Isn't there a city in New York or Michigan named Flushing?

Re my husband wearing a baseball cap, he doesn't. But lately, he cut off his mustache, and he looks like Abraham Lincoln! I was so tempted to buy a stovepipe hat for his director to make him wear for practice last night!

I'm one of those vets who also does not wear ball caps.
If I wear a hat at all, it's one that will give me protection
from the scorching sun when I work outside.

And my hair has never ever been over my ears.
Not always white-walls, but never over my ears. lol.

I always ask for a "regulation hair-cut." I finally found
and ex-GI barber who knows what I'm talking about. lol.

If hubby has the Lincoln beard, I can see where he should have
a Lincoln hat. LOL.

Just 34 days to Zeus' birthday.

Attend Hanakkuh and hear the rest of the story.

Zeus has a birthday? Well, will wonders never cease. I wasn't invited to his party so I guess that demi-god can party on without me.

In honor of Toilet day I'll ...ah...hmmm... not sure how one participates in such a day.

If one celebrates the "principles" of X-mas, it should be every day.

In turn, I celebrate toilet day, hmmmmmmmmmm, every day.

I don't know whether I fall in that category. I would not wipe out Christmas. I just question it's significance.

Question the significance of the celebration of the birth of our Lord? or question the means in which we celebrate His birth?

I do not consider Christmas to be in any way related to the birth of the Messiah. I believe it is at best an arbitrarily chosen day, that adds little or nothing to our understanding of the Messiah.

I know that December 25 is not Jesus' birthday. Shepherds would not have been out in the fields then. And I know that the day was chosen because that was the day of pagan celebrations. The reason I do not have a problem with the celebration of Christmas is because of a passage of Scripture that is not in the least usually associated with Christmas, 1 John 4:1-3, "Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world."

I know that some would say that Christ is left out of Christmas and it is mostly a secular holiday, and there is a lot of truth to that. I get so annoyed at the cheesy Santa Claus songs that pervade the airwaves! But in my experience, it is what you make of it, and to me the whole reason to celebrate Christmas is because Jesus Christ came in the flesh. There is no other reason to "deck the halls with boughs of holly," no other reason to go out and buy gifts for my loved ones. If I'm not doing it for that reason, it becomes an empty celebration--a lot of hoopla over nothing.

I love Christmas, and it does have meaning of the Christ-Child to me, even as a little girl.

Another, less serious thought about Christmas: I hate cold! I'd like to rewrite the song "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas" to something that really more reflects what I prefer: "I'm Dreaming of a Warm Christmas!" At least we get to go to Florida to spend Christmas with my MIL and FIL this year!

Speaking of Christmas, I went and saw Denver & The Mile High Orchestra last night. They are a big band/jazz band that puts on one awesome Christmas show! 'Frosty The Bluesman' was awesome!

Alas

i tried a poll on peoples thinking here but....it was closed..

Is it important to celebrate Christmas

For christians?

i used to be a traditional celebrant of christmas without asking questions as to why we do it.
The birth date is not found in scriptures. Neither is there a command to celebrate the occasion.
This is neither found in the feasts of the Lord or in the new testament.

Instead, God has commanded believers to celebrate His death instead! This is found both
in the old T

Lev 23
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts. 3 Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.

4 These are the feasts of the LORD, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons. 5 In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the LORD'S passover.

AND again in the New T

26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; 28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. 29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.

i have found it unnecessary to celebrate it due to the following reasons:

a)Appears to be very worldly- the world loves it as much as the believers! Makes me wonder it its of the Lord. My non believing friends have no problem celebrating Christmas with me but if you invited them for the Passover.....

b) Its not found in scriptures

c) This is the most important one: As i read more of the scriptures, i found that all the more The Lords purpose is fulfilled in His death and Resurrection. It has nothing to do with His birth. Humans celebrate births and mourn deaths.
However, God is paradoxical in regards to our human paradigm, celebrates His death! What a wonder!
Its through His death on the cross that His purpose is fulfiled.

quote:

IT IS FINISHED

The great focus and emphasis on Christmas has hidden the real purpose and meaning of Gods of deliverance to mankind through His death and not His birth!

Shalom

No one claims it is the ACTUAL birth date.

It doesn't make it wrong to have a day set aside to celebrate the immaculate birth of our Savior.
