vital newborn care items.

Oh, they are so funny when they get mobile. Gebre used to do that, but then work his feet up and over my body so that he would end up almost upside down. I felt really, really silly, but I guess whatever works....

You will have to have your camera ready next time.

Levi likes to dangle off my lap now. He'd probably like to stand and nurse too.

Okay, what is the weirdest nursing position you have ever had- at this point, I would have to say wiggling off my lap to a standing position with her bum over her head and her head near her feet, still nursing is my strangest...

Gabby is pretty much sleeping through the night (6 hour stretch) which is fabulous but I'm waking up "full" about 4 hours into the night. I don't want to pump and encourage more production so do I just need to tough it out until my supply adjusts?

Funny nursing positions... I had a clogged duct on the left side of my left breast and had to have DH hold her so I could get her chin aimed at the spot.

funniest position....hmmmm....have to think about that one

ryanne...you can pump just enough to relieve the pressure...it won't cause more production if you just do a little

We had a much better night last night. I'm still lacking some sleep, but it wasn't as frustrating as the few nights before that. Let's hope this continues!

So far, he seems to be fussy after I ate donairs, and the other night when I had pizza (maybe the pepperoni?) He was very gassy... you could hear his poor little stomach rumbling. I find he is quite sensitive to what I eat, so I'm going to have to watch it for a bit anyway.

Jennifer, he doesn't pass gas a lot like you described, but he pulls his legs up to his belly sometimes, and makes long grunting noises. He seems quite uncomfortable at those times.

It could also be the tomato sauce, Yolanda.

Hmm, could be tomato sauce too, but salsa didn't seem to bother him the night I had quesadillas...and the only thing that is in donairs is spicy meat, and sauce...though there were a couple of tomatos in that too. Are tomatos a common thing that could cause gas? Should I avoid pasta sauce too?

carbonation or anything that causes you gas could cause them gas. Some women have success with taking a gas reliever themselves (like Bean-O)...they say it helps the baby too....I don't have experience with that trick though. Some other common things the baby has problems with is lactose and wheat gluten

I found out the hard way that eating 4oz of dark chocolate coated stem ginger straight off (after not having been able to eat any for 9 months) didn't agree with my baby at all!

Actually, very, very few babies are sensitive to lactose(less then 2%) most babies are sensitive to milk protein itself. If they were allergic/sensitive to lactose then they would also be that way towards breastmilk as it contains lactose.

Gabby has problems when I take stool softners, they give both of us horrible gas

Peyton was always sensitive to if I had any onion, broccoli, legumes, or chocolate.

Jessica, that's funny about Judah standing!! Isabel is my nursing acrobat. Isaac was always a good boy and stayed put. Isabel can't sit still for half a minute, so she often nurses standing on her head, especially when fighting sleep. While still attached, she'll get her feet in my lap and get steady then raise her bum in the air and stand on my lap, never unattaching from breast. Silly girl.
