He is so cute! I wonder if I should pass that phone number along to some of my dog loving relatives. [:D]

peculiar_lady2 -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/20/2008 11:15:50 PM)

I clicked (for the poll) "What is microchipping" because although I know technically that it is a device you can scan if they ever get lost, I don't know much more then that about it. Not sure either way if we would do it or not.

Kath -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/20/2008 11:39:02 PM)

I chose I would not chip because we don't let the cats out. I've thought about doing the dog but she doesn't roam. (that little tidbit is off topic though)[;)]

utilityfielder -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/20/2008 11:57:38 PM)

Mine are not microchipped because they are indoor cats.

agapetos -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/21/2008 1:14:50 AM)

I've got a cat. She came from the RSPCA and they chip as routine. I'd have had her chipped myself if she hadn't been done (just as I'd have had her spayed if she hadn't been done). I'd hate for her to go missing and not be able to find her, not that she goes out (her choice).

She's been great company and it's been wonderful to see her personality develop as she's become more secure (she was very timid when I first got her).

SweetLittleErin -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/21/2008 10:31:52 AM)

No microchips here, our cats never go outside.

My kitty's name is Rukia! She was a homeless kitty found on side of road in the middle of no where... a carrier found her and asked me if I could watch her until she was done with her route It was my lunch break so I took her in my work and I looked at her with her ribs showing...and gave her some of my cheeseburger. I then decided I was going to take her in...and give her a loving home.

She is very loved! she is so unqie, She always watches me leaving out the window...and she is always there when I come home waiting at the door for me, she is my alarm kitty she always knows when its time for me to get up ...although at times she is crazy and all over the place...like some kinda ninja...she always comes and sits in my lap, and always is there when I wake up...she is here as we speak sitting in my lap lol.

The day I met Rukia!

Rukia!

LOL

always around

ok...question......
we are thinking of replacing our couch set with tax refund money. The couch and love seat we have were given to us and we aren't too keen on them...constantly having to fix the cushions a million times a day. We want something with less maintenance....and probably just a couch and chair instead of the love seat...it doesn't work for our living room very well.
Question is...are there any fabric choices we should stay away from because of having cats? What about leather (or the fake stuff that looks like leather, cause we are cheap and would probably end up with the cheaper stuff)?

Nicole_Michelle -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/23/2008 1:46:10 PM)

We have 3 cats. Chika, Bonnie and Pennie.

We got Chika from the humane society. We weren't allowed to have pets in our first apartment, but we figured that since we were moving in a month we would get her. They never knew we had a cat. [;)] She was born behind a dumpster and was very unhealthy and underweight when we adopted her. Now she is perfectly healthy and the sweetest cat you could ever meet! She really is a "baby" and loves to be held by me and will jump up if I say "Chika want up?". She also loves getting her tummy tickled. She is very talkative and will follow me around the house everyday talking up a storm trying to get my attention. [:D]

We got Bonnie from an ad in the paper. She was free. She too was very underweight when we got her. She is still a skinny cat, but numerous vets told us that she is just a small cat. She adores my husband.

We got Pennie from another ad in the paper. She too was free. She was born in a barn right beside a bunch of cows. She had terrible ear mites when we got her, but once we treated her and our other pets she was fine and is the funniest cat. She acts more like a dog and rolls around with our dogs all day long. She likes to steal their toys and chase them around the house. The other 2 cats prefer to not have her around much so they usually ignore her. She loves being pet and she loves giving everyone hugs around their neck.

Suede is the best in my opinion. My parents have had a faux suede couch for years and it is still in tip top condition even though the cats have scratched at it. We have a suede chair and our cats try to wreck it, but haven't been able to. Leather is the worst because one tiny hole is very noticeable and can keep ripping. Usually when a cat scratches or just gets a nail stuck in a leather couch it pulls out the cotton fabric underneath the leather making the couch look even worse.

doinkdom -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/23/2008 2:27:09 PM)

Yes, let's talk cats [8|]

We have an 11 year old cat-mutt - she's grey but no pedigree. She's been our baby since before her eyes opened.

She was neutered when she was young and has everything a cat could possibly want out of life.

and yet...she walks around the house caterwalling when we are all at home and all in the same room and she is getting attention, etc. She just starts meowing...endlessly. I've checked her over and over for something that might be giving her pain or discomfort.

We graduated from lil squirtgun to big squirtgun and nothing...she still does it.

I just don't get it. She wakes us up in the middle of the night hollering at the foot of the bed.

???any thoughts???

thanks...I will tell Paul. My only problem with suede is that I can't stand lines...even if the vacuum leaves lines I sweep them out...lol. So I feel like I would constantly be brushing the material with my hand just so it wouldn't annoy me

Kath -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/23/2008 4:48:41 PM)

Connie, I wish I could help but I just don't have a clue.

doinkdom -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/23/2008 5:02:24 PM)

The vet said to just ignore her and she would stop after 3 or 4 days. Well, we did that for about 3 weeks and she never stopped.

We thought maybe she wanted to go outside with us, so we let her out in the back yard - it's privacy-fenced - but even then, she meowed while she sniffed and walked around.

I don't know...I guess she's just like anything else that ages...complain, complain, complain[:D][;)]

peculiar_lady2 -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/23/2008 5:10:25 PM)

maybe she is just a very vocal cat? Has she always been like this or is this a new thing?

doinkdom -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/23/2008 5:15:55 PM)

it's new as in the past year [8|]

we always knew she was slightly neurotic, but geez[8D]

Sometimes you need to explain to them what time you need to get up the following day and they mustn't wake you before that time. Works with Munchie[;)]

I'd be going back to the vet. Munchie does sometimes make noise for some reason, but it's not all the time... not sure what I'd do if it was[&:]

Kath -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/24/2008 1:23:44 AM)

We had a cat that meowed all the time. It drove. me. nuts. But cat left when Brenda (larry's oldest) moved back in with her mom. [:)] Mom wanted cat to stay with us, but he said where Brenda goes the cat goes.

mutinywxgirl -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/24/2008 5:04:15 AM)

My cat IS microchipped - even though she is an indoor cat. I had it done when I had her fixed - so there was no discomfort for her. We live in FL - with hurricanes and stuff - you just never know. She also had a tendency to want to "bolt" out the front door at times, so it's solely for her own protection.

She's a med haired ALL black kitty with one white whisker and a very small patch of a few white hairs under her chin.

She trusts me completely - her favorite position is upside down in my arms (like a baby) so she can look at the world upside down. She also lets me clip ALL her claws - front and back. I've had her now for nearly 5 years, and she was about a year and a half when I got her. She's rescued.
