Jessica.....when you do it here are a few hints.....
  • tack the fabric on each side with one or two staples to keep it from shifting, then go back and pull it taught and fill in more staples...do the corners last
  • cut the fabric a couple inches larger then you need and trim after you staple it
  • if you can, fold the fabric into a double layer where you staple so that it doesn't tear the fabric or wear out too easily.

CUTE CUTE Ryanne!!! (I know I told you yesterday, just wanted to say so in here too)

We are living in the house in which I grew up. My family had the basement totally redone 10 years ago. When dh and I got married, we moved out of town, but kept ownership of this house (we rented it out). The gal who rented it totally trashed it, so we have spent the past 2 years trying to clean it up again. We still have a long way to go (time and finances have prevented it from happening any quicker). This weekend we will be pulling up the carpeting in the basement (which she let her animals destroy), painting, and turning the basement into a playroom for the kids, and thhere will also be a section for dh's model trains. We are hoping to have laminate flooring laid down there before the end of the month.

It takes SOOOOOO long to move in!!! lol, no room is really done yet. Our bedroom is getting there, but the walls are all still bare.

I haven't even managed to finish the chairs yet. Paul wasn't able to help me last night, and I can't get the screws out on my own - they're in tight! Maybe I can find his drill...

There's an exhausting amount of stuff to do when you move!! Who knew?

Yeah, it takes forever to move. One thing that really helped me was having the ladies in my family help me unpack while the men moved the furniture. Sure, I had to move a few things to where I could use them better, but it was a huge help to get most of that out of the way.

    But it is exciting!

moving I can handle...the thing that is exhausting to me is organizing a new place....that takes me forever to do. We moved here at the end of May and we are just now getting things really where they work for us here at this house. Just starting on the real decorating too...painting, etc. I have some pics up on some of the walls, but not really where I would put them now....so they will be moved shortly....waiting til I get to the painting when I will move them around.

I totally agree, Sarah. We have been here since July and it really has just been this week that we finally have everything in its "place" and are living in the house like a home.

Now, I am getting the to personal touches that really warm up a place. I will post pics soon of our family room...

Hi ladies. I hope you don't mind me jumping in blind. Via Jessica's instruction *Grin* I am posting my nursery pictures. Mind you, the furniture is where I want it (with some clutter that needs to be removed and or set up). I need some advice for decoration - but mainly STORAGE. I will not have a changing table so I plan on using the floor, his crib, etc. I need an idea to store blankets (there is no room in the dresser or closet) and how to organize the diapers, wipes, etc.

When you look at these pictures kind of imagine me turning in a small circle...

This is what you see when you stand in the doorway:
    1 Pic

This is when you step into the room and look to the left (sorry it's not a large picture so youc an see there is lots of wall space above all of these items)
    Pic Two

    Different shot of that photo:
    3

    And as you turn right...
    4

And as you turn right some more (You can also see the door leading back into the main appt)

    quote:

I need an idea to store blankets (there is no room in the dresser or closet)

we use a small box and we put it under the crib. You can find baskets that are made to go under there, but we just use banana boxes...they fit nicely and are free.

    quote:

and how to organize the diapers, wipes, etc.

did your bedding set come with a diaper holder? those come in handy sometimes....you can hang them on the wall (or on a hanger in the closet) and keep everything together.
For diaper rash meds, I keep a container of wipes not quite filled up with the diapers and just keep the rash medicine in the wipe container on top of the wipes. Then it's there if/when I need it and I am not searching all around for it.
You can also keep the diapers in the top dresser drawer. I like organizing the drawers with shoe boxes (esp the small shoe boxes that baby shoes come in). If you don't have any you can go to the shoe store and see if they have any they are throwing out. If I am feeling industrious I cover them with paper or wrapping paper so they are "pretty". Some other good box4es to help keep things neat in the drawers is the bottom few inches from a cereal box or hamburger helper type box. Just cut them off with scissors or a utility knife and they work great...plus then you can keep things well organized and if hubby is looking for something he easily knows that if the socks aren't in "this" box then there are none and he can stop searching....lol
On baby clothes (or kids clothes) I like to keep the sets folded (actually rolled) together so that hubby doesn't have to be searching all over for the whole set. If I don't do this then my kids would never match!!!

