I know some churches do it for the fact that so many couples want to get married there that the facility is a high demand. I think the more important reason is to ensure accountability of the couple to ensure they are actively involved in the Body.

I think it's a good thing. I know of several people who joined churches just because they want to get married there. It just doesn't seem right. It's just a challenge for us right now, but I'll keep calling around. I would like stick with a church that believes close to what we believe. I'll keep you all posted on what happens :) Thanks for the advice.

Megan, I would just call around...my church will allow others to marry there and you don't have to be a member or use our preacher but they will charge a small fee. Anyways I hope you find the right place :)

Well I got bridesmaids dresses done... finding one for my sister was tough...she had hard time finding one that looked good and didnt show much...but we found one and have ordered the other 2 for my other sister and my soon to be sister in law lol and I got my shoes so I am all set.

now to continue on with more wedding stuff lol

Most places I spoke with it was the same thing. Members get it for free or really cheap, but non-members have to pay a fee.

We paid $75.00 for our church for the Pastor, premarital counseling, and use of the church, then they brought in cleaners to clean up after the wedding so I did not have to deal with that. I think it was a bargin. :)

Hmm. How about chocolate dipped strawberries...appetizer style foods like cheese, crackers and grapes, hickory sausage, mini crab cakes, etc...?

Or you can go to Sam's Club on a Saturday and sample their fare. They usually have a lot of different appetizer stuff ready for sampling. (And you get a free meal. lol)

There has been a change in my wedding plans. We have been in counseling since June and we still arent finished but we are near the end. We didnt imagine it would take this long but its due to the Pastor cancelling some sessions due to prior engagements. Since we are living together and seeing how hard its becoming to remain pure, we are going to move the wedding date up. Once we complete counseling, we are going to Justice of Peace to seal the deal. We are still planning a ceremony for 2009 for our family and friends and we will renew our vows and have a reception. There is no way that we can dish out money right now for the wedding we want. It was a tough decision but it had to be made.

Sounds like a good plan Aisha. You both seem ready to be married in all aspects so bumping the date for purity reasons is a good thing. My boss never had a wedding! I am encouraging her to have one when they renew their vows for their 10 year anniversary.

Fluff, do you have friends that can help you make the food?

Trish, This sweet lady that works with my mom is going to help me and I feel very blessed that she will be helping me because she can help with food and decorating reception place and she is awesome!

Also I see that you changed your name again and I think its lovely :)

Aisha, I don't blame you for changing the date so you cant married...because like you said you can always have a cermony and Reception later :) and I know many people who didn't even have wedding cermonys just went to preachers house and got married and they didn't regret it.... and they are all still happly married!

So when will your consouling be done with?

It's been pretty busy around here. We decided to move our date up to August 1, 2009. (Or that's the plan for now) We did it for honeymoon reasons. I'm a teacher's aide and I only get 5 sick days and 1 personal day each school year. If we did it in September I would use all of my days at the very beginning of the year. We don't have a lot of money to go anywhere fancy or tropic, but we want to take at least a week somewhere, so we figure going while I'm on summer break would be our best bet. So now I'm seriously looking for ceremony and reception sites!

I've found a couple of churches that would let me have the ceremony there for a fee. Most of them are 400-500. One church charges 1125, plus extra for use of their equipment and other things! That's too steep for me!

Megan August sounds good, I hope you find a place... that is crazy how some churches charge outrageous prices...Mine was free but if I use the fellowship hall and kitchen then they charge me a clean up fee...and few small ones for different things ...anyways I am sure you will find some where just pray about it! Well when you went to the wedding festival did you hear about cermony and reception places? maybe look around online you may find a good place and alot times if you call some will work things out with you that are not in their packages and such.

Trish Oooh what fun :)

Well, I think we have finally found our church & reception site! My grandparents church, First Christian Church in Independence is going to let us get married there for no charge! That's the church I grew up in. They will also let our pastor perform the ceremony for us, so that's a bonus! The Presebterian church across the street will let us use their fellowship hall for really cheap too. It's actually a seperate building that's closer to our church than the Presb. church. The only thing I didn't like about the church (and I'm over it now) is that there isn't a center aisle. If everything works out, I will be one happy camper!

I got my ring last night! It seemed like it took forever to get it sized, but in reality it was only 5 days. We are going to talk to the wedding coordinator tonight at the church and I'm taking my FI to see the possible reception site as well.
