Sarah, you are way more patient than us I think. It will be interesting to see how Paul handles things when it has been so long since MIL has last visited and Paul is probably a lot more sure of himself. I will be in prayer that the situation won't stress you out too much. Kylie, we always have stuff for my FIL to do when he comes to visit. He gets really antsy and grumpy when he doesn't have things to keep him busy and likes to feel useful. I give him a lot of leeway. Last time I let him take out a wall. He knows that he doesn't HAVE to do anything if he doesn't feel like it. Hearing about all that ice reminds me so much of VA. I loved living there. I even loved the ice. I remember it lacing the trees like jewels and playing ice hockey in the driveway. The only way we could leave our apartment was to go uphill. There were a few days that we couldn't get away from our apartment. We were even trying to crawl up the hills on our hands and knees. We were trying to make our way across the neighbor's (upstairs) lawn even, but we couldn't help but slide back down (not that we could get far anyway). Unlike in NY, no one expected you to go to work if it snowed or iced a lot. I remember in January '96 there were only 3 days of school due to snow days.

Well Denny, I think I'd take a nap. You getting the feeling these women are ignoring us? I mean they're talking about these deep heartfelt issues and then we try to liven things up with one liners. Where's the justice in that? And where's Sarah's hubby? She said she'd send him into the fray to keep us menfolk company....

Sarah, I'm sorry to hear about your MIL. I can relate to not wanting your MIL around at all. Mine is pretty nice now (took 3 years to actually get her to look at me and talk to me) but every once in a while, something slips in. A few months ago, I thought things had changed completely. She had gone from telling my husband not to marry me and to telling me that I am the perfect wife and mother for DH and DD. I was so impressed and happy and ready to take the compliment genuinely when she said "the only thing wrong with you now is your skin colour, but I know you can't fix that." And that is a Christian woman!!!!! I would love to see pictures of your ice storm. About a decade ago, there was a huge one in Ottawa (DH was living there at the time and so was my sister) and it was beautiful afterwards. My sister's roommate let his dog out for a go, and the dog ended up sliding the whole way down the street, and thus so did the roommate trying to rescue the dog!

And where's Sarah's hubby? She said she'd send him into the fray to keep us menfolk company.... LOL...sorry....he doesn't take much time to get online....mostly just the weekends, and last weekend I woke up to the sound of him and the kids having a "cleaning party"....so he was quite busy. I am sure he will be in here soon....although not tonight...SURVIVOR IS ON!!!! quote:
How ya doing today, Sarah? tired.....and STILL finding more and more laundry hiding the corners of places that I never even knew we had corners to!!!! So far I have ... gone through all the girls and Jack's clothes, gotten out things that don't fit or are the wrong season. Organized their drawers. Packed their clothes for the trip. Jake doesn't have as much clothing, so his I have to pack next week sometime...probably tuesday or wednesday. We are packing ours this weekend. I have to finish cleaning the house....which seems to be falling apart around me the more I clean. I swear the floor grows stuff like seeds that are planted!!! I also finished packing up all of Matt's stuff so we can take it with us to give to him...hopefully. He was staying with his sister, but she said he got mad and ran off a few weeks ago, so she doesn't know where he is now. Why are 18yo's so hard headed about rules?????? my next project is to finish getting the list together of what all we need to take with us...what we need to buy before the trip, etc., finish more laundry, and clean more........it never ends!!! oh AND Paul's parents called this morning...I don't know why, I didn't answer it because the phone was going to cut out after only a few seconds...so I will have to have him call them back later tonight. they NEVER call...so only who knows what they want now. More then likely to yell at him for something. He told his mom that we are having another baby the other day, and hasn't told his dad yet...so more then likely she told him. I told him he should just tell them in an email so that they can't say anything rude back immediately like they can on the phone.

- Well, that's a good start! Say, can we order some on-line tools from this thread?

Sarah, I'm glad that you all didn't get hit too bad with that ice. I love the looks of the ice; it is one of those beautiful things that are really quite dangerous at times. You know, my sister has caller ID, and she used to not answer the calls from her MIL. I'm not sure what she does now that her kids have learned that she didn't answer those calls, and her in-laws have been having serious health problems (life-threatening). Maybe you guys can recommend some ice/snow removal equipment...

- Ice is bad enough, but to get hit with it is even worse!

ORIGINAL: denbert - Who's got the catalog? Noah. Which one would you like? He's got...Lowe's, Tractor Supply, Home Depot, DeWalt, Craftsman, SnapOn, and numerous other mechanic supply catalogs. He actually lines them up on his bed at night, like normal kids do with stuffed animals. Actually, take them all. They drive me crazy.

Sarah, Do you want things to be prepared ahead, or will you stop and use a picnic table along the way? Do you have a cooler that you can access while driving, or does it need to be all room temp snacks?

We ate like this the whole way to MS last time we went. Stopped only ONE time for fast food, and then it was one item off the dollar menu for each person. Apples, bananas, carrot sticks, grapes (cut ahead of time for little ones). Peanut butter graham crackers. Oatmeal raisin cookies. Mini muffins. If you have a cooler, bring lunch meat and cheese and bread or rolls to make sandwiches. Or plan to stop at a Walmart or something on the way and just buy enough meat and cheese for that one meal.
