Almost done my Christmas shopping for the year! Woot!

Oh my goodness! I haven't even started buying Halloween candy yet.

Covaan_Meshuga -> RE: Christmas, 2008 (6/21/2008 12:33:03 AM)

Anyone wanna come to my sukkah this year?

Hey! I had better add this: It's not Christmas, but we celebrate the L-rd's birth in it!

Roberta_ -> RE: Christmas, 2008 (6/21/2008 12:34:09 AM)

I wanna come!

(and I don't even know what sukkah is)

Covaan_Meshuga -> RE: Christmas, 2008 (6/21/2008 12:36:46 AM)

Come on over! We aren't building a real one, but we're faking one. I have wanted one every year, and every year (for several years!), something goes wrong, and I don't get one. This year, although it won't be a very kosher sukkah, I AM HAVING ONE, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, if I am alive!!

Roberta_ -> RE: Christmas, 2008 (6/21/2008 12:43:40 AM)

Are you gonna make me come over to find out what a sukkah is? [:D]

This isn't normal for me. I figured with the economy so bad I'd be best to get it out of the way instead of stressing later in the year. I'm thinking about wrapping soon just to get it out of the way and actually be able to enjoy the holidays this year without all of the extra stuff that gets in the way.

Covaan_Meshuga -> RE: Christmas, 2008 (6/21/2008 1:36:03 AM)

It's spelled other ways, too, but it is a temporary hut used on Sukkot, in which we celebrate the World to Come or Eternity. We invite people over to eat, study Scripture, eat, party, eat, give presents to one another, eat, and schmooze. The party goes on for eight days, and when it is over, we take down the sukkah. You should be able to see through the roof of the sukkah, because this will remind us of G-d's presence and of the World to Come. And a sukkah should be made of natural materials, especially branches with leaves on them but even better, branches with leaves and fruit! Some people spend the eight days in them, but here, it is too cold most of the time to do that. So you can come over, but ya gotta go home when we go inside our house, or the raccons will git ya!

Roberta_ -> RE: Christmas, 2008 (6/21/2008 1:39:24 AM)

That sounds really cool! I've never heard of it before!

Covaan_Meshuga -> RE: Christmas, 2008 (6/21/2008 1:46:46 AM)

[:D] Hey! I just thought of how you may have heard of it! The Feast (or Festival) of Booths!

zoebob -> RE: Christmas, 2008 (6/21/2008 9:21:41 AM)

I don't dare buy Christmas presents yet. Last year I bought them in Sept. Then before Christmas my DD2 had outgrown the clothes I bought her and I had to exchange them.

Now that the 4th of July is upon us, I wonder if that day is a day of fasting, mourning, dismay, and general gloom to folk that consider Christians serving in the military, in wars, and fighting to defend themselves & others a deplorable sin...
[&:]

At least they have the right to ignore, mourn, or curse the 4th as they see fit because there were/are/will be Christians willing to serve the military, go off to wars, and fighting to defend others.

Ironic, huh?

And I even put a link in my signature so that people could go buy stuff online for this holiday. God's gonna get me now!

Cloak, I think it's an all inclusive, pick the holiday thread. Carl just sort of started it as a joke, so it's whatever one wants it to be. We have those from time to time.

I don't know what will be worse, X-mass 2008, or the elections.
Both are on that slippery slope to _ _ _ _.

FISH?
[:D]

Covaan_Meshuga -> RE: Christmas, 2008 (6/23/2008 4:16:15 PM)

Fish? Don't talk to me about fish! Wish I had some fish instead of this salisbury "steak" with macaroni & cheese. YUCK! That's all that was in the freezer at work. Good thing I had some V8 in the 'fridge to pour it, to give it a little flavor.

Salmon with lemon pepper.
Salmon, curried.
Teriyaki salmon.
Salmon with jasmine rice.
Grilled salmon.
Rainbow trout pulled right out of the stream, cleaned, and cooked right there on a ready grill.
Fresh tuna, baked in steaks.
Fresh tuna, baked, chilled, then made into sandwiches on sour dough.
Fish bought right off the bow of the ship as the boats come in.
I don't care -- canned albacore! Anything but this!

Cloak -> RE: Christmas, 2008 (6/23/2008 5:38:58 PM)

[:D] I Love your sense of humor!!! Aby!

Covaan_Meshuga -> RE: Christmas, 2008 (6/23/2008 7:57:27 PM)

Hee-hee-hee! I was a little irritated. I could have just run up to the grocery store, but I didn't want to leave the office.

car2ner -> RE: Christmas, 2008 (6/25/2008 8:08:49 AM)

this isn't an official holiday but it seems to be the Miller Moving Week. M'love and I moved into our rental house last weekend, we are moving our sons into their apartment today and tomorrow and this weekend we are moving our daughter into her next apartment. Her sweetheart will be moving into his new apartment next month but he's not officially Miller family yet.

At my age and condition I would have to "hire" all that to be done.

I feeeeeeeeel for ya'.

Lapidoth -> RE: Christmas, 2008 (6/25/2008 1:22:20 PM)

About 6 days in the month left.
Then 4 days to the next holy-day.

July 4 ---- commemoration of the Fight for Independence.
Our brave boys and girls continue that fight for freedom.
So we can remember the Fight for Independence, and
hopefully be thankful; and celebrate and support our
troops of today, and hopefully be grateful.
May God Bless each and every one of our boys and girls
wherever they are assigned.

After that, we're on the downhill slope to that wicked X-mass. lol.

I hope to build a real sukkah this year.
And I'll be having a kosher birthday cake for Yeshua.
He's invited, but I'll probably eat it all myself.

and more gr-r-r-r-r-r-r. Don't talk to me about "real sukkot." That's a sore spot.
