So, during those difficult days, do I continue to pump when she's not nursing? Do I try to force my breast into her mouth or just offer it? I'm sorry if these are stupid questions but I'm kind of clueless. it's not stupid questions, it's preparing your mind and heart for the journey (a tough one too...I was just telling Donna last night that I am not sure I would have the fight in me to do what you want to do!!!). Knowledge and getting things together now in your mind is the way to go though, so it's not a stupid question...it's preparation. Just remember that no soldier goes into a battle without preparation first. I would not try to force the breast into her mouth....that's how you get bitten (OUCH!!!!). As far as pumping, if she goes for too long and you MUST get relief, then pump...but I would say try not to for as much as possible and try to just get her to nurse. You may find that she gives in faster then you think you will...but then again, her red hair may be a clue to her stubbornness too...so you never know.

My dd1 was like your DD. She absolutely refused to nurse. Unfortunately I didn't have a support system like here to encourage me to keep it up

Tammy, can you get your breasts to squirt by squeezing them? Try squirting some milk in her mouth when she's crying and you're trying to get her latched on. Sometimes that helps.

Tammy, have you tried a supplemental nursing system? That was what finally got Marshall to nurse after five months of pumping exclusively. He just didn't have the patience to wait for letdown and the SNS convinced him that there was milk there. We were VERY blessed and only had to use it for a couple of days before he would nurse without it. --Kat

LOL...Sarah, yeah her red hair IS indicative of a stubborn streak. Kinda like her Mama. I guess if we decide to go this route, we'll find out who is the more stubborn one. Give me a challenge and I'll take it! LOL Christina, I can only get a drop on the end of my nipple. I have squirted her in the past but not recently. Perhaps if I pump a bit beforehand (just for a few seconds, to get things going) it'll get to the point where it'll squirt. I might give that a shot (pun intended). Kat, I have been considering that. I was going to ask the LC about it (they mentioned it before) to see if I can get one from them. Otherwise, I think I'll have to order one. You're the first person who has told me it worked so I'm feeling more comfortable with that idea. Actually, in hindsight, I feel I should have been using one all along (while she had the cleft). I was just so afraid she would come to rely on it after her surgery. But being on this side of surgery, I think she would have moved to straight nursing without a problem. *sigh* I would have done SO MANY things differently! Almost makes me hope for another cleft baby because I'm so knowledgable and it would be a WHOLE lot smoother sailing! (and, no I don't *really* mean that) I can't tell you ladies enough how grateful I am for you! I appreciate your input and encouragement. I so wish I had someone in person who could come alongside me, spend time with us, etc....but this is SO much better than nothing!

Manda is an SNS tube thing something like what I used to get Nath on? We hooked up a small nasal tube to a syrienge with some formula (this was before my milk was in) and put it under a nipple shield then got Nath on and he would suck the tube and the formula and then when it was gone would suck from the nipple. It worked for me! It was the only thing that worked and I was so annoyed that a midwife hadn't suggested it earlier!!

HERE is a link for the Medela SNS. Another slightly different system is called Lact-Aid There's a comparison of both systems HERE. (scroll down a bit)

I am sorry WOF.....that can be hard sometimes. Jack stopped nursing back a few months ago because he got sick and couldn't nurse because he was sooooo congested. Then after that ten day fight he went back to it for a few weeks, but not like before (which was fine with me...cause before he was nursing a lot still)....then he got sick again and stopped altogether. I had hoped he wouldn't stop nursing so soon (20mo)

ORIGINAL: EmilyAnn I am planning to order a few Bravado nursing bras soon. Pre-pregnancy I was a 34 A or small B, depending on the bra. Now, at almost 34 weeks, I am wearing a 36 C. I was thinking of getting 2 original nursing bras (one small plus and one small double plus) and 1 nursing bra tank (36 B/C.) Do you think those are the sizes I need? Also, has anyone ever worn an Aimee nursing gown? What do you think of them? Thanks!! I posted this a few days ago, but didn't get much response. I went ahead and ordred the bras in those sizes. I received them on Saturday. According to the website a small fits 32-36 and a medium fits 36-40. My regular bra is a 36 and it is comfortable, but when I tried on my Bravado it was tight. Is my band size going to get bigger or smaller once the baby is here? Should I keep the smalls or exchange for mediums?

I don't know much about nursing bras Emily, sorry. I got a few with a lot of mat clothes that I bought on eBay, and they were good enough for me, so I never really tried them on or anything.

I'd recommend getting some glamourmom maternity tops! I LOVE mine. They double as maternity and nursing bras. --Kat

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE my glamormom tanks!!! If you have a motherhood store go ther e- you can get them for 21.98!!!! That said, Target also has a beautiful and very comfy nursing bra for 14.99. Check out the nursing bra thread for the link. The tanks are great, but as a woman I like to wear a bra too. And, Em - it's hard to say how your body will change, but It sounds ilke u should go bigger if they are now TIGHT the way you put it. (and sorry, not sure how i missed that post!)

Erin - I was taking a shower thinking of your bra question and I want to change my mind. If you have the money, get a regular bra. Don't rush nursing stuff if you don't have to. You'll be wearing nursing bra's for 6 months to a year (if you chose). Enjoy the non-mom clothing while you can. :) But, when you do get a nursing bra... I recommend this one to make you feel sexy, but also extremely comfy. I love mine. I got a black and white one. I still feel like a sexy woman, but also a nursing mom. (Not including glamourmom tanks!!!!) LINK

That is the brand of nursing bras I got from Target as well, though that is not the same style of bra I got. I think they have such pretty bras for nursing mothers there. My sister saw my bra onetime and she was shocked at how pretty it was because she wore hideous looking ones and said she couldn't find any like that. I love them and they are really comfy! I am embarrassed to say I am still wearing them because my pre-pregnancy bras don't fit like they use to and I haven't had time to go by myself to look for any. That is one shopping trip I am doing solo!

Thanks for the input. I think I will just buy some bigger bras. I will probably stay a little bigger anyway right? So its not like they'll be for nothing.

You never know, Erin. I'm pretty much down to what I used to be, but my ribcage is a little wider and my breasts are a different shape. The bigger bras I wore when pregnant(40 C) definitely don't fit now and I still ended up buying all new ones.

I was just never able to find any nursing bras that actually made it look like I was wearing a bra at all LOL - me too!! I was at both Sears and The Bay recently when they were having HUGE sales (45 - 55% off their bras) and I couldn't find a single nursing bra that fit well. Arg. I guess I gotta start thinking about this soon, huh??

JC Penny and Sears do bra fitting. You can probably buy inexpensive there too. I'd feel bad getting fitted at Victorias Secret then going and buying a bra somewhere else for cheaper.
