I like it Nicole, it's very fresh and open. It looks like a nice big workable space.

our neighbors are moving so they are having a garage sale today.....we got a kitchen table with four chairs and a coffee table and two end tables....all for $45!!!!!!!!!! They aren't perfect, but O can fix them pretty easily. These were the two sets of items we still needed furniture wise, so now we are set!!!!!!!
(camera battery is charging today so I will take pics of them later.)

That's awesome Sarah!! What a bargain!!

Luckily I didn't sign the papers without hubby seeing, as he mentioned that we should probably have the dishwasher on the right of the sink as that's the way we would normally load it from the right, so on Monday I will ask them to move it.
And we will be able to fit a table into that area which means the old dining room part can be a family room! WOO HOO

Oh, for flooring we are thinking of getting that click laminate timber boards.

Nicole I really like it. I think your hubby is right though about having the dishwasher on the right.

I'm not doing any new decorating right now, but I did buy myself a new wet/dry vacuum so that I can clean my own carpets.

Haven't tried it yet. I've just pulled it out of the box and am beginning to read the instructions. I've banished the kids from helping put it together. That way, if anything goes wrong, I know it was somthing I did, not their fiddling.... ah, I mean, helping.

Nicole, the click floor is very popular around here. We have it in Chase's bedroom, and we're planning to put it in our bedroom and the new bedrooms we are adding. We're putting hardwood in the living area, and tile in the kitchen.

They don't recommend click floor anywhere that it might get wet (here that would be an entryway in the winter, bathroom etc) because if any moisture gets into it, it bubbles quickly. Just a "warning" if you spill much in the kitchen (like me )

Well we went to look at click laminate flooring, he said that its water resistant. Infact a customers dishwasher flooded and they were able to put down the same flooring still. I think it depends on the underlay and also the quality.
We have chosen the timber laminate colour, same as our benches, its called a light cherry (so light brown basically).
We are getting new carpet in the lounge, halls and bedrooms. They have this awesome mess-defying carpet which is soooooo soft and lovely. We are getting a quote tomorrow. Not sure on what colour to go with. Do you go as close to wall colour as you can or can you go quite away from it like really dark? Any opinions? our walls are a sort of milky coffee colour with lighter up the top. The bedrooms I will just get a light milky sort of colour.

The flooring we just put in most of our house is laminate (cherry colored, 12mm thick, locks together) and it's gorgeous. It was a bear to put down, but well worth the effort and very very easy to clean.

House movers coming tomorrow....excavating starting on wednesday!! Yeesh, this is happening too fast.

We picked out some neutral-ish vinyl flooring for our two bathrooms. One bathroom is a very pale aqua colour, and the other one is orange. I'm not sure which flooring I will put in each bathroom, but it probably doesn't really matter, they were just remnants and they were cheap. Less than 50 cents per square foot.

Does this thread have to be about decorating, or can it be about my house renos too?

After the excavating, hubby will lay the footing course for the basement, then the basement guys will pour the walls, then the house will be moved back onto the foundation and we'll start framing it. Phew, I'm glad I don't have to do most of this work...

The water resistant properties of laminate vary depending on what they mix with the resin. If it's got a lot of melamine, it's more water resistant than a water based solvent. It can vary from product to product and from company to company. Just because it's Pergo doesn't mean anything, for example!!

I think that fits perfectly in here Yolanda!!!

I don't think I put it in here yet...I looked back but didn't see it. Maybe it was only facebook that I put it.....
the other day (friday maybe?) Paul was leaving from lunch and saw that our neighbor across the street was having a moving sale. For $45 he got a table and four chairs for the kitchen eat in area, and two end tables and a matching coffee table for the living room. I will take pics when I can (camera battery needs to be charged and Paul didn't find it today...hopefully tomorrow).

I recovered the chairs...the fabric was..... U-G-L-Y... ugly. Really dirty beige...well stained and obviously hardly ever cleaned. So we steam cleaned them then covered up the seats with black fabric I had. The table top needs some tlc too...someone tried to "fix" two places where the top wood piece came off (I guess it's a laminate type top) with tape.....so I am going to do something to it or we will replace the top....not sure which yet.

the living room tables need some work too.,..re staining for sure where it is worn down to the wood....but they are all solid wood!!!

I am not sure of the laminate, but its the top of the range one, so pretty happy with that. Crystal got any tips on laying it yourself?

We got the carpet, we chose the same carpet throughout the house, same colour. It was only $600 more to get the top of the range carpet (well not top top, but pretty good top) throughout! I am sooooo excited!!!

Sarah- looking forward to those pics!

Yep, don't be a perfectionist. Because if you are, it will be two months and you won't be done yet. Seriously, I didn't realize how much of a perfectionist I am until seeing some "professionally installed" flooring. Nope. No way I'd pay for that.

Otherwise, just do lots of reading and get familiar with the product and its requirements before starting. Buy extra, and measure more than once before making the cuts.

Thanks Crystal! Well hubby is laying it while I am not here... The man did say if he has any problems to give him a call and he can talk him through it.

Standard is to allow for 5% waste, Nicole. If you figure that into you needs, you should be fine because you should have even more extra since it's sold in boxes that most companies won't break- at least that's how it comes in the USA.

Yes its sold in boxes here too. The guy who did the quote for the carpets is also doing the timber flooring so he factored in the 5- 10% waste when he did the order for us. Hubby is very handy. I am sure it won't be too much of a problem for him.

You should be fine, then. It's when you don't allow for waste and won't buy the extra box to get the last few sq inches out of it that you can get into problems... there are actually people put there that do that.

Well as of about an hour ago, the baby's room is finally done!!!! I don't even remember how long ago I was in here asking about paint colors, etc., but I thought you guys might enjoy seeing the final product. As I was uploading these pictures and looking through them I also thought to myself it will be nice having these pictures to remind myself that there was one day where the room looked nice and picked up!

Sarah- stink! I guess I can't really say finally done yet...I forgot about blinds. They are on DH's list for next time he goes to Menards- which is pretty much a daily occurrence for him! That window is south-facing, so we definitely need something to darken it.

Zippy- I do really like it. Really like it! It's very relaxing and calming. And spacious.
