I like toe socks. Not on me, but they make me smile widely when I see them on someone else. Anyone who wears toe socks has got to have a great sense of humor!

I have Christmas toe socks. I'd always wanted some toe socks, and then two Christmases ago I did an impulse buy and bought some for myself. I found them a little less comfortable than I expected, but I still wear them, because I like them!

Ah, the scent of my Sabbath candles, just gone out. I am in another room, but they give off enough fragrance with their final attempt to continue the glow that I can tell from here that the flames are now out.

We had a lovely Erev Shabbat. It was just the two of us this time, so we used the special dishes I reserve for "just the two of us" Sabbaths. Kind of whimsical that they are zebra-print dishes, really, but I only bought two of everything, so that they would be for those solitary Sabbaths.

So I ran home from work, threw a roast beast in the oven, and went to bed. Stressed from a difficult work-day, I didn't want to come to the Sabbath table tired. My husband came home with fried chicken and a couple hot dishes, while I prepared a hot dish and a salad.

The dining table was set with all the zebra dishes, the siddurs were at our places, the bowl of warm water for cleansing our hands, the challah, and the sparkling grape juice (neither of us can stand wine) were on the table. To the strains of classical music, we relaxed at the table and read the Prayers, blessing each other, blessing our absent children and grandchildren.

The challah was wonderful, made by a teenage girl at my place of worship, the daughter of one of the leaders there. Made for just two, they are tiny plump braided loaves that are just perfect -- leaving me some to take in the morning for afternoon oneg with the rest of the people where I worship.

So after our dinner, I carried the candles on their plate from the dining room to the livingroom, where they sat on the hearth. It was nice. All was peace as I watched the little flames making shadows dance until I fell asleep.

CRASH! I woke suddenly! In the night, I had knocked my books from a shelf. In the startled excitement, I nearly upset a lamp and some other items. So here I sit at the computer, trying to bring myself back down to that level at which I can get back to sleep.

I like you, too, Abiyah! Hope you sleep better tonight with no crashes in the night to wake you up.

, Annie!

It has been a great day. Great teaching, great time with friends, coming home to get some plastic for the ceiling of the sukkah they will build at my synagogue next Friday, going back with my husband, enjoying the community havdalah, then sitting and chatting with others about when we were saved -- my husband and I both at age 14, they both at age 6. What heartaches are avoided when people give their hearts to the L-rd at an early age. Fabulous.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading about your Erev Shabbat. Even though it was just for two - your description made it include us - such a blessing. Thank you.

Store bought moon pies are pretend moon pies. The best are home made with deep rich chocolate cakes and fresh whipped cream.

Gonna have to rethink the Christmas tree this year. We'll have extra people in our little house and there is no place to put up a tree that won't get in the way. I don't have an outlet outside or I'd actually put one right outside the front door. I don't even have a good way to string lights on the windows, since I don't want to run an extension cord from inside to outside. Gotta think about this awhile.

I looked down a street as I passed it last night, and there was a house two properties from the corner that was already all lit up like the most lit up christmas tree ever, with lights on everything that would not move. Craziest thing I ever saw -- and this early, with all that waste! I wonder if they can keep that spending up until christmas and how long afterward the neighbors will have to put up with that glaring in their own night windows. Hey, that house put Tim the Toolman Taylor to absolute shame!

I have no objection to people decorating, but I often wonder if their souls are as lit up for Jesus as their front yards are for the neighborhood?

Key point. Whether we celebrate or not, are we lit up?

Added:
And I didn't mean the liquid illumination. lol.

Garage sales are evil unless you live near me and are selling something that I think I want or think I need.

75% of the people I know have an intense dislike of the song and/or movie The Christmas Shoes. I just saw the movie last night and it was quite bad, but I still like the song. What about ya'll?

I liked it the first couple of times I heard it. I don't like Christmas music starts as early as it does on some radio stations. By the end of Christmas week I just want to yell, "make it stop!" Such a shame because there is some very good music out there, it is just over played. Put Christmas Shoes in that category.

Either I have never heard of it, or it's not in my memory bank. lol.

It is blasphemous that if one is going to do X-mass stuff, to do it
before Thanksgiving. And before Holloween? Even worse.

Might as well be X-mass in July.

Oops, I started this thread last January...........LOL.
