(mods...not sure where to put this....is this the right folder?)

Are you a cat lover?
Do you have any furry friends of your own?
Care to discuss them?
If so then this is the place for you!!!

Yep, I am a cat lover. Right now, we have one, indoor, declawed, calico kitty who is just a sweetheart![:)] I LOVE her personality and she is great with my kids (6yrs and 17months). We decided. a few years ago, to get another cat from our local shelter because our other cat had run away.[:(] I walked in the door of the shelter and looked around and saw her and knew almost instantly I wanted to adopt her. We have had her almost three years and I have no complaints. As I am typing this post, she is laying right next to me purring and asleep.[:)] All is well in my little corner of the world. Yeppers, I would definitely describe myself as a "cat lover."

We are the proud "parents" of 13 rescue cats, several with health issues, and including two ferals that we trapped, neutered and then kept! In addition, we provide food and outdoor housing for a 1-eyed, 2 legged feral named "Limpy" who winters on our front porch.

In addition to our own cats, I am actively involved in animal rescue and help fundraise, transport and foster for several local no-kill animal rescues. In 2007, I fostered 38 kittens ... all of whom were vetted, vaccinated, speutered, microchipped, and adopted out to loving homes.

6 of our cats are orange tabbies, 5 are black and white, one is a grey tabby, and one is grey and white. 4 are long-haired cats. 2 used to be feral, and 2 are polydactyls (extra toes!) 5 are female. They range in size from 6 pounds (Megan) to about 20 pounds (Daniel and Gracie ... both Maine Coon mixes.) Our youngest two (Mac n' Meg) were born in June 2007, our oldest two (Daniel and Gracie) turned 7 last September.

All of our cats are speutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and inside-only. We have nine kitty condos (cat trees) spread throughout five rooms in our 4 bdr house, as well as special window ledge seats for kitties in three other rooms. There's a cat door on our bedroom door as well as on the guest room door ... and the wall of our family (up near the ceiling) is lined with carpeted "Katwalks."

We have four extra-large covered cat boxes (2 in one bathroom, 2 in the laundry room) that are scooped twice daily and share their space with HEPA air filters. We have two feeding stations set up as well, one on each half of our house. All of our cats are brushed at least once every other day... and it's not uncommon for us to sleep with 5 cats (and sit on the couch at night with just as many!) We free feed our kitties with Science Diet Sensitive Stomach mixed with Science Diet Sensitive Skin, and we give wet food about once a week as a treat.

Our Kitties' names:

Daniel
Gracie
Tigger
Molly
Miss Cricket
Mr. Whiskers
Pumpkin
Smudge
Fuzzball (my avatar photo)
Scampi
Emily
McIntosh (Mac)
Megan (Meg)

conrack50 -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/19/2008 7:35:03 AM)

Yes, I have 7 children with fur in my house. Every adult is spayed/neutered.
The ages range from the 2 grumpy old men(Bandit & Duke) which are 14. Bandit is a seal point siamese, Duke's just a DSH.The youngest is Boogie which is around 4 months now. He is ready to go for shots & neutering. I have an entire family of 3 sisters(Kosmo,Ms. Fuzzi and Boo) and their brother Big Kitty that was brought in off my patio 3 years ago.
There's an outdoor cat that comes to my front porch for food & shelter that's called Ms. Red, because of the red collar she had on when she was dumped here(she's spayed). And I have an outdoor family of a brother(Blackie) and his sister(sissy)that are on my patio.
They are both feral. After 3 years I am able to pet sissy and even pick her up for about 5 seconds.Blackie still growls but will come to the food bowl if I'm sitting by it now.

Every cat I have is a rescue and I am very glad to be able to provide food, shelter and proper medical care for them when necessary.
My goal this winter is to get sissy to the vet for spaying. Then I'll deal with Blackie.
When I sleep I have 4 cats on the bed, when I sit on my couch there's always someone jumping up by me for affection which is freely given.
My husband & I laugh more at the cats for entertainment than what's on tv.
I'm proud to be a Cat Lover!! Connie Lou

YAY!! A Cat thread!!!

Me and hubby love us some kitties! Right now we have two cats-we'd have more but well...our house is already a zoo with two cats and a dog who thinks she's a cat!

