But as my dad used to say,"every day is children's day". As a kids I just stared at him. As an adult, I understand.

BTW, my daughter and her sweetheart are taking us to a brazilian steak house...all the meat you can eat until you can't eat no more.

Cloak, I think it's an all inclusive, pick the holiday thread. Carl just sort of started it as a joke, so it's whatever one wants it to be. We have those from time to time.

Thanks Kath for reassuring me that I was on the right track! [:)]

Kath -> RE: Christmas, 2008 (6/13/2008 12:59:51 AM)

[sm=smile.gif] You're welcome.

Covaan_Meshuga -> RE: Christmas, 2008 (6/13/2008 1:29:33 AM)

So, Cloak, Happy Juneteenth, Father's Day, Flag Day, Queen's Birthday, America's Cup Week, Graduation Month, Wedding Month, Dairy Month. And I am sure there are more holidays we can talk about, but maybe these will do for now. [:D]

Oh, here goes ....we are celebrating Canada day within....a few days. [sm=flagcanadian.jpg]; so that is something....cute and fun, hopefully at the new place I am moving in to!!!

Covaan_Meshuga -> RE: Christmas, 2008 (6/13/2008 12:36:25 PM)

From Wiki, regarding Juneteenth:
quote:

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is an annual holiday or holiday observance...[c]elebrated on June 19....However, some...states...do not consider it a legal holiday and do not close government offices in observance of the occasion. Its informal observance has spread to some other states, with a few celebrations even taking place in other countries.

As of June 2008, 29 states[6] have recognized Juneteenth as either a state holiday or state holiday observance; these include Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Delaware, Idaho, Alaska, Iowa, California, Wyoming, Missouri, Connecticut, Illinois, Louisiana, New Jersey, New York, Colorado, Arkansas, Oregon, Kentucky, Michigan, New Mexico, Virginia, Washington, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Vermont and North Carolina, as well as the District of Columbia.

So that's a good day to celebrate -- even in Canada!

And so is Car2ner's Friday the 13! Think I'll celebrate it by not cooking dinner tonight hee-hee!

[:D][;)][:)] You so sweet and funny Abiyah!!!

Kath -> RE: Christmas, 2008 (6/13/2008 12:46:29 PM)

Abiyah

I don't believe I've heard of juneteenth before. Interesting!

I remember David McDowell used to have a thread somewhere, where he listed what was being observed on that day. There was something being observed every single day. Who knew?

stellaluna -> RE: Christmas, 2008 (6/13/2008 12:48:55 PM)

We celebrate Juneteenth here. Although I'll be out of town tomorrow and I'll miss all the festivities. [:(]

car2ner -> RE: Christmas, 2008 (6/15/2008 8:17:44 AM)

Hmm, it looked like for Father's day alot of folks had the same idea as we had... take the guy to watch Indiana Jones. When we got there, the young adults paying our way in said, "wow, we have NEVER seen the theater this full".

Looks like dinner and an action movie was the gift of choice this year. Today our church service is in Panola Mountain Park, BYOP (bring your own picnic). Photos will be posted on Flickr later [sm=dance.gif]

themoodyexperience -> RE: Christmas, 2008 (6/16/2008 4:17:57 PM)

Unless I missed it somewhere in the posts, I don't think anybody said that Saturday the fourteenth was Flag Day, so I just thought I'd give it an official mention. [sm=flagamerican.jpg]

Post 354 above.

Did pagans have flags or did they just wave flaming ducks?
[sm=sadquestion.gif]

car2ner -> RE: Christmas, 2008 (6/16/2008 9:22:02 PM)

flaming ducks? Served on rice or what? Never mind using it as a battle standard, it would just smell good and all sides would sit down and eat. That is it! Instead of war let's just invite everyone to a pot luck dinner. That is very christian. [sm=chef.gif]

For those who celebrate such things, enjoy Juneteenth! I am suprised that in Atlanta I don't hear about it more. Infact, I hardly hear about it at all. Probably because it falls during summer when school is out.

Sorry about that. I am very nearsighted and wear the world's thickest glasses. [8|]

Flaming duck sounds good. Grilled shrimp sounds better. Maybe pagans could wave some grilled shrimp. That would be kinda hard though. Sorry, in a weird mood tonight.

While it's the longest day of the year, did you know that the Summer Soltice is not the day when the sun rises earliest in the morning nor when it sets latest at night?

No I didn't. Interesting.

Did you also notice I didn't run spellcheck to catch my spelling of Solstice? This could be a long day...

Kath -> RE: Christmas, 2008 (6/20/2008 9:57:25 AM)

I read fast and fill in the blanks, so no, I didn't notice.

It's like correcting people when they say something happened yesterday when it really was the day before, it doesn't matter to the story.

cheeky_monkey -> RE: Christmas, 2008 (6/21/2008 12:15:04 AM)

Almost done my Christmas shopping for the year! Woot!
