He never said to stop, did he. He never said to switch to the commonly accepted traditions passed down from the pagans, through the RCC, to Protestantism. Rather, He warned about taking up human tradition.

Refresh my memory, which of the feasts can be found after Pentecost in a Gentile church setting? And why did the Church fathers fail to mention feasts to be observed when they sent the letter in Acts to Gentiles outlining what was required of them when Judaisers tried to make them observe OT practices (note, circumcism was not the only issue addressed)?

Oh! Okay. Some people really want to get away from all things Jewish, so I do understand. Since there were no Gentile church settings within the Bible, we are going on two different tracks.

Huh? There were numerous Gentile churches mentioned, addressed, admonished, and taught in the NT. The bulk of Paul's epistles were to Gentile churches.

I've always have been fascinated and interested in Jews and Judaism. But I wasn't born one and I see no reason nor any command to become one.

Well, the central focus of my Christmas is Christ. Regardless of tradition, pagan or not, I see nothing wrong with celebrating Jesus.

I just found out that my Granpa is giving me tickets to the Radio City Christmas Spectaular in Birmingham this year. Awesome. That and Mannheim Steamroller is coming to a town an hour away. I'm pretty much all set for Christmas spirit this year.

Okay. I also understand that this is what is taught by some. No problem.

Hi, Popsi! It was another long one. Went lumber shopping this morning so that I could redraw my plans. Didn't buy anything -- just looked to see what they had at Home Depot. Didn't redraw the plans yet, but I'll have time tomorrow, I think.

Did start setting up a new newsletter at work. Trying different ideas at this time. I should have started that three weeks ago.

How was your day? Are you ready for the Rainbows?

We can talk about it a little because you had the class make Christmas decorations!

She was 7 and older than all the others in the classroom. She just thought she needed to be in control. Kept asking if she could do this and that. Thinking she needed to take over. Kept saying she was older than everyone and etc. And she was acting younger than them all. And then they were at playtime and the other girls toy accidentally hit her and so she smacked the other girl twice. She was just a pain! I was so glad to get away from her.

She isn't regularly in my class, but her teacher wasn't there this week. Next week tho, next week.

Her Mom and her grandmother are both outspoken in the sanctuary too. I can see where she would get her attitude and mouth.

Frustration

Oh, Popsi, It's all right. I thought you made christmas decorations last week or something. I am so sleepy, though, that I really need to hit the sack. Thursdays are always a long day for me, and I don't want to go in tired.

Someone around here should have some ideas for you, though!

If someone says happy holidays to me i always look at them, smile, and say "Merry Christmas".
Im not offended by those who say happy holidays to me, or if you said what you say to me - what i am offended by is when people try to take Christ out of the holiday.
Sadly...im sure it will happen again this year. Thats one thing i never look forward too.

Okay, I'll admit it: "Merry Christmas" is offensive to me, but I know that many say it out of the kindness of their hearts, with intended good will. But some people are clearly Christmas Nazis. Some in my area even say merry Christmas with a look like, "I just dare you not to respond in kind." It's their holiday, and they are going to do it if they have to kill everyone else's joy in their own holidays to have it their way.

Its not their way. Christmas is now the general consensus that Jesus was born on that day. So most Christians will do everything they can to make sure that day isnt torn apart by non Christians. Its a normal act.

I do not know a single adult believer that thinks Jesus was born any time even close to December 25 - and I knew that when I was a teenager some 40 plus years ago. And only a few are naive enough to think Jesus was a limp-wristed, blue-eyed European man like the ones seen in a lot of paintings.

What do you mean, "...that is what is taught by some"? If you're talking about Gentile churches, that's what I get from reading the scriptures, not from some doctrine. The letter of the Church leaders in Acts was very specifically dealing with the Gentile churches from Paul's missionary journeys. Paul even spoke of himself as an apostle to the Gentiles.

This was just a "fast and furious"...I've haven't even covered the sex symbols of the Christmas tree, mistletoe...

I can see for mistletoe (which I never cared for anyway) but I never knew that the Christmas tree had anything to do with a sex symbol.

Next someone will tell Christian men to avoid women because some ancient religions used them as temple prostitutes and, therefore, all of them represent pagan ritualistic orgies...

Umm... don't know that i can add anything extra to the conversation because i see there are many many many pages of reading i need to do since you've been doing this particular thread since the beginning of 2008. Wow!
quote:

ORIGINAL: Covaan_Meshuga ...Yes, I am one who understands Christmas to be pagan...
I just wanted to say that I used to celebrate Christmas with all the hoopla . Then after our children were born we decided to stop the Santa Claus portion and focus on Jesus' birthday. THEN after i was born again i started studying and i found out, for the first time in my life, that December 25th is actually NOT Jesus' birthday. I was stunned.

To make a long story short I also understand Christmas to be pagan. We have not celebrated it for a few years now for the reasons i believe that a few others here have stated and also because my husband is happy he doesn't have to put up decorations anymore. (BTW-i hope noone will ever feel i am judging their own personal walk with our LORD.)

You are fine. I like bouncing ideas around and you seem to do well without fussing at anyone for disagreeing.

You missed the fun last year with everyone debating the lights on the tree being pagan. I always find it interesting that people keep bringing up the old meanings for the traditions and yet say very little over the bigger present issue (pun intended) commercialism, materialism and greed. I am much more concerned with the this year's "gimmies" than what long dead druids did.