We both grew up on farms that have many many yard and barn cats, we love 'em all. We picked our two out from hubby's parents and snatched them from the hay pile, and they have been spoiled rotten ever since.

Their names are Zippy...he's 'mine'. I had him picked out from early on, but when he was ready to come home and hubby went to get him for me, he came back begging for the black one, so we got Shadow as well. We were going to name her "Zoom", "Zip and Zoom" however, she doesnt zoom, she lurks in the shadows. That cat can be in a room with you and you never even know it. Zippy...now he zips, everywhere.

Here are some pictures of our babies.

Shadow on her favorite spot.
Zippy
Why I know my hubby will be a good daddy one day....this is when Zippy was MUCH smaller
The whole gang, how I spent 2 months with a broken foot!

Grace-N-Mercy -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/19/2008 9:54:11 AM)

On Oct. 8, my neighbor found an abandoned little kitten in the backyard, and he found my heart ever since. He's an orange tabby, about three months old now, and full of energy. He was bottle fed the first few weeks until he easily transitioned to dry food.

He keeps me company when I have to study in the evenings, and he makes sure I take my breaks. [:D] He's not very patient yet, but we're working on that. He loves to go to my parents' house to play - my dad and the boys love to play with him. Even my parents' cat, who is getting old, enjoys the little one. One thing they do is take a fishing pole and attach a mouse to the end - they love watching him jump in the air and do aerobatics. [8D] And he loves the stimulation.

We are buying a Ragdoll for $700.00 on Monday and were very exceited! We've had cats in the past, but never paid more than $100.00 for them. We've adopted a few in the past and took a kitten in a few years ago, but she died.

Auben -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/19/2008 11:48:30 AM)

We have 2 cats:

a little polydactyl half-manx named Lydia
a laid-back tom named Daniel Striped Tiger (after the Mr. Rogers puppet)

Both are very affectionate and not demanding at all so I don't really get the cat stereotype. Daniel is the hunter. Lydia is the talkative one. [:D] We call Dan and Lydia comes and then goes and meows at him until he comes. Both are indoor cats but Daniel likes to escape in the summer and canvas the neighborhood a bit. Both are fixed but have claws.

We also have a pup but neither of the cats likes him much, yet.

LOL

oh yes...pics are always welcome and encouraged!!!!!

(I will get pics of our brood later today so that they are current pics)
I always grew up with lots of cats...my one grandmother had over 30. One from one of her litters wasn't doing good, so we rescued it and gave it to my other grandma, and that cat lived a long and fulfilled life of 19years. I remember walking up the hill with him in the little bucket up to her house to give it to her...then, because of her attachment and not being able to, hubby and I, 19 years later, took him to the vet to be put down because he was so very sick. He was a HUGE cat too. Once they couldn't find him when they started to leave their Fl vacation spot (they winter there), and he was lost for several months...then showed up one day at the office door. They called my grandparents and they headed down there to pick him up. He had lost over 5 lbs in his adventures, but he gained it all back pretty fast and was back to his old self. He OWNED their house!!!! He was a beauty too!!!!!

Anyway....I grew up around lots of cats...can't tell you how many we had growing up...we were the house that all the strays stayed at, so at times I am sure we had over 20 outside cats alone!!!
When I was 13 my mom came home with a little barely 6 week old pure white kitten for me...they were sitting outside of the hair salon she went to. My brother heard that there were also black ones there, and he went back and got one of the black ones. "Angel" and "Mikey" made our lives so wonderful!!!! Angel lived for 13 years. When hubby and I got stationed in Germany a few years ago we left her with my mom in TX. Then about two weeks before Hurricane Rita hit where she lives full force Angel disappeared. We of course assume she died...she couldn't have made it very well on her own...when she was a year and a half a window fell on her and we ended up having to get three pins put in her leg, so she wasn't very dexterous because of that.

