Yeah man... #1. Gotta have priorities! I'll mulch grass clippings, but in GA the pine needles and big white oak leaves do not mulch well. Every now and then, you need to suck. Wait, that didn't sound good. But you get my point. If you have a small, flat yard. Seriously consider the Snapper rear engine riders. They start at $1,100. http://www.snapper.com/rear_engine_riders.html Tough as nails and last more than 10 years with good care, the optional Hi-Vac blade will mulch AND bag, good turn radius, and the heat from the engine is behind you in the breeze. I HATE front engine mowers! It's hot enough doing the job, I don't want additional heat blowing in my face. A couple of years ago I bought a foreclosure house and the owner left a Murray Select, the same as Sears Craftsman's rear engine mower, and it was the biggest piece of junk! Always needed some repairs, the break was built into the clutch assembly so it was an expensive repair, just a pain. So I gave it away, and brought my Snapper with me to do the lawn. The Murray and Sears mowers are fine if you use them in light duty, but most of the time the grass is knee high by time I get around to it.

Yeah they still have pull start, but it's not hard to get it started. The pull starts are only 11HP. Even after mine has sat all winter, I'll replace the plug, add fresh gas, and it cranks within 2 pulls.

Is 11HP enough? My experience with mulching push-mowers is that you need lots of HP. I think my current one is 6.75HP.

Yeah but that's on the smallest mower they have. And griding or vacuum power depends on which blade you put on, not so much the engine.

- Well, you could replace that engine with a Chevy Duramax diesel with the Allison transmission. That should give you enough power.

Rayofson, I'd wondered where you lived because it's so cold. When you mentioned Lake Erie in another post, I'm thinking northern PA or OH. Is that right? Just wondering. Here in Houston it's clear and 56 today.

Hey guys, haven't been here for awhile. Being non-mechanical, it seems I never do well in the garage. I have a huge garage on my property, but it's my father in laws garage. Won't be mine till he passes and then I won't know what to do with it. As far as mowing, we have three John Deere tractors for mowing the field and a Craftsman for the lawn around the houses. For the past two years, we've been harvesting our own hay for our hay burners (horses).