another hint....in your room, keep a small basket with a few diapers, some wipes, meds, and a onesie in it so that when you are back there changing him you have everything you need. Or you can keep a stocked basket in his room or the living room, then when you need to change him you don't have to go round everything up...it's right there.
For a mat to change on...most diaper bags come with a changing mat in them...I just use those. You more then likely will have a few of those hanging around somewhere...with all the bags I have gotten over the years I think I have too many...they don't always get used!!! Now that Jack is older and bigger we use the plastic mattress pad that comes in the bassinet...just no sheet on it. It is fully covered in plastic so it protects the carper, and is bigger then the diaper changing mats from the diaper bag.

Cute room Jae!! I love the furniture!!
    Sarah had good suggestions.
The only other one I might add is you could put blankets or diaper stuff in a basket and store it on top of the dresser.

I have a good picture of the room in my head now, your pictures were good

I'm sure you are so excited, Janine! I'm excited for you

As you work out your routines with baby, you will quickly find you are in certain places in the house at certain times. Put a "changing stash" in every room. I had baskets with diaps, wipes, burp cloths & blankies in drawers, on tabletops...basically not ever very far from where we were. I had a few foam changing table pads with terrycloth removable "sheets" stashed around too.

Are our panning on hanging the plates that are on the table? Or resting them on the wall shelf? That will look nice. You could really run with the teddybears, they are fun to decorate with.

Are the blankets you need to store all little baby ones or do you have crib sized (or larger) quilts?

MaMaKitty - what an EYE you have!!!!!!!!!! Yup, I'm going to try and find a cheap plate holder for hang the plates. I have four of them.

At this point I've got burp clothes and a few blankets the size of his crib blanket.

I wonder if I should register for baskets or just buy them myself.

A couple more storage ideas I've done in my nursery:

The big plastic tubs with lids, like at Wal-mart, work well for storing these. I've got one of those beside my rocking chair. I store stuff inside, put a pretty baby blanket on top, then it looks nice and doubles as a "table" for beside the chair.

Dollar General sells (or used to sell!) a mesh shower caddy with several pockets and a hangar. I found this worked perfectly for diapers, wipes, powder, etc. with all the pockets.

    Sarah's ideas were awesome!

Jae, Michael's or Walmart have decent priced plate hangers.

Ok, I have a dilemma. I don't quite have enough fabric for seat cushions in the dining room. The red fabric on the microwave cart is the same as the valance in the living room, and the yellow isn't used anywhere else. I *think* I want some red toile but I don't want to end up with it being to "busy" or even blocky feeling. I want the 2 rooms to flow together since it's such a small space. If I do throw pillows in the both the red floral and a red toile, and then the dining room cushions in red toile and the yellow buttercream would that tie in ok?

    Hmm...

I'm also in the process of spray painting our old dining room chairs and part of the table black, the top of the table is a butcher block and will get stained an almost cherry color to match the rest of our wood.

Those fabrics would be great together in the places you mentioned. I would also put a bit of red and butter cream on your walls in pictures, a wreath, a plate, a shelf with red accessories. You will want to spread the red evenly around the entire room for balance. Itherwise, your eye will be drawn to the couch and the rest of the room will feel bare- even if you fill it up with other stuff.

well, this weekend I wasn't feeling so good, so I only got the back of four doors done....yesterday it was too cold to paint anyway. Eventually I will finish the kitchen!!! I have a feeling Paul will have to do the cabinets on the top though...I was getting too dizzy standing on the ladder last week when I was trying to do some work on them.

We did get a shelf put together in the kitchen though...and got a microwave!!!! Now I just have to remember how to use one...lol
