Yellow Gingham with Crib I like the yellow gingham in the room but I think with my choice of furniture color (natural) that it looks washed out. Agree? Disagree?

disagree...I think it looks very soothing.

I think you have too many fabrics with patterns...conflicting patterns. You need more solids to blend in there to pull them all together.

I personally would do the gingham or another more solid looking material for the majority of the stuff, then use the other fabrics on accents (like you said, the diaper holder, basket liners, etc). I don't like the look of that check with those patterns though....maybe because I just don't see the connection to yellow in them. If it were blue gingham then I could see the connection...or even red....but I don't see it to yellow.

For curtains, you could figure out your main focal material and make the major part of the curtains out of that (the check material maybe?) then along the inside of the two panels (where they come together) and the bottom you could to a 6-8 in ch strips of the other material...just to tie it in together. Then use another of the coordinating fabrics for the tie backs or a valence if you like that look.

As far as sheets goes, I would just buy a package of basic colored sheets...it's not like the pretty, fancy ones (like that come to match the bedding sets) are really going to be the only sheets you use on the bed...babies will tend to make messes on sheets very easily, so solid colored sheets that are in basic colors are usually (IMO of course) the easiest and best way to go.

Erin-
I vote no for the new fabric. I don't mind the fabric itself, but not in combination with the other ones. Too much stuff going on, and that's more of a red fabric, while the others are blues.
As for the gingham, I don't think it's too much with your furniture, depending on how much you use. If you only had the blue walls, natural furniture, and yellow gingham, it probably would look washed out. But with your other blue fabrics, I don't think it will at all. Blue and yellow are very good together (and popular) so I don't see a problem with the color combination, either.

I don't really care for the yellow gingham on the crib. Another thought is that the white and yellow may stain from spit up and baby messes depending on where you use it... I would probably go for something solid and then use the puppy prints as accents or curtains.

I also don't like the yellow with the crib color, or the new fabric. I don't have any other ideas, just wanted to throw in my votes on those two.

Thanks for the input. I have thrown out the yellow...unless I use it for curtains. But its too "blah" on the crib.

I MAY use the blue for the bumper pads and dust ruffle and an organizer thingy to hang on the crib.(for the sheets I think I'll just buy a pack of solids at walmart, no point in making them since they'll be changed and soiled so often. I think the blue it too much for curtains. I think for that I'll either use the yellow or get another solid. Or after tomorrow I may have to go with a whole new theme....

You can always save the doggie fabric for a future child, Erin. I have a whole crib set of Pirate themed bedding

If it is a girl what about just doing a shabby chic sort of blue, white, and pale pink?

Oh, is your paint in that room flat?

That sounds pretty.

Yeah, thats why I went ahead and bought the fabric months ago, it was too perfect to pass up and you never can have too much fabric. But I am waiting to find out boy or girl before I start sewing!

I THINK it has a slight gloss to it, maybe a semi gloss. We didnt paint it ourselves, it was that color when we moved in, but we both liked it so we kept it.

I'd go a head and use the gingham on the windows and find a way to accent it with the doggie fabrics. Maybe gingham panels with a blue doggie valance/ cornice?

speaking of ginghams...I use navy blue gingham in my kitchen and our local wal-mart is selling all their fabric to include assorted colors of gingham at $1 a yard! I bought like 8 yards

nothing to do with baby rooms, but ya know

gingham and all

Would it look too busy if I made a rough "patchwork" out of doggy fabric and the gingham? Or maybe a solid? I am using the striped fabric for the dust ruffle (I think) and the more themed pattern for the bumper pads. Not sure where to use the one with the allover bones. Though to have enough I may make the bumper pads with one fabric on the inside and one on the outside.

I wouldn't do the "patchwork" because the doggie fabric is already "patchwork" looking.

I like the stripe as the skirt. I would probably do the bumper pad two-sided with the doggie and bones fabrics. I'd take the yellow gingham and make floor length panels, with the bones fabric as tiebacks. I'd take the doggie fabric and do a valance, probably trimmed with the bones fabric. I'd make throw pillows or wall art (stapled over wooden frames) out of any leftover fabric for scattering around the room.

You are going to let us know if it's a boy or girl tomorrow? I'm very excited for you!!

Well duh...of course! After I make all the phone calls first...mom, MIL, SIL, all my aunts, cousins, friends, and everyone else who said "call me as soon as you find out!"

Great ideas Zippy!!

Ryanne - you bought the pirate bedding?! I've decided the next time I have a baby I'm choosing the bedding and not just settling on something because it's 'cute' and free. I still like that sailboat one you and Kim found at walmart!

Yeah, my mom bought it for us before we knew what we were having, now I can hardly even find accent pieces for that set but we did find an AWESOME pirate ship at Ross the other day. Obviously I had to buy it

I'm not We still technically have 2 more months before my OB is comfortable with us trying again, lol. I figure if it doesn't work for us then I'll just gift someone with the entire set, or I could sell it on Ebay or something.

Why 2 more months? What have I missed?

I am very content with the set up of our nursery. I think I'll like the bedding better after my friend sends me the curtains she's making to match the set. I'm actually pretty content with our whole apartment right now. I wish I had a head board, but I can live without that. I can't wait until the time/year/century when we actually have our very own home. I could paint the apartment walls, but I'd have to paint them back to white before we moved out and I'm just too lazy to do that. LOL
