Oh there's so many! Off the top of my head and in no particular order:

It's A Wonderful Life (Merry Christmas Mr. Potter! Merry Christmas to you too - in Jail!)
Wuthering Heights ( Cathy & Heathcliff...gets me every time)
Miracle on 34th Street (You see, my mom is the manager who hired you)
Casablanca (Of all the joints in the world...)
A Tale of Two Cites (Recalled to Life)
Monkey Business (Terrified Tissue!)
Gone with the Wind - not technically b&w, but worth a mention!!! (I'll think about it tomorrow)
A Place in the Sun (Liz Taylor in her prime)
Some Like It Hot (We're the new girls! BRAND NEW!)
Father of the Bride (Spencer Tracy was great as the befuddled father)
A Little Princess (Shirley Temple - nuff said)

I know there's more. I absolutely LOVE old movies....

Philadelphia Story
Seven Samurai
Casablanca
Citizen Kane

amyk -> RE: What is your favorite old time black and white movie? (10/20/2007 3:47:02 PM)

I cannot name just one - it sort of depends on my mood or maybe the time of year or something. So, I will list what I consider right now to be my top 10 old B/W movies but not in a particular order.

Yankee Doodle Dandy
The Strawberry Blonde
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
It's A Wonderful Life
Angels With Dirty Faces
Dark Victory
Rebecca
Casablanca
Penny Serenade
His Girl Friday

There is one other black and white movie I really like, but it is from about 1980 - yes, it was made in black and white on purpose! It is The Elephant Man.

I am pretty sure Rear Window is in color. It is an excellent movie, but not for this thread, I guess.

Is Boy Meets Girl with James Cagney? If so, then that is one of his movies I don't think I have ever seen, but I think I may have seen a clip of it on a show about Cagney. I think I would really like that one. (If it's Cagney, it has to be a pretty bad Cagney movie for me not to like it, although I will say The Bride Came C.O.D. is not exactly one of his stellar movies, even though it has Bette Davis in it, too!)

Hmm, I could have sworn it was in black and white, but I checked and yeah, it is in color. I'm not sure why I remember it that way.

Boy Meets Girl does star James Cagney. I see that it has only a so-so rating on IMdB, but it seems like reviewers either think it's brilliant or absolutely hate it. Cagney plays a Hollywood screenwriter, the movie's kind of a farce about Hollywood and the studios. The two writers are trying to come up with a script and they're tired of doing the boy-meets-girl, boy-loses-girl, boy-gets-girl-back plot line.

To Kill A Mockingbird

rockominal -> RE: What is your favorite old time black and white movie? (10/22/2007 1:00:13 PM)

A hard to find Hitchcock movie called Saboteur with Robert Cummings. It's one of the best as far as I'm concerned.

  • Also a movie called It Had to be You with Ginger Rogers. That is NOT the recent (2000) version that keeps popping up on internet search. That movie even started out funny on the original when she was getting married (more or less[8D]).

Way too many to list, but my all-time favorite may just be Roman Holiday...I don't believe an actress has topped Audrey Hepburn's beauty or performance yet...
