What type of room are you doing, Erin? And what are you organizing/storing?

ORIGINAL: paulsbride If it's 'brand name' do you think it's worth it? In a couch, the main thing you are paying for is the frame and the quality of fabric. If the frame is great and in good condition, it could be worth $150. Since you will want to recover it (I wouldn't live on someone elses fabric they had been using for 25 years, but I'm a bit OC about such things,) the quality of the fabric won't be a concern. Paying $150 plus recovering it sounds like a good deal to me for a quality item.

Someone from church has offered us their couch for $150 - I forget the brand (I think she's charging for the brand) but they've had it since they got married, and I think they were married 25+ years ago. She said we'd probably want to recover it... it seems like a lot of money for a second hand couch If it's 'brand name' do you think it's worth it? Honestly, I just don't think it is. In my opinion. You can go a lot of places and get a brand new couch for around $275-300 (like Big Lots) and there is a lifetime warranty on the frame (I know ours has one, and it came from a discount store). Paying $150 for a 25+ yr. old, plus recovering (that can be a headache) . . . . almost worth it just to go spend the same amount of money on a new one with a warranty.

Oh wow! What a perfect fabric choice for your chairs, Jessica! Great job! About the couch, its hard to say without knowing more about the couch. If it is quality and just what you want in size and style, maybe. However, look into what you will have to pay to have it recovered, that is not cheap. Definately look at new couches...furniture stores are suffering in this economy and are offering some nice savings just to drum up business.

I love those chairs and the fabric you chose!! The cost of re-upholstery would vary depending on the fabric you chose, the amount of fabric needed, the quality of the workman you chose, and the style of the couch. I'd call some upholsterers in your area and ask if they could give you an estimate. I agree with Jen- look at new couches. You can find some that aren't as expensive as you might think.

I have loved looking at all the pictures of everyone's home as well as reading the post. I have finally got a photobucket account so I should be able to post some pictures of our house soon. I did post pictures of Hunter's nursery this morning in the nursery thread. This is a fun thread!

OK, ladies, I have some updated house pictures. The painting is done! We move in on 2/27. Here is the kitchen before. Here is the kitchen with the first shade of OOPS wayyyy too bright day-glo red. Here is the kitchen after, with the corrected color. I love it! The painters were so nice and redid it for only the cost of the paint. I was thankful for that. They also painted the hall closet without me even asking, and I later asked them to add the hall bath to their original bid but they did it for free! I loved our painters. Here is another view, showing the breakfast area. Also note the new and improved backsplash, with the green paint removed and the pink tiles painted red. Here is the fireplace mantel with the molding I bought at Lowe's and asked the painters to install. Here is the finished mantel. Here is the master bedroom before Here is the master bedroom after Here is the master bath before; you can see a glimpse of the torn wallpaper inside Here is the master bath after being textured and painted Here is another of the master bath Here is the office before (was previously a child's bedroom) Here is the office after, with the purple wall my husband asked to have in honor of his beloved alma mater, TCU. I agreed that he should do it, without any argument at all, and now I have been getting tons of "wife points" from both him and his jealous buddies. He got the official NCAA team color paint, even. Here is one of the other bedrooms after, showing both the new carpet and the new paint.

Thanks!! The toile/black curtains are pretty, but I had to take them down because they don't match our bedding. However, the hall bath will have a toile theme because it came with this interesting cornice thing and all black hardware. I have the toile shower curtain but haven't put it up yet. Bath pic

Bethany, what a beautiful home you have...I bet you are excited to move in! I am excited because for once I made a decision regarding home decor and didn't second guess myself. I was at Target today and found canvas jungle art for $12.99. There were four different prints in the series and I bought all four. The guest bathroom is done in this THEME to match Hunter's room, plus its unisex in case we ever have a girl. Though the art work doesn't match exactly it matches close enough and looks very cute in there. I will try to take pictures when I can and post them.

Thanks, everyone! This is my first foray into decorating with color. My house growing up had all white walls and so did my apartments, so it was an interesting experiment. I love how everything turned out in the end. Our new bedroom furniture was delivered today, and one of the bed posts was broken! We are going to have to go look at the floor model tomorrow to see if we want that one instead, or just keep the current bed (they are repairing the post). And somewhere in there, I have to pack!!!