Then a few months ago we had a orange tabby show up on our doorstep one night...my nephew was outside and she came up to him. She was pregnant and obviously homeless, but definitely not a stray SWEET SWEET cat. We took her in. Called around, couldn't find her owners, so we kept her. We also kept two kittens from her first litter of kittens. Momma cat is "Belle" (the girls won out in the naming vote..lol). The two older kittens are "David" and "Peachy Queen" (and yes, she does act like the queen of our house...lol). Then right before Christmas Belle had another litter (she is getting fixed in a few weeks!!!). She had five kittens...two orange and white, two black, caramel, and white calico's, and one grey, white, and caramel calico. The two orange kitties died a few days ago (failure to thrive is what the vet said)...and one of our kids (3yo) hurt one of the black calico's and she ended up dying the other day too. It was a hard two days losing three kittens all at once!!!! Now we are down to just one black calico and one grey calico...we are keeping the black one, and someone has already asked us for the grey one when she is weaned.

I will take some pics of them all later...we have an appointment in a few minutes to get taxes done...so when we get back I will do pics of all of them...recent pics...the ones I linked to are older pics.

We have one cat in the house and while I can't say he's my favorite animal we have, I certainly don't hate the guy.

Meepo is almost 2 now. We got him when he was about 2 1/2 months old for a Father's day gift for my writer husband, because "every writer needs a cat." or so I'm told.

Now I don't hate him, but he certainly doesn't like me very much.

Now my Dog on the other hand . . . . .[;)]

Blessings,

Garsy

I got two brothers, Buckwheat and Alfalfa shortly after I moved out on my own and I had them up until a few years ago when they both passed away a year apart from each other. Those boys went all over the country with me. They lived in eastern Washington, Seattle, Michigan and then Nevada where they lived the last of their years. I sure loved those guys and my family could never understand why I went through all the trouble of relocating them with me. My grandma would always ask why I didn't just give them away and then get a new one. Yeah right!!

Then Buckwheat died peacefully on my bed and then almost a year to the date later Alfie went peacefully. Everyone thought I should rush right out and get another but I just couldn't. That was really hard for me and I still miss them. They will never be able to be replaced. I'm currently living in an apartment that doesn't allow pets and lately have been really regretting that. I started out thinking I wanted to get a little dog but I have a feeling I'll end up getting a cat. It's strange it took me a few years before I was even ready to have another. Due to my job situation I will most likely be moving in the next several months and I'm going to definitely push to find a place that will allow me to have a pet and then I'll go to the shelter where I've volunteered and adopt one (or two). I can't wait!! They have had some of the coolest residents while I've helped out there.

utilityfielder -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/19/2008 10:21:12 PM)

I currently have two cats. They are litter mates who will be 11 years old in June. They are mixed breeds, part Siamese, part domestic shorthair, and who knows what else.

The name of the male is Pentax and the female is Konica. I do like to give my cats unusual names. I have usually named them after racehorses, but when I got these two I did not like the names of the horses that were prominent at the time.

I have two cats,Simba and Ginger.
Simba is about 3 and he is soo adorable.He is my playful,funny
and clever little orange tabby.He follows me around and is definately my baby.

Ginger is really pretty and can be really sweet when she wants but boy is she moody.My mom says thats how coon cats are.She is also sensitive and hates to be teased.Simba is a huge tease and goes after poor Ginger every day.Im surprised she hasn't killed him yet.Lol.

I love cats sooo much.They are so cute and cuddly.

furrypurrykitty -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/19/2008 11:49:50 PM)

My sealpoint Siamese's name is King Tut (from my mother, who said he acts like he thinks he's royalty), but it's a wonder he doesn't answer to Oh Hush or Get Down because that's what I say to him all the time. I got him when he was eight months old from an elderly neighbor lady who had to go to the nursing home because she had Alzheimer's. He nearly drove me crazy at first because, although I've had many cats over the years, I had never had one that was so bouncy and mouthy. We got used to each other, though, and now we understand each other pretty well. As a 15-year-old feline senior citizen, his three favorite activities are sleeping, eating and sitting in my lap. He has been a great source of companionship and entertainment over the years. Maybe he'd say the same about me! But I'll tell you right now, Siamese are the criminal geniuses of the cat world. There have been times he's figured out things that I never thought he would. I weighted the kitchen trash can so he couldn't tip it over, so now he climbs inside it, using the recycle bin as a stepladder. He does stuff like this constantly. It makes life interesting.

stellaluna -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/20/2008 2:50:19 AM)

My torti-point Siamese is Bijou. She's about 7 years old now and moderately crazy. I had a Russian Blue named Bronte until about a year ago, when she ran away. We looked high and low for weeks and never found her.

