I wanted to ask you fellow cat people to pray for me and my cat, King Tut. I put in a 12-hour shift at work and then came home to find that during a storm the wind had blown my back door open, and my 15-year-old sealpoint Siamese had escaped. A couple of friends came over and we searched the neighborhood with flashlights, called and called, but we didn't find him. He's a pretty smart cat, so I'm praying that he will find his way back home unharmed. It breaks my heart to think of him out there in the dark, cold and lost and probably scared. I've cried and prayed and cried and prayed. I was sitting on the couch talking to my friends after we had come back in from searching, and I happened to notice I had cat hair all over my pants legs. I just wanted to bawl all over again. I know there are many pressing issues out there that need prayer, but I have had my cat since he was eight months old, and he means a lot to me. I would appreciate your prayers for his safe return.

peculiar_lady2 -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/30/2008 12:48:52 AM)

awwww......I sure will pray!!!! (my cat of 13 years disappeared right before hurricane rita hit where my mom lives...so I totally understand)

Kath -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/30/2008 12:56:45 AM)

ah, FPK, I'm so sorry. I hope he gets back quick.

agapetos -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/30/2008 5:10:48 AM)

I hope he gets back quick too ~ have you contacted local vets and shelters to see if anyone has taken him in?

I had a housecat that got outside and was gone for nearly 2 weeks - we had actually given up on her, but one night she just shows up on the doorstep. I was so happy, I think I cried for an hour.

So, don't give up...and we'll keep praying.

furrypurrykitty -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/30/2008 3:05:46 PM)

Tut still hasn't come back home. I tried to call the local humane society this morning and was appalled and infuriated to find out that they're closed on Wednesday! I went back out this morning and just walked around calling him, then drove around the neighborhood in the car, but didn't find him. My hope is diminished a little, but every time I think of him - and it seems that everything at home reminds me of him - I pray that God will bring him home to me.

phosadaud -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/30/2008 8:56:50 PM)

(((furrypurrykitty))) and (((Tut)))

Prayers going up here as well! [:(] My Sadie tries to sneak out sometimes and it always gives me a heart attack!

After reading several articles online and getting some suggestions from cat people on Crosswalk, I now have a plan of action: When I get off work, I'm going to go home and open a can of tuna and put it on the back steps, since I think it's more likely that he went that way rather than out front and toward the road (he's terrified of traffic, and the street in front of my house is busy). I'm also going to set his litter box and a basket of my dirty laundry out on the porch. Tomorrow I'm going to contact the humane society and make up some flyers to post in the neighborhood. I'm also going to look into running an ad in the Lost and Found section of the paper. I feel a little better now that I've figured out what to do.

My Simba shows me every day just how stubborn he is.For instance today I gave him some milk in an icecream bowl,and he turned his nose up at it.After I put it in his food dish he lapped it up just fine.Gee wiz,Lord forbid its in the wrong dish. Lol.

I continue to pray. I know that Shadow got out one time at night, and with her being black and not knowing what to do outside, I was in a panic. She finally showed herself after the commotion stopped and she felt safe to come "out". I then grabbed her and we went inside (after I fell into several bushes). I was NOT losing my grip on her. I'm sure I hurt her, but I didn't care at that point. I just wanted her inside.

I so feel your pain. Truly, I do!

furrypurrykitty -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/31/2008 7:31:20 PM)

Thank you for your sympathy - I've run across some people who apparently want to be helpful, but can't seem to say the right thing. I was talking to one friend today who asked how long I had had Tut, and when I told her 15 years, she said, "Well, you may not have had him much longer anyway because he's old." Was that supposed to make me feel better?

Another friend called, and I hesitated to tell her what had happened because I didn't think her reaction would be helpful (she tends to want to "fix" instead of sympathize). I was right. After asking me a bunch of questions about how Tut got out (the wind blew the back door open and there was just enough of an opening with the chain on for him to squeeze through), she started yammering about how I should call my landlord and tell him he needs to fix the door. I finally lost my temper and said, "That's the least of my concerns! I'm concerned about him being out there cold and alone and hungry!" Then she started asking me did I look in the crawl space under the house (no way I know of he could get under there - no openings), under the neighbors' cars... I finally told her I had to leave for the Humane Society to file a lost report.

I keep hoping he will come home. A friend of mine had a similar story to someone here, kitty was gone for 2 weeks then showed up. Kids got so excited they scared him off and he was gone a bit more but he did come home and is all safe now. I hope it turns out just as well for you. I know you are heartbroken. {{{FPK}}}

furrypurrykitty -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/31/2008 7:51:38 PM)

A lady at work told me her Persian went missing and then came back home eight weeks later. She was in rough shape, rail-thin with huge mats in her fur, but after some time and a lot of loving care, she recovered and is still with her family today.

There were two pretty kitties in cages in the front office of the humane society today; they were poking their paws through the cage wires as if to say, "Pet me! Pay attention to me! Take me home with you!" I wished I could have.

There have been some incredible stories of kitties who went missing for days, weeks, months and even years to turn up, sometimes slightly the worse for wear...

Cats are cannie critters and so often take care of themselves (while causing their staff to turn grey) when they need to.

furrypurrykitty -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (2/1/2008 7:50:48 PM)

I made a "lost cat' flyer today and had a photo I wanted to use, but no way to scan it. I called Kinko's, and they wanted $7 to scan the photo and $10 to put it into the document, plus 8-10 cents per b/w copy! I racked my brain trying to think of someone who might have a scanner, and suddenly thought of the church down the street where I participate in some activities. I called and they did have a scanner they said I could use. Not only did I get to scan the photo, but one of the assistants made me some color copies! I was so grateful. I went to my neighbors' houses and only one of them was home, so I taped a flyer to the others' doors.

Please keep praying for me and Tut. I especially dread telling my mother this weekend, because I'm afraid she's going to ask a bunch of questions and/or say something inappropriate and get me all upset.

I sent an e-mail to some friends, and one of them e-mailed back, I'M PRAYING FOR YOU AND TUT. LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU FIND HIM. THE CAPITAL LETTERS ARE FOR EMPHASIS.

Do any of you volunteer with homeless kitties at the humane society? I've thought about doing that, but I'm afraid I'd get attached to them and it would break my heart if any of them were put down.

my grandparents cat got lost the day before they left where they were (they spend the winter in FL in their motor home). They couldn't find him. They ended up looking and looking, and leaving info in all the right places. A few weeks later (3-4) their 13yo cat showed back up at that park and the manager found him...called my grandparents. They immediately drove back down to get him. He had lost a lot of weight, but he was fine. He lived to be 19yo...so he lived a lot longer. They finally had to put him down because of cancer at 19.

still praying.