My favorite cat of all time was the one we got when I was in fourth grade. A part-Siamese yellow-striped cat named Herman. He was very grumpy. He didn't liked to be touched and would bite if you tried. He never purred either. Whenever he wanted outside in the night, he would walk back and forth on our piano keys until someone got up to let him out. If the cover was down over the keys, he would sit in the middle of the living room floor and howl. And I do mean HOWL. When my mom would put my three brothers to bed, she would put Herman in the doorway to their bedroom. He would stay there. If any of them tried to leave the room, he would claw them. They didn't often try to get out of bed. Once we bought a house across town and Herman disappeared during the move. Several months later, he showed up at our new house. A couple of years after that, my dad got real sick and had to be in the hospital for a couple of weeks. All of us kids were staying with our grandmother. One night, about a week after my dad was admitted, my mom was sitting in his hospital room and heard a cat howl outside. She thought it sounded like Herman, but that would be crazy. She got up and opened the curtains and Herman was sitting on the window sill outside my dad's room. She walked outside and found him sitting next to our van. She opened the door, he hopped in and she brought him to our grandmother's house so he could stay with us. He died after I went to college and we've all missed him ever since.

I forgot to add that my cats name is Lexie and she is microchipped! We are running a business and have two small children in a 1400 sq.ft home so, needless to say, we are short on space and that is why we only have one cat. We plan to move in the next few years and will adopt some more then. [sm=kitty.gif][sm=kitty2.gif]. I also want to adopt at least one big dog, too. I am not a real fan of small dogs but that is a whole nother topic. [;)]

I LOVE cats. Been a cat lover all my life. When I was a little girl our neighbor hood was full of stray cats. I took care of many as I could. I even hade a bottle of perxiode under the kitchen sink labled CATS MED. I have passed this gene to my kids. Now my girls are bringing home cats. That latested is Jimi, came to me with half tail gone and limping. The sweetest Gray cat ever. Jimi is getting ready to be neutered. I "fix" all my animals. In my old neighbor hood I was known as the "Cat Lady" would trap the feral cats. Take the babies and love'em and find homes. I am up to 5 indoor. I also have 2 dogs. And when my friend comes over she calls my big couch "the Ark" because the lay all over the armrest on the back, in your lap. And each one has it own personality. The oldest cat I ever had live to be 18. My oldest right now is 12. My babies. Fred, Punky, ZU ZU, Miss Priss and Jimi.

I once saw a t-shirt, it have all these cats waiting at the Pearly Gates, and they were say...." Hey about time you got here" Been waiting on you" etc. cutest shirt....I sure hope it is true......As Willie Nelson would say......All the cats I loved before....come and in and out my door....[:D]

I am pretty clueless when it comes to polls, but I know if you click edit there is a link next to the title to add a poll. It looks like you have another hour or so to add it before you get locked out of editing.

MyCatSmokey2006 -> RE: Let's Talk Cats!!!! (1/20/2008 10:17:00 PM)

I love kitties! My cat Smokey, in my avatar, is a 10 year old Silver Persian who thinks he's a goat sometimes because he tries to eat weird things. He is so soft and fluffy, he just cuddles up on my chest and purrs as I pet him before I go to sleep each night.

He doesn't like washing his rear end after using his box, so we have to do it. [:'(] While I can sympathize with him on that issue, (I wouldn't want to do that either! [:'(][:D]), I wish he would figure out that it's his job to clean up after himself and take the initiative to do so. [&:]

He also has developed a bad habit of peeing all over the house. We've tried everything we can think of and he still does it. [:@] All in all though, he's just so lovable that outside of circumstances beyond my control, I wouldn't part with him for anything or anyone!

EDITED to add that I just saw the poll and I checked that my cat is not microchipped and I wouldn't do it. I don't believe in torturing animals with injections of unnecessary things that could one day be used against us when the Antichrist rules the earth.
